  1. the results on Broadcastsport.net say that West won
  2. How about Hector Mendez winning state after placing 5th or 6th at the Al Smith Invite? The crazy thing is that that tournament is tougher today than it was back then!
  3. I'm looking forward to some FW kids each pulling off 4 upsets on the way to State Championships!
  4. There are a few kids who can make history by becoming their school's first State Champ.
  5. You completely underestimate Lovejoy. His weak schedule will hurt, but you have to consider that he's already a 2-time placer. This weight class is loaded with guys that were 112 last year. Lovejoy was a placer at 125. Unless he hasn't improved at all from last year, he has just as strong of a chance of walking out Saturday night as the Champ, as any of the 5-6 guys that you think are better than him.
  6. You need to re-read what he posted. He said that Faurote was 1-2 against Heistand, which means one win and two losses. That would be one WIN at Team Regional, with a regular season LOSS and IND Regional LOSS.
  7. I guess I had better make that eye doctor appointment, then, because he sure looked small compared to LaFlower under the lights, as well as compared to the Merrillville kid(Nelson?)
  8. McDaddy, Re-read what I said. I told Duck and Run that he is crazy for thinking McCray is definitely better than anyone your son has wrestled, considering that Sean has wrestled the #1 kid in IL and Willis.
  9. WOW! No respect for a kid who placed 3rd at State last year? 135 was a loaded class in the NE part of the State this season. Norton is the real deal!
  10. Galka was hurt most by growing so much from Freshman to Sophomore year. He went from a smaller looking 103 pounder, to a guy who couldn't make 112 anymore the next year. People just fail to realize how big of a jump it is to go from 103 to 119! 103 to 112 is a plenty big jump for most kids to handle.
  11. I think he said that he finally concluded that his posting was a distraction to his son, and that he was giving up posting on here.
  12. Some of this is accurate, but you need to rethink that McCray is definitely better than anyone McMurray has wrestled. He wrestled the #1 kid from IL this season. He has also wrestled Willis, whom he beat 1-0.
  13. That's pretty bad strategy. The only way I can see cutting in that situation is if you are a bad enough rider that your coach is concerned that you'll get reversed to your back.
  14. I agree with base, too. It would be a disaster. The one thing that I could see that would be possible to implement along these lines would be if you awarded a point for riding a wrestler out for a full period.
  15. I see a lot of crazy talk on this thread. There is no way McMurray majors or TFs McCray.
  16. It comes down to how good you are from each position. If you are weakest on top, you probably should cut your opponent toward the end of the match with a good lead. If your strength is mat wrestling, no way do you cut your opponent in that situation.
  17. Good advice, Kevin! You have to find the proper balance between getting enough wrestling in, without getting too much wrestling in. Many wrestlers will burn out if you push them too much, year round, for too many years. Good luck!
  18. This is correct. I believe the score was either 3-2 or 4-3.
  19. Based on their match, I guess I wasn't crazy for calling for bonus points for Escobedo.
  20. Pound for pound, Tsirtsis is as good as anyone in our state, but saying he could win the title at 145 or 152, and give the 160 a run for his money is crazy talk! He could probably win the title at 135, and have an outside shot at doing so at 140, but I would imagine that is where it ends. At some point, a guy, no matter how skilled he is, is too small to deal with kids who are slightly less skilled, but have considerably more size and strength. Otherwise, weight classes would be pointless to have.
  21. I am confident that no one in their right mind will want to come on here and dispute that Merrillville is the strongest of the 4 SS. I also know that most consider FW, based on recent results to be the weakest. Have any of you looked through the brackets in recent years and noticed that FW is paired against Merrillville at more weight classes than against each of the other two, most years? This year, the FW wrestlers are matched against the Merrillville wrestlers in 6 of the 14 weight classes. Am I the only person who thinks this might have something to do with FW having less semifinalists and placers than NC and Evansville?
  22. You have to take one thing in to account. The rankings are supposed to be the top 16 or top 20 wrestlers in the state, regardless of what SS they come from. You might have 10 of the top 20 guys coming through the same SS, and only 4 can get through.
  23. Thanks for the info BABAMF! That's impressive!
