  1. The invisible copy of the Season Preview Magazine is even better than the super secret copy! But don't ask, you can't see it.
  2. Staples is twice as good as he was last year. A dominant tournament ending in a well deserved championship!
  3. On a not completely unrelated note, what is the maximum number of matches anyone has ever had in one day at IHPO? My over/under is 8.
  4. The FRL boys were discussing this in a bit of depth. Start at 30:55 if the timing is off in the video here.
  5. Post-match interview is live. Well-done!
  6. I would like to reduce my joking percentage from 50% to 5%.
  7. 1. Clinton Shepherd I am only half-joking.
  8. How does someone check the weigh-in weights? Looking at online video only, there were a few guys who looked huge!
  9. I have been watching some of the Disney Duals, and coaching really differs for choice in the second and third periods. Some coaches will always call down even when their wrestler has had trouble getting up earlier in the match and success in neutral or on top, while others will let their wrestlers call neutral if they feel uncomfortable on bottom. This seems to be a balance between winning now, and getting match experience in weaker positions and getting more improvement longer term. I can really see the benefits of experience in weaker positions, but losing a match you could have won can be corrosive to wrestler confidence. What are your thoughts? In championships, I would always go for the win now, but in other matches and tournaments, I am torn.
  10. My status as a non-Region intermediary allows me to communicate their reply. Your proposal to temporarily grant "Region" status to West Lafayette is accepted! But with one modification: to achieve Region status, West Lafayette will need to be temporarily relocated to the United Center in Chicago. Glad to resolve all the issues. I am looking forward to IHSAA next year.
  11. "If kids were allowed in season to club practice with club coaches would that solve some issues from moving"? This is the single biggest issue holding back wrestlers at weak programs. Even an academy wrestler at a school with subpar coaching and low-level practice partners will get worse during the season, not better. IHSAA rules seem designed to make sure that strong programs remain strong and weaker programs can't compete. A track athlete can do event practice mostly solo, but to become a top wrestler you need practice partners of a certain level.
  12. According to Google, Mishawaka has a school population of 1492. Not a small rural school, but not one of the big boys.
  13. Alright, this is nonsense, IHSAA would never hold the finals out of state. But there is word that a very late in-state entry with 23,500 seats is now in play, many luxury suites, and fantastic restaurants nearby: The United Center. The only possible hitch is if the Bulls are so bad that they are not invited to the All-Star weekend, and hang around home pretending to practice.
  14. This is an edit to something I really should not have written.
  15. Looking at team state results: 4A. Finalists were #2 (CP) and #3 (BB) in state qualifiers for all of 4A team state 3A. Finalists were #1 (Mish) and #2 (Col E) in state qualifiers for all of 3A team state 2A. Finalists were #1 (Jay Cty) and #6 (Western) in state qualifiers for all of 2A team state 1A. Finalists were #1 (Tell City) and #3 (Adams Central) in state qualifiers for all of 1A team state Numbers of state qualifiers follows closely team state results, at least for finalists. AStJ
