  1. Looks like Howe is going to redshirt this year. Were going to have to wait one more year to watch him mentally and physically break people on the mat. Coach Weimer http://www.win-magazine.com/2012/09/trio-of-sooner-all-stars-will-redshirt-in-2011-12/
  2. Great!! Coach Douglas, Williams, Gondol, and I are heading there in 13 hours!!!!!! I will look for you.
  3. Man, I am PUMPED, I love this time of year!!!! I can't wait to get to St. Louis and cheer on all the Boilermakers and any other Indiana wrestler there. I love when other teachers ask me at school if I have filled out my bracket yet and I say yea but I am having trouble with the 184 bracket it is very deep and anyone can win it!!! Their expressions are priceless. Who all is going to make the Trip?!?!?!?!?!?!? Coach Weimer
  4. 1. elimination of distractions- Kid's can lose focus very easy and if you have to roll out mat's inside an area where there can be distractions (reg students walking around, friend's or girlfriend's sitting and watching) you wrestler's can lose their focus very easily. 2. spend more time administrating rather than teaching- If you have to roll out mat's and possibly mop them before you practice you lose a ton of time that could be used going over the important part's of your technique teaching during your practice. 3. The feeling of ownership- If you have a wrestling room that you can call your own you can stay later, start earlier, or do whatever you want. Rather than being on a schedule where you have to work around other's. Hope this help's Coach Weimer
  5. Don't know where u would put him, but I think cashe could b considered as one of them. Coach weimer

  7. I have been trying to pull up the RTC schedule on the ISWA website but haven't had any luck. If someone can, could you cut and paste it on this topic, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Coach Weimer
  8. I can't put them in order but here are the best memories in my coaching experiences through-out the entire team state series. 2008 Team Regional Finals dual against Cathedral- Cathedral won sectional's and was heavily favored against us in that dual. So many crazy things happened throughout the entire dual to where it came down to a tie score and we won on the criteria, most fall's. 2008 Team State Finals 1rd down by 6 pt's starting the dual against Elk Mem- With 3 matches left we needed a pin, tech and major to tie the dual. Brandon Nelson went out and got the tech-fall, Greg Bell went out and got the major decision, and Cashe got the fall to tie the dual meet score and we won on criteria, most matches won. 2011 Team State Regional Finals against HSE- Again we were down by 9pt's and bumped Jordan Johnson up and put our back-up Jacob Henry in and he goes out and get the win to put us down 6pt's and JJ goes out and get's the pin to tie the dual and we won on criteria, most offensive point's scored. 2011 Team State Semi-Finals against EMD- We had to make history just to win, we pinned them 4 times, something that has never been accomplished in the history of EMD's program, we won on criteria, most fall's. 2012 Team State- Getting to watch as a spectator, on of my best friends and the godfather of my youngest son, Hank Carley (Asst. Coach Warren Central), experience all that team state has to offer from the parade of champion's walk, the wrestler's and Head Coaches introductions, to the thrill of coaching in the most electrifying atmosphere you could ever coach in!!!! Team State was something special, every round and match is filled with emotions that you can't describe unless you coached or wrestled in it. I am honored and proud to have had the opportunity to coach in it 2-times. To all the Coaches and Wrestle's dating back to 1996 all the way through to 2012, Don't ever forget your experiences of Team State, each and every one of you were part of something very special, something that may never happen again in our lifetime. EMD was the 1st and Perry was the last!! Coach Weimer

  12. Man this topic comes up every year around this time and my vote is always Eric Douglas, 2-time runner-up, losing to the same guy from Ben Davis (can't remember his name). If you know Coach Douglas, he is not much of a talker, and I asked him about his high school career along time ago. After his junior year, he made his mind up that he was going to wrestle whatever weight the Ben Davis wrestler was going to go, many people don't think that way anymore when it comes to wrestling. Even though he didn't get a state title, he didn't shy away or dodge people, he went after them, and that is the type of attitude you need to have in such a tough sport. He also went on and finished Runner-up at Senior nationals and became and All-American at Purdue University. Great resume for never winning a state title. Coach Weimer He is a pretty good ping pong player too.

  17. Man oh Man, If you have ever had the opportunity to be a part of a dual either as a coach or a competitor with such High-Stakes on the line you will understand that celebration's is the nature of the beast. The game-planning involved by the coaches, every match is contested till the buzzer sound's, bumping to get the best-match-up's, and crowd's are going crazy!!!! It's AWESOME!!! I enjoyed every minute of that dual starting with the Big Blow up Falcon Tunnel, then the Glow Stick 6-shooter, the Warm-up's, Face-off's, to the matches. That's what this sport need's!!!!! Look at J-Rob from Minnesota, Brand's from Iowa, Smith from Okie State, Sanderson from Penn State, they prepare their wrestler's to put on show that is entertaining to the most enthusiastic wrestling fan all the way to a first-time wrestling observer. Wrestling is a very demanding, intense, and emotional sport that pit's 2 extreme competitor's against each other and when a competitor win's a tightly contested match sometimes they celebrate. Celebration's is a part of it and good for the sport. I think all the wrestler's put on a great show and the celebration's were fine. Thank you to both of the coaching staff's for giving me cold chill's in a couple different instances through-out last night in a great wrestling dual!!!! Coach Weimer
  18. Brandon Nelson purdue 141 is in the quarters, beat the Ill kid 19-17 first rd and then upset the 4 seed from lehigh was is ranked 8th in the nation. Coach Weimer
  19. First and foremost if you get a great group of kid's AKA a "murder's row" it is very exciting and gives you a definite advantage at either light, middle, or upper weights. In my experiences coaching, we always ended up with a lighter group of guy's more so than the upper group. It gave us a best opportunity to be flexible with bumping our guy's to get better match-up's. When you have a great group of kid's bunched together they not only made each other better in the wrestling room but everyone around them, i.e. their back-ups. To add to that, we could have those guy's wrestle with our middle weight wrestler's during practice and that in turn made them better. So if we ended up bumping our back-up was well prepared to compete and our middle weight's were always prepared because they were battling everyday with those light weight guy's. Looking at the other side in having a great group of upper weight's, You will always have those guy's making each other better and their back-up's, but in my opinion it doesn't give you the best opportunity to make the middle and lower weight's better because of their weight difference in practice. Also, in some cases it can take away that flexibility of bumping for better match-up's, because you are topped out at HWT. Again, It is very exciting to have a "murder's row" anywhere in your line-up, but personally I enjoyed having our light weight "murder's row", they were fun to coach. Coach Weimer
  20. au160, I luv it!! Always working on becoming a better coach and mentor, You have to educate the mind as well as the body!! Coach Weimer
  21. I' have read all of them and must say, I enjoyed every 1. 4 day's to glory- You will find yourself pulling up memories of when you competed, the great and tough time's that you went through, your team went through, and the wrestler's you met through competing. American Victory- If you have ever coached or had the opportunity to impact kid's, those memories will will hit really home and you will want to call that wrestler, student, or kid just to see how they are doing and let them know you are still always there for them. Great Read!!! Never Stop Pushing- If you ever had any type of adversity outside of the wrestling world and the only way you knew how to deal with it was through the sport, you will have a great appreciation for this book. A season on the mat- When you read this book, you can imagine yourself being a part of the experience. This book gives in great detail how tough it is for a coach at the highest level to keep everything together and for a wrestler to stay at the top of his game when every1 want's to knock you off. Hope this give you some insight as to which to start reading first. Coach Weimer
  22. I am very Excited for 2night, it will be a very special moment to see Nelson and Cashe' competing in the same line-up together, but this time Nelson is the Bigger one!!! Ha Ha.
