  1. Let's hear some of the most "interesting" things you have heard a coach say to a wrestler or official during a wrestling match. Sometimes emotions take over and coaches let loose with some pretty entertaining stuff. Please no names or schools.
  2. How do I go about getting the form? I would like to nominate one of my wrestlers, but have not received my IHSWCA card back or any info yet. Thanks, formerwrestler
  3. Only have 7 teams in the conference, so there is an automatic FF in each wt. class, but overall I think numbers are down across the board too.
  4. I was hoping the freshman from Iowa won, actually. Also didn't care for the attitude of the doughboy, but he won. Would like to see a technical, speedy, strong middleweight take him down too.
  5. I'm guessing jchas was a a lighter weight wrestler in school. Just trying to justify his contention that he was a "real" wrestler. Everyone has preferences, his is just watching lighter guys wrestle. I prefer to watch the big guys! Does note make one right or the other one wrong. It's just a preference. Good luck to all for the rest of the season.
  6. The one major skill set I enjoy watching is the "POWER" and agility some of the big guys posess. While I do enjoy watching the quickness and technique of the lighter weight wrestlers, I really enjoy watching the athleticism of some of the heavier weight wrestlers. There is no doubt that the styles of wrestling differ from the smaller guys to the bigger guys. Some on here seem to have their own idea of what skills define "A wrestler." I, on the other hand, can appreciate the differences all different weight kids bring to the match. Now I certainly don't enjoy watching the big heavywieghts stall through a match either, but ultimately the successful ones develop a strategy that suits their abilities and I can appreciate that part of the sport. I certainly don't want to see someone miss an opportunity to wrestle, and would have preferred the NFHS simply add another upper weight class. I'm at a small 2A school and we FF 106, and 160 and have to bump to get the 126lb and 195lbs classes covered. Just wanted to throw my $.02 in the discussion.
  7. So if the hands must be on the shoulders in par terre, there will be no more reverse body lifts, I guess? I like the "chest to chest" change. should make it a little more interesting. Will be eager to see how the new rules are applied.
  8. Sometimes coaching decisions are not always so easily understood. I'd bet there was a reason for the decision to FF to your son. It probably had more to do with the coach's own kid, than your son. Could be age and inexperience, could be previous injury, could be strategy thinking he gets 6 with a pin and gives your son's team 6 with a FF, etc. You may never know the reason. I am however impressed with your son's level of maturity asking you to not keep it going on the message board. Best of luck to him this season. I'm sure he will get many more matches.
  9. Saw Pike HS at Benton Central on 12/19...Spence said they had 64, but were down to 54 on 12/19! That's a lot of bodies.
  10. From a coaching standpoint. I prefer the dual match format vs individual tourneys. I get to see ALL my wrestlers matches and they all get to wrestle the entire day, whereas the individual tourneys, I may have two or three wrestlers on the mat at the same time, and I just can't get to all of them. We are a small team with young wrestlers who typically won't make it to the finals round, so I prefer the dual match format for our team.
  11. Unfortunately, we don't have anything like the Afton Quadrangular in Indiana. He was a three time champ! Would love to see this show. formerwrestler
  12. I saw that and hoped that the school trainers would be doing this. As a coach I was never allowed to test, or even see the data on the NFHS site. The only ones in our school who had access were the AD and trainer. I just assumed it would be the same with the new format too.
  13. Anyone else noticed that the IHSAA has not updated the coaches forms on the IHSAA website yet? Still shows 2010-2011 season and does not even have the new weight classes listed on the team weigh-in form. Anyone else surprised by this?
  14. Tipton High School has two wrestlers that are also pretty good football players: Sophomore, Nate Hein (6'1" 190lbs.) Sect. Champ @ 171 last year is an outside linebacker and running back, while Senior, Cole Warner (6'1", 244lbs.) former sect champ & SS qualifier plays center and defensive tackle as well as the punter. Sure looks funny to see #54 with neck roll & knee braces punting. HA! Go Blue Devils.
  15. How did the other Indiana kids do? I know there were some others there too. formerwrestler
  16. Just a quick note to thank everyone for participating in our tourney. We ended up with 280 wrestlers, and had a good day of wrestling. We started wrestling at 10:25AM and people started going to awards @1:30PM, and everyone was gone and the gym cleaned up by 4pm. We hope everyone had a good experience for their beginning wrestlers. Best of luck to all for the balance of the 2011 season. formerwrestler
  17. Registrations for our tourney are now closed. Looking forward to another successful day. formerwrestler
  18. Still have some spots available for this tourney, so we have extended the date to submit requests beyond Feb. 26. formerwrestler
  19. Please remember, beginners tournaments are for BEGINNERS. If your wrestler is winning or placing in open tournaments, he/she probably won't get much out of our tournament and will not enable beginners to compete against other beginners. The spirit of our tournament is for beginners to compete against other beginners. thanks in advance for your honesty. formerwrestler
