The training in Rocky IV appears to have been inspired by a wrestler!
Ivan Yarygin, the legendary Russian 100 kg 2x olympic gold medalist.
I once met him while he was coaching the Russian national team, he traded me for a cheap pin I had...I got a very nice medallion he had from the reknown Tiblisi tournament.
Here is a Russian documentary film....see any resemblances to Rocky's training here?
Chris I still have my Ultra Flex in my closet...taped up, eyelets broken here and there, one tongue is no longer attached. If I put them on they would likely explode into dust! I think the Super Flex was a more durable shoe, but not nearly as flashy as my red Ultras with silver stripes! lol
It would be great to see him and Nethercutt in the finals, as they are great friends and have wrestled many many times in the past. As for the Corps, this is all small beans compared to that! But it is preparing him well!
Keep an eye on my boy Devildog...Daniel Campbell 189 from Laf Harrison at the Logan regional...he may be headed to the USMC so he could be one of your favorites! lol
I couldn't agree more! Freestyle and Greco are being phased out by folkstyle in the off season. Folkstyle is too slow and monotonous for kids to stay psyched up for year round. Maybe we should take a step back in time when wrestling off season was fun!
I'm going to give some recognition to the best referee name!!! We all know him! LOL
Frankie Medvescek!!!
After 20 something odd years I still have to look his name up to spell it.
Never easy to go through such tragedy....As you know Daniel missed the last half of his junior year last year due to Mono. He is very very healthy now and has been doing amazingly well!!! Just remember he will be more hungry next year. The most important thing is to get healthy! I was really looking forward to another match between the boys...this time at Conseco!!! Good luck, and you know we are giving our support to you all.
Top 5 is always easy! The next 15 are the tough ones! I hope WL Harrison can crack the list later on....we'll have to prove ourselves first! Good work!
My son loves wrestling....he wrestles the spring and summer tournaments every year...he loves to do national tournaments and to be a part of Team Indiana. However, when football season starts you can't even get him to talk about wrestling. He is focused on football from day one to the end. That's when he flips the switch back to wrestling. Soon enough that will change, as after this season he will likely focus solely on football for college. I think the kids that prefer wrestling and want to pursue it after high school will tend to gravitate toward year round wrestling. Other kids love sports in general and will prefer to mix it up.
