  1. Oh, that’s a good one. Robert Miller was probably the most unathletic out of the group too. But, no one, and I mean no one, could stop or figure out his left handed headlock. Robert was one of the most intriguing champs we have ever had. Started his freshman year at Cathedral only to win the title for Lawrence North two years later. The last of one of the nastiest group that has arguably come through Indianapolis in a couple generations, Robert emulated the Christian Park room. More champs and placewinners came out of that room than any other I have seen. Lance Ellis, Billy and Jason Terry, Rob Walke, Matt Puckett, the Guhls, the McGinleys, and Danny Pleak was prob in there as a 5 or 6 year old too. Good memories of the 1980s/90s Cathedral and Warren teams. The Indy near Eastside’s proudest wrestling heritage. Absolute assassins in the day.
  2. Yes. It is how most of the folks on Gridiron Digest refer to the Catholic/Jesuit schools. Easier abbreviation.
  3. Come see the best of Indy's P/Ps battle tonight in the Cathedral gym. A huge number of former CYO champions will be battling it out in this North vs. South Catholic battle. J/V starts at 6p. Varsity starts ~6:45p. CYO students have free entry. Pizza in the cafeteria after the dual. Go Irish!
  4. Love to see Indiana compete like this on the national scene. Well done, Avon and Portage.
  5. I have nothing to retract. I meant what I said sober or blacked out. If you rest starters and it costs you a W, it should have a negative consequence. Pretty simple really. Frankly, I don’t give 2 sheets about rankings. I don’t even know if they are for an individual tourney team or dual meet team. Since I think I might be the only Cathedral supporter on this site, I figured the masses could use a little philosophy since most of the Avon/B.B. world have been feeling pretty invincible lately. Glad I could get some of your dander up. I’m positive Coach Snyder and the Bulldogs could care less what I think anyway.
  6. Fair enough. But, how boring would this site be if we all just got on here and had to listen to “The County” vomit on us all their accolades, feeder programs, etc. Somebody’s got to keep those boys in check. And if the #1 team in the state losing isn’t newsworthy on this site, I don’t know what is. Likewise, if Chesterton or Columbus East (who both are wrestling splendidly) knock of Cathedral at #2 at the Al Smith this afternoon, there will be plenty of chatter. But, mainly, I was a little drunk and bored.
  7. This is a noble post. Leads me to wonder: if a program can’t keep kids healthy and injury free, should they not have consequences? Most of the dominant professional and collegiate sports teams mitigate injury and wellness as part of their overall franchise/team health (outside of the 5 player team NBA). Ring worm, fever, weight probz, grades, etc, are all part of the program. Shouldn’t Yorktown be #1 because they brought what they could for better or for worse? Bankers is all that matters in the end, but I feel like programs that sacrifice competitions for team improvement shouldn’t have a free pass.
  8. Correct. Danny beat him at least once at the Spartan Classic. I believe he also lost to Greenfield Central’s Heath Kirkpatrick. 171 was a nasty weight in 1996.
  9. Ummmm, Brownsburg getting 2nd to Yorktown at Mooresville.....
  10. Cathedral goes 7-1 in the quarter final round! Great effort. 7 in the semis, 11 still alive. Some solid back draw wrestling from Wilson and Oliver. Thought Oliver would make the semis, but he’s wrestled almost all the way back. Nice mental toughness, Caleb! Chesterton with 5 to the semis and 7 alive. Columbus East with 5 to the semis with 8 alive. Cathedral’s to lose! One more exciting day!
  11. Anyone know if this will be streaming or Track Video?
  12. No mention from the big Perry Falcon Monster... And if the shocker at 113 isn’t Oliver, you kidding. The Irish gamer.
  13. Mosconi bros? I’m sure they won’t be in play at 132 or 170. Irish have a shot at 6 champs. Don’t sleep on our biggun either. The Irish maiden voyage to the Al Smith will be fun. Hopefully, we live up to our #2 ranking.
