  3. Another good match from Mooresville

190- three time defending state champ Hannah West beat defending state runner up Oneal 2-1. Oneal up 1-0 with under 30 seconds left. West gets an escape to tie it up. Then Oneal gives up a penalty point (no idea what it was). They should meet again next Friday for the state championship.

West has won 11 times at the state finals with all wins by pin, including 9 first period pins. Oneal has been her only competition.

I’d love to see this considering the last few year of talk has been how much more developed the northern half of the state has been in terms of girls wrestling.    I guess we can calculate the number of placer after next weeks competition.

You should calculate last years' results! I would be interested as well. I really have no knowledge just supporting Eville!!!!

The best part is that Corydon, North Harrison, and Crawford County drive past Floyd Central and New Albany to get to Jeffersonville, while Floyd and New Albany drive through Corydon to get to Southridge.

You can’t make this stuff up! Crazy….

Same route as the boys semi-state.  So for Mooresville it would be:

    Franklin (Mooresville)

    West Washington (Jeffersonville)

    Mr. Vernon (Castle)

    Floyd Central (Bloomington South)

Ah okay. I missed Mt Vernon. I was thinking the Mt Vernon near Indy. Thanks!

190 Kiser has a loss to Penola this year already. I'd go off of that result.

Luke Penola (Zionsville) over Lane Kiser (Trinity (Louisville)) (Dec 7-3)

Also the last time Hawkins and Raney wrestled I believe it was 2-0 Raney

In my simulation of the dual, Hawkins and Penola went out to eat the night before and had Asian food that made them sick Saturday morning. So they weren’t at full strength and therefore, lost their matches lol

I’m just guessing but with trying to find a few girls to fill in some of the weight class holes*, plus it also falling on a holiday weekend it could be a a day or two more before it’s all officially released.  The trackwrestling deadline for the SS has been set to be released at  Tues. 1/2 at 4pm. Although they could always release it earlier if everything’s in place faster. I’d imagine the state brackets come out a little quicker with the timing and the fact all weight classes would be full.

*Determine which 5th placers (or any available girl) should fill in the missing weight hole, then contact that schools coach, who contacts their wrestler to let them know, who contacts their coach, who contacts  the tournament director if they are in or not, and then adjusting the bracket accordingly after. Then repeat these steps for the amount of SS weight holes there are for 4 different SS.

    Makes perfect sense! Thanks

  9. Who is this kid?

I knew he was good coming in.... but he beat Brady Ison 3-1. Ison has been a STUD for four years in high school. Then he beats STATE CHAMPION Kyrel Leavel 6-4. He pinned place winner Wesley Smith as well. Really? When have we seen a freshman beat accomplished seniors? Only Nick Lee that I can remember.. but Clinton is on another level.

He was rated as the number 2 middle schooler in October 2022 behind fellow STUD Evan Stanley.

    2. Clinton Shepherd--8th grade--Crown Point--120--(132-138)

10-0 at VACs, 2nd at Super 32, 3rd at IHPO, (5-2 at IHPO 2021, Tulsa 12U 2nd, NHSCA duals 6-0, 8-0 at the Bear Duals(OW), 6-2 Nat MS Duals, BlueGrass Nat Duals, 6-0 Supreme Killer Duals, 5-0 at Sparty Duals, 7-1 GRR duals, 3rd at NUWAY Nationals, 7-0 Mat Mayhem duals, 3rd and 5ht at Indy Nat, ISWA state champ) * 2021 Super 32 3rd place (coin flip), National Middle school Duals 5-2

Will he be a four timer?

can't see Ison or Leavel getting beat by a 'freshman' their senior years.. But this kid is different.

  10. 106- #2 Jones vs #3Campbell (Jones dec) 3-0 AS

    113- #4 Lewis vs #2Rioux  (Rioux dec) 3-3 TIE

120- #2 Jendreas vs #8 Henderson (Jendreas major) 7-3 AS
126- #2 Hawkins vs #1 in KY Raney (Raney Major) 7-7 TIE

132- #4 Demarco vs #1 in KY Raney (Raney Major but I can see pin or tech) 11-7 MD

    138- #2 Shepherd vs # 7 Syra (Shepherd dec) 11-10 MD

144- #1 Courtney vs KY 20-0 Jenkins (Courtney dec) 13-11 AS

150- #1 Kresja vs # unranked Vanover (Kresja by fall) 19-11 AS

157- #2 Braubender vs Griffin from IL. (Griffin major) 19-15 AS

165- #1 Rinehart vs #17 Hallet (Rinehart by fall) 25-15 AS

175- #3 Costello vs #5 Emerine (Costello dec) 28-15 AS

190- #2 Penola vs IHPO champ from KY  Kiser (Kiser dec) 28-18 AS

215- #1 Clark vs #14 Terry (Clark dec) 31-18 AS
285- #1 Clark vs KY Guillame holds a state title in KY. (Clark dec) 34-18 AS

final score Al Smith wins 34-18

Mater Dei holds their own against the Al smith winners when the Al Smith is head and shoulders better and much, much deeper.

  11. Who will be the first Indiana wrestler to win Ironman?? Could Lee, Mendez, Red, Micic, Boston, Parris, etc have won it in the past??

We had several wrestlers lose very close matches that could have went either way.

Also, I am very surprised at how our tough seniors could lose to freshman or sophomores. I didn’t see that coming. It’s such a tough tournament. My predictions were way off.
