  1. I've been wondering the same thing since Alec won his title last night.......there were a lot of naysayers on the board after his SS performance. 4-time SQ 3-time placer and a state title now on the resume. Hardly anyone was giving him a shot on Friday night of advancing. It definitely was one of the best "runs" this weekend. Pretty good run to the top thru Cummings, Lee, Rooks, and Mulkey. Congrats again Alec White on a terrific senior season and HS wrestling career.
  2. Woohoo.........I knew Alec could do it... Way to go Alex and Alec!
  3. Wrestling is just something special! I know as parents we all have watched, cheered, and been supportive of our kids over the years as they competed in many wrestling matches. State weekend will always be something special to me as both my sons had the opportunity to qualify and place in the state championships. I have been one of the lucky parents that have gotten the opportunity to watch my son as he competed in high school and in college. The sport of wrestling has extended many opportunities for him in his life. His accomplishments on the mat and in the classroom have made me proud. Unable to attend this evening.......I just made the call to him........ to give him some typical Dad advice and best wishes. I don't know if I'm more nervous for him as a first year head coach on Friday night or his previous three Friday night matches in HS. (3-0 on Friday nights.... ) First year head coach - first year in the chair. Best of Luck Coach Alex Johns and New Pal Alec White!
  4. Good preview Y2CJ41, but you did forgot to mention the new bathroom remodels in the gym.
  5. Congrats to Brandon Wright on his 141 Nat'l NAIA Championship and to Justin Brooks on his 133 Nat'l NAIA runner-up finish. Quite an accomplishment! Interesting thought came to my mind as Alex ends his college career this next week in Cleveland. How really good was the 08 & 09 112# & 119# wt class? Could be the best in the last 5 years? It's hard to have that much success stacked into a weight class for two years and then have it be the same guys! Brandon Wright, Justin Brooks, Camden Eppert (2X NCAA qualifier for Purdue), Alex Johns (3X NCAA qualifier, 5th in 2013 for U of Indy). All 4 of these guys were in the top 5 at State in 09!!!! They were top 4 in 08 also at 112!!!!!! Add an underclassman at the time, Justin Kieffer (2X NCAA qualifier for U of Indy) who finished 7th in 08 and 09 !!!!! WOW !!!!!! Pretty impressive college resumes for a great group of HS wrestlers.
  6. Great post hook and half. I have to agree that there isn't an atmosphere anything like this anywhere in the state. This history represents the respect that is shown by the majority of the fans. I only hope that the respect and history continues for many years to come. I never wrestled in one of these duals, but it leaves me my own perspective from my son. He has always said that the feeling he had when wrestled in his 4 years of these duals was something he will remember for ever. The atmosphere was always incredible. He even said it was more exciting to wrestle away at MD than at home at Reitz....... 8)
  7. U of Indy Greyhounds had a great weekend on the mats last weekend. Congrats to all the grapplin' hound coaches on an outstanding 2nd place finish. Congrats also to all the placers and teammates supporting the Hounds. Great job also again to my son AJ on his championship and MOW!! 8) 8) http://athletics.uindy.edu/news/2013/12/15/WREST_1215132012.aspx?path=wrest
  8. Congrats Alex Johns 2009 Evansville Reitz graduate RS JR 125 lb 5th place 8) 8) and Cameryn Brady 2010 Lowell graduate JR 149 lb 7th place 8) 8). Here's U of Indy link http://athletics.uindy.edu/news/2013/3/9/WREST_0309134723.aspx?path=wrest
  9. Best of Luck to the U of Indy wrestlers this Friday and Sat in Birmingham, AL at the DII Winter Festival which includes the Wrestling National Championships. Alex Johns 125, Justin Kieffer 141, Cam Brady 149, and Evan Wooding Hwt. Alex and Cam are nationally ranked and Alex is ranked #1 ranked 125 lber in the country!
  10. I have heard the same Jon. ESPN 106.7 radio discussion about a week or so ago was talking about moving any big SIAC/City basketball games there in the future. It's just a shame, Roberts Stadium venue was great. I really would like to know the gate count. There is no doubt that the EVSC loses money on the semi-state if they are paying a set rental fee. I'm guessing they are since IHSAA sets all the ticket prices and determines how much is split.
  11. Can the alternate wrestle if someone misses weight? When does the 5th place alternate have to be ready to be that alternate? Do they wait for a call from an injured or unable to compete wrestler's coach? Can someone explain? Thanks
  12. My saying always to: "You Win with Class.......You Lose with Class" , You show your opponent respect when you win and you respect your opponent and take defeat with class.
  13. All I can say is WOW :o I've read this thread thru twice and I am still confused. C'mon people!!!!! How about we just say peace and say the boys that wrestled as a "team" got 4th. With a 138 wrestling last weekend we probably could of gotten some extra points to make it closer. Win or lose I'm proud of my son, (3rd place) even if he doesn't meet pantherfan78 expectations or contributions to our team's "legacy" : :
  14. Great job Hounds this past weekend. Keep up the hard work!!!!! http://athletics.uindy.edu/news/2013/1/5/WREST_0105135107.aspx?path=wrest
  15. Finals Live in a few minutes.....Southern IN boy in finals @ 125 8) 8) Stream Live
  16. Great video........Congrats to Camden on all his acomplishments........it's still tough to watch as the father of 2008 & 2009 3rd place finisher Alex Johns. Beating Wright during the season both years and then losing two unbelievable close semi-final matches at the state finals. 119 weight class of 2009 still was one of the greatest classes of all-time.
  17. Whaty type of drug testing is done at the NAIA level????
  18. I may be a little bias but, one addition to the list would be Alex Johns Reitz grad 2009. At the time of graduating he was 8th all-time in the state in career wins. 197-16. Three-time state placer ( 6th, 3rd,3rd) Two of his losses at state were in the semis to two-time state champ Brandon Wright. Three-time Semi-State finalist and a two time champ. Three-time regional, sectional, and SIAC champ. NCAA DII Nat'l qualifier his freshman year, redshirting this season and has two more years of elgibility. 8)
  19. I was shocked as well.....disrespectful to the 106 winner was probably more what I was thinking also. The first thing I said to my wife when he came out was " that was wrong" He should of never came out to grab the ankle bands before the official had finished raising the winner's hand. Even if he has done it before why would it be considered right? Next year their needs to be an official to make sure it doesn't happen again. It always amazes me how often the "punk" word is used as a description for Jared. Whenever my son wrestled him he always seems to be very polite young man and a very exciting wrestler to watch. Not exactly what I would call "punk" That would be disrespectful!
  20. Using that 5 times doesn't give me the rights....ha ha ...... you'll hear from attorney! LOL
  21. Best Friday night match is easy..........as I've said 5 times now for my two boys. It's their match that is the best Friday night match for me to watch. 8)