  14. 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a wrestler was stirring, not even Da Rat, the singlets were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that Bankers Life Fieldhouse soon would be there; The wrestlers were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of "Under the Lights" danced in their heads, and matmaids in their kerchiefs, and coaches in their caps, had just settled down for a short winter nap; When out of the wrestling room arose such a clatter, I sprang from the thermostat to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, jumped over the scale, and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow, gave lustre to the conditioning of wrestlers below, when, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but some spladles, cradles, and coaches as chubby as tiny reindeer. With a little old moderator, so lively, but overrun, I knew in a moment it must be Y2CJ41, more rapid than takedown flurries his members they came, and he whistled and shouted and called them by name; Now Snyder, now McGinley, now, Schoettle, now Schaefer, On, Pendowski, on McClurg, On Tonte and Vega! To the center of the circle, hang from the top of the wall! Now dash away, dash away, dash away all. And, then in a twinkling, I heard in the room, the blood, sweat, and tears of each wrestlers' doom, as coach wallowed out drills as his voice grew hoarse, it was perfectly fine as it was par for the course. As Sectionals and Regionals seem almost here today, Bobby Cox and Blake Ress won't give the IHSAA trophy away, teams jockey and prepare, but go straight to work, because they know that the hardware will soon be there. As Y2CJ41 manages his site for the rest of the year, to his moderator team gave a whistle, and away they ranked, scored, and hoped for no one's dismissal, but I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight, Happy Christmas to All, and TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, lads. Go Irish!
  15. Kinda like when Cathedral didn’t get invited last year, but still got 3rd in the state?
  16. Pretty comical. Cathedral thrashes then #2 Portage, beats then #4 Avon at much less than full strength, #7 Warren, and #13 Crown Point in the last two weeks and they are bumped down a spot. You are telling me Brownsburg’s resume is better??? Doesn’t take a genius to realize that not having the #1 team in the state at the fictional class IHSWCA Dual State Tourney would sure delegitimize it. If Cathedral wins the Al Smith after convincingly winning the Traicoff, I’ll know that the P/P bias is just as strong in the wrestling world as it is in the football world. In the meantime, thanks for the extra motivation.
  17. Coach Watkins almost exclusively seeds from the Team State Rankings for this tournament. Since DecBell just updated them today reflecting last weekend's tournaments/duals, I have to believe he goes straight off the rankings again. And, I believe they don't come out until day before.
  18. We are a school of many counties for sure. Over 60 middle schools are represented in her halls from all over Central Indiana. 73% Catholic. 100% graduation. 97% College Placement. Come be part of the experience no matter what you excel in! We were short two weight classes last weekend. Avon's Miranda absence was noticeable, but I think he would have only picked up (at most) a couple lost quality points to Melloh. I don't think he was beating Zach. And, if Mason bumped, he wasn't beating Slivka at 145. Jordan is wrestling very well right now. A great dual nonetheless. Go Irish! Win the Traicoff!
  19. Few things: 1. Neither Avon nor Cathedral were at full strength yet. 2. Wish Conley - Rodgers would have gone the full length. The first period was very exciting. Rodgers up 3-2 after one and Conley rolled through a Rodgers leg ride into a headlock with 1:30 left in the 2nd for the fall. That will be a Bankers Life match this year. 3. Warren should definitely be a Top 20, DecBell. Young, but formidable. Next up for the Irish is #2 Portage next Saturday at the Traicoff. Some early season tests for #1 Cathedral. The boys looked pretty good today in a tournament that we typically stumble in. Godspeed this week in preparation for Indiana’s toughest dual tourney!
  20. Not sure if I am breaking the rules of pre-season banter, but the preseason #1 Cathedral Irish compete against preseason #4 Avon Orioles in the Cathedral Six Way next Saturday. Since Cathedral had an early football exit, they should be close to getting upper weights to weight for the early dual. Aside from a great looking dual, there should be some great individual matches including: 106 #3 Raymond Rioux (Avon) vs. #4 Logan Bailey (Cathedral) 113 #9 Tyler Conley (Avon) vs #14 Caleb Oliver (Cathedral) 126 - Will #1 Asa Garcia (Avon) wrestle perhaps 120 #8 Lucas Walendzak (Cathedral) or bump and wrestle 132 #3 Alex Mosconi (Cathedral)? 145 - #7 Mason Miranda (Avon) vs. #3 Jordan Slivka (Cathedral) 152 - #3 Nathan Conley (Avon) vs. #7 Elliot Rodgers (Cathedral) 170 - Will #16 160 Anthony Mosconi (Cathedral) wrestle up #3 170 Carson Brewer (Avon)? With 13 returning varsity wrestlers for Cathedral's 3rd place IHSAA State Finals team vs. 12 returning varsity wrestlers from Avon's 3rd Place IHSWCA Dual Meet Team. Should be a great early test for both teams!!
  21. Well said. Thanks for the clarification. I did order a magazine as well
  22. So, will rankings for team or otherwise be pay-to-play only for the upcoming season? I know that some tourneys like the Traicoff usually seed exclusively from Team Rankings. Further, are last year's team rankings generated unilaterally by IndianaMat or is there a voting committee/group that has influence?
  23. Are there IHSWCA or IHSAA Team Rankings anywhere? Links on the site are defunct.
