  2. where is meet at and what time ? and its on Thursday ? usually dac wrestles on wed.

I will not get into the other things mentioned in the post, but this dual will be at Chesterton in the gym at 6:30 CST.  They switched the meet from Wednesday to have the ability to use the main gym for the whole DJ thing.

  3. You are correct, UncleJimmy, people can certainly hold back the results.  I was just saying with how easy TW has made reporting results it is crazy to think that people will hold the results.  I know for a fact that there are national ranking people who look at the results that are posted here.  That may be a little of the reason why "we" (Portage) are ranked #41 in the nation.  Though, I think they may have missed our 19 point win last year over this year's #11 team, but nevertheless you will never see me not post our results.

  4. Are Wednesday's not known as "wrestling's day"?  I know in our area, that is the sport that has events every Wednesday and rarely does the DAC schedule basketball games on Wednesday's because it is known as such.  We also are odd and have 6 Wednesday duals during our season so maybe I am out of touch with the rest of the state, imagine that being a Chicago sports fan.

  5. To clarify:  We are not using the Track OPC system.  Last year there were complaints that there were too many teams that were created incorrectly and it was a pain for TW to have to update everyone's team info. So this year they decided with the urging of the IHSAA to lock the teams list so that duplicates did not occur causing more work for all of us when we have duplicate results because of teams being different.

  6. Funny, I was just talking about this earlier tonight about how much I despised the first available mat tournaments. Very confusing especially with multiple gyms. I can remember sprinting to another gym to barely beat the last call and also waiting on the opponent for the same reason. On one instance my sons match was somewhere in the 500s and the tournament was currently in the 300s so we thought that we were safe to leave and get some lunch but as soon as we hit the door to leave the powers that be decided to jump up to the 500s in the other gym and was calling for him to the mat. If we had of left 10 seconds earlier we would have missed out. I know that these are two diffrent issues but for the wrestler, mom and dad, aunts and unckes, grandma and grandpa the first available thing is not good. IHPO 2013

Now this is even more interesting to me.  So Assign to Mat (same mat, all day) is really funny for National Tournament (or even state tournaments) especially with running it in two different gyms to me.  For an event that only streams so many mats, or whatever, who decides who is more important.  I guarantee the guys (and girl) at Track (funny joke to some) do not appreciate when events run events where they only show 80% of the mats streamed and archived and they are operating Assign to Mat.  I have a very good relationship with some of the people at Track and stream events for them all the time, and they ALWAYS urge people to stream all mats at the tournament, ESPECIALLY when they are using Assign to Mat.

When you tell me that Assign to Mat is a good thing, I can agree to a certain point.  That point is obviously what everyone has talked about here and in other postings of injuries because of repetitive matches.  Obviously for coaches, mom, dad, and the wrestlers it is good because they know their mat and are able to set up to watch all day.

Now speaking from an efficiency side of things, same mat all day takes on average 114.7% of the time to run a tournament as first available.  This is based on a study that I completed while running/maintaining/assisting 37 tournaments multiple years in a row through TW where I looked at one event that ran one way for one year and another for the next, it also factored majorly the amount of athletes and the amount of matches.  (I may have certain privileges that allow me to do these types of things within the Track system).  Yes, it is better for mom, dad, grandma and grandpa, but not best for the athletes, the coaches, and the event staff for the event as the amount of back to back matches greatly increase this way.

Now to tell you, I despise as a coach, a past college wrestler, and an event manager now Assign to Mat tournaments.  They are the most inefficient tournaments to run, unless they are small.  A state tournament to run on a Assign to Mat way makes ZERO sense to me.  If you want adequate rest for athletes (yes I am aware that it was 15 minutes in my day too and did wrestle quicker than that on occasion), then you have the technology to do it.  Track has made running a wrestling tournament easy.  An event host can change the amount of bouts they want to assign (and it makes sense in a place where it is 2 gyms to make it 6 or 7 deep) based on their preference.  That number can be changed at any time as well.  They have the ability to set up rounds so that you ensure adequate rest between matches (these types of changes can ensure that you do not get "dead mats").

I do not understand the obsession with Assign to Mat.  If you have a mobile device (tablet, cell phone, PDA, iPod) and are able to connect to some sort of connection, you can go to www.trackwrestling.com/mobile.  That site will give you everything that you need to be in the right place at the right time for everything that you need.  With that website Track has made everything that a viewer would need to see, available for them.  There is no reason for projectors (though I always use them) because people today have the information at their fingertips.

Now to go for the IHPO 2013 thing.  I am the person who ran it that year, and I did no such thing to jump from the 300's to 500's.  So I have not a clue as to what you are talking about.  I do know that the Middle School ended quickly that year so we opened both gyms up to wrestling, but I know nothing about it skipping well over 100 bouts.  Maybe I am delirious, but that did not happen to the best of my knowledge.

And someone I am sure will say that I am not for the promotion of wrestling based on this because I do not care about the fans, but if you only knew me you would know that was false.  I run wrestling tournaments for dang near nothing, I help stream for nothing.  This sport has given me more than I could ever give it, and I will forever long to equal that.  But at some point, we have to do this for the kids, and not the fans.  If the kids stay healthy, we keep them around longer.  If we lose a few fans because they do not like having to more from one gym to another, then we can always look into streaming events.  People are always willing to pay for their kids (and grandkids) to see them compete.

  7. Isn't there a rule that says that a 1-seed (from a qualifier) cannot get an At-Large bid? I know this was something that was talked about and I believe passed a few years ago. Maybe there is an injury provision, and maybe it didn't get passed.

2.)  Track Gold is not a streaming package.  TrackCast is a Pay-Per-View package set by prices by the event management.  So unfortunately you have to pay for those.  They have been talking about creating a subscription to add onto the Gold Membership for the streaming package.

    3.) 1 year (365 days) is a Season.
  9. Our DAC bylaws state that only a dual that is wrestled first round of the tournament will be counted as a conference dual.  That is why we lost.  You will never hear an ounce of regret from the coaching staff or our kids, our job and goal is not to win DAC titles, it is to win State and National titles.  That is just what we signed up for.  And maybe that is arrogant, but that is us.
