They can go to Local Freestyle tournaments. National Duals should be the best of the best.
I'm curious to know who on one of the Indiana teams you think was undeserving?
-
Doesn't it depend on the "goal" of the tournament? I honestly don't know what this event is geared toward, but it would seem that with the dual meet setting attempting to find the best team (in this case state) would be the goal. If that is the case we are hurting our (Indiana's) chances of winning the event by dividing up our talent. I agree that the goal is that kids should have fun, but isn't winning an aspect of the sport too? Also the prestige of the event makes a difference. Its not like this is the Churubusco Open, it seems like a pretty big event. It really comes down to if we care if we win or not.
Winning is great. I think the ultimate goal is to get as many kids wrestling in the off season as possible. If that takes not winning the dual but getting a lot more kids mat time, I'm okay with that.

Are people that bent out of shape? The Gorillas weren't even the best team from Indiana. Could the Gold team have been better with a few other guys....sure? But who cares. Give as many kids as possible a chance to wrestle. If they want to wrestle with their friends, let them. Isn't this sport supposed to be fun?

Everyone has a different agenda.

I would say that a wrestler like Jordan Burroughs who continues to win championships both internationally and domestically is clearly our best guy right now. Two of the greatest wrestlers in NCAA history went up a weight to stay away from him. My opinion, is he should have been named to the team. I'm not saying we should name an athlete for every weight just an individual like this who is clearly above the rest of the competition and has proven himself on the world level by winning championships.
At the 1992 Trials John Smith came dangerously close to losing to John Fisher in the final wrestle off. Smith had been battling a staph infection and Fisher was good and came close to beating him. Fisher was an excellent wrestler and an even better guy, but would not have won a gold medal in Barcelona as we all know Smith did.
I disagree. How would we know someone like Alex Dieringer wasn't ready? What if he showed up and blitzed Burroughs twice? Obviously that didn't happen, but he deserved an opportunity.
So based on this criteria of people getting elected, J'Den Cox doesn't make the team because he wouldn't have enough points? This all seems so silly.

Let's have a vote after semi-state next year to crown our individual state champs. That should be enough data to properly elect the best guy.

Amazing run by Molinaro. Seemed to catch lightning in a bottle. However, my confidence level isn't super high for him to qualify this weight.
On another note, why would any top wrestler go anywhere but Penn St? They are dominating everyone in college and now potentially in international styles. Will be interested to see how Taylor, Megeludis, Ruth, etc do today

Said every fan before every match these two have ever wrestled.
Have they wrestled at 86kg yet? Seems like Taylor has the frame to add that weight compared to Dake. Does one or both drop back down after Rio if Burroughs hangs it up?

New Pal job is open. Does that mean Red Sr is following him to Nebraska?

Smooth, I am assuming you have read the entire thread. If so, you would see how this has escalated to basically me saying stop complaining and actually DO something about it. I take personally anyone who hides behind a screen name and tries to destroy the credibility of another man, regardless who that man is. I don't owe Goldman or SIMMONS or Pascoe a thing. People think I am vested in the program? I am not. My son has a business relationship with IU. That is it. I do however have more respect for those who want to do rather than those that want to not do. Thus the reason I posted what you quoted. I wonder what response you would get if you actually did email the coaches and voiced your concern? It may lead to a tangible conversation as to where you made a difference in the program. An idea that perhaps Goldman, in his 25+ years of coaching never thought of. But to sit behind a keyboard and slash people who will never get on a forum such as this and defend themselves, I take exception to. That is it.
I guess we will have to agree to disagree because I have never called anyone out by name. I haven't used any negative words toward a specific person. As a consumer, I don't have to "take action". If they want to pay me $125,000, then it can become my responsibility.
Salary found here since he's a public employee: http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/2015/03/11/indiana-university-purdue-ball-state-iupui-ipfw-indiana-state-ncaa-finances-tom-crean/24662029/
It seems like you are okay with IU being the 11-12th best program in the Big 10. So this banter is useless.

Chad Red (2016) 132lbs vs Angel Escobedo (2005) 135lbs.
Just curious.

C) Have you offered your services as a volunteer to the program? Event coordinator, recruiting assistant, speciality coach, fundraising lead? If so, how did that go?
So if I shoot the coaching staff an email, they will respond with ways I can help the program?
-
Just curious smooth, who did you talk to and what was the outcome? Did they tell you they just wanted to hang around the lower middle of the pack?
Words are meaningless. Actions speak louder than words.
-
A) Have you talked to the administration about your displeasure on the success of the program? When and what was the outcome?
Absolutely. As a consumer, I don't use any hard earned money on that product. The next time I spend money in Bloomington will be next year at the Big 10s so I can see all of the other elite programs conference.

It actually does specify. And this poll was not designed to see how many people favor class wrestling. It was designed to see how much impact the argument in favor of class wrestling is having. The poll results indicate it is having the impact that I would like for it to have.
So basically, I ask myself, "Is it worth it to keep spending time on here laying down logic and statistics?"
The answer is yes. And the proof is in this poll.
Statisticians agree. This sample size is big enough to draw conclusions.

Finish at Big 10s since 2000
2000 10/112001 8/112002 10/112003 10/112004 9/112005 5/112006 10/112007 5/112008 8/112009 9/112010 8/112011 10/112012 10/112013 11/122014 10/122015 12/14So IU was about the 10th best team in the Big 10 before expansion. Now in the 11-12 range? -
Agreed. Fantastic job. Intros are one of my favorite parts of the weekend.

Yeah, kids should just sit on the couch and play video games all off season since long distance running won't help at all with wrestling.
Thanks for putting words in my mouth. Apparently, I said to play football, play video games, or do nothing and show up to the first practice of the season out of shape.
Go do some research on long distance running and wrestling. Will it help lose some weight? Sure. Does it help you become a better wrestler. Absolutely not.
It helps more than flippant remarks that offer no contribution to a topic of discussion.
Next time I'll check with you before posting. I didn't realize everyone was so sensitive.
-
Long distance running and wrestling have nothing to do with each other
-
This is like politics. People only get more entrenched in their own opinions. Very few people change or are swayed by the other side

Wasn't Baker a 4 time Al Smith champion as well?
Yep, first person to ever do it. Has anyone else done it other than Hughes this year?
