  1. May or may not have been school approved (ha), but I got a kick out of LN’s Tommy Cash wearing the “money” singlet in the State finals. Sometimes you just have the right name for the right singlet:
  2. Curious - does the data show this to truly be the deepest? Past State Tourney results or even current rankings? Looks tough for sure but there are a handful of other tough conference brackets out there.
  3. Thanks. Way better than my suggestion. Guess I’ve only looked at that path you suggested for criteria pre-tourney and had no idea it would populate when brackets set. Awesome. Much appreciated.
  4. Go to the tournament page and select the “Weights” field. Then select a weight. It will show all competitors and list a seed next to their name. Also I realize some tourneys stop seeding at a certain number (for example #8) which means 9+ can be random (also known as unseeded). But for sake of my listing I still listed what Mooresville listed all the way through 32.
  5. Lots of discussion on here about seedings and final placements. Rainy day and watching football so thought “what the heck” and compiled the results below. All seedings and results are from TrackWrestling and there were some last-minute subs that kept their teammate's seeds. Fun couple of days of wrestling with some high-quality matchups: 106: (Place / Seed / Name / School) 1st – (1) Boyd / Delta 2nd – (7) Malone / Monrovia 3rd – (5) Frahm / Greenwood 4th – (3) / Burke / Munster 5th – (4) Blessinger / Southridge 6th – (6) Godsey / Terre Haute North 7th – (9) Federici / Carmel 8th – (2) Argon / Lebanon 113: (Place / Seed / Name / School) 1st – (1) Bollinger / Delta 2nd – (3) Leonard / Martinsville 3rd – (2) Ash / Monrovia 4th – (4) Dresslar / Southport 5th – (7) Riley / Plainfield 6th – (22) Johnson / Yorktown 7th – (6) Schnarr / Cascade 8th – (5) Halevi / Carmel 120: (Place / Seed / Name / School) 1st – (1) Ash / Monrovia 2nd – (2) Dallinger / McCutcheon 3rd – (3) Owsley / Cordydon Central 4th – (5) Jackson / Delta 5th – (8) Orman / Edgewood 6th – (7) Kirchner / Jennings County 7th – (4) Rogers / Franklin Central 8th – (11) Collier / Owen Valley 126: (Place / Seed / Name / School) 1st – (1) Mosier / Delta 2nd – (2) Nguyen / Guerin Catholic 3rd – (6) Anderson / Hamilton Southeastern 4th – (3) Bryan / Terre Haute South 5th – (5) Fogle / Southridge 6th – (4) Murray / Greenwood 7th – (7) Eppard / Yorktown 8th - (11) Enlow / Corydon Central 132: (Place / Seed / Name / School) 1st – (1) Parker / Ben Davis 2nd – (2) Dedeaux / Terre Haute South 3rd – (8) Clark / Franklin Central 4th – (4) Stuffel / Yorktown 5th – (11) Mattingly / Carmel 6th – (6) Foxworthy / Southport 7th – (3) Mosier / Delta 8th – (5) Wilson / Lebanon 138: (Place / Seed / Name / School) 1st – (1) Boone / Yorktown 2nd – (2) Kirchner / Jennings County 3rd – (5) Faulkenberg / Monrovia 4th – (4) McMillan / Southport 5th – (3) Billet / Hamilton Southeastern 6th – (25) Faag / Plainfield 7th – (19) Kemp / Franklin Central 8th – (10) Bretherick / Danville 144: (Place / Seed / Name / School) 1st – (1) Weaver / Owen Valley 2nd – (2) Hoppes / Yorktown 3rd – (5) Casler / Hamilton Southeastern 4th – (4) Jewell / Greenwood 5th – (3) Rhonemus / Delta 6th – (6) Tranum / Lebanon 7th – (11) Sanders / Southport 8th – (13) Fuller / Martinsville 150: (Place / Seed / Name / School) 1st – (2) Bohn / Munster 2nd – (4) Stevenson / Franklin Central 3rd – (1) Sanders / Mooresville 4th – (9) Hutchison / Cascade 5th – (3) Neidigh / Edgewood 6th – (7) Schmidt / Carmel 7th – (8) Drake / Ben Davis 8th – (10) Barberis / Jennings County 157: (Place / Seed / Name / School) 1st – (1) Lang / Hamilton Southeastern 2nd – (15) Ojeda-Cortes / Carmel 3rd – (8) Hamblin / Martinsville 4th – (3) Hickok / Bloomington North 5th – (6) Rayman / Ben Davis 6th – (4) Lopez / Terre Haute South 7th – (9) Gohl / Corydon Central 8th – (10) Bartusiak / Munster 165: (Place / Seed / Name / School) 1st – (1) Stebbins / Delta 2nd – (2) Eckels / Ben Davis 3rd – (3) Bender / Terre Haute South 4th – (6) Casillas / Bloomington North 5th – (5) Mink / Cascade 6th – (8) Scott / Mooresville 7th – (4) Vernon / Southridge 8th – (14) Gilliam / Northview 175: (Place / Seed / Name / School) 1st – (3) McCloy / Terre Haute South 2nd – (1) Russell / Delta 3rd – (4) Sumner / Martinsville 4th – (2) Hastings / Terre Haute North 5th – (10) LeClerc / Plainfield 6th – (9) Hernandez / Jennings County 7th – (12) Oliva / Ben Davis 8th – (32) Ryan / Carmel 190: (Place / Seed / Name / School) 1st – (2) Casad / Terre Haute South 2nd – (1) Lewis / Cascade 3rd – (3) Finney / McCutcheon 4th – (6) Hagans / Terre Haute North 5th – (5) Frederick / Martinsville 6th – (12) Navarrete / Carmel 7th – (4) Deakins / Northview 8th – (21) Key / Yorktown 215: (Place / Seed / Name / School) 1st – (1) Chicoine / McCutcheon 2nd – (10) Orman / Northview 3rd – (9) Lawhead / Hamilton Southeastern 4th – (5) Aguilar / Seymour 5th – (3) Adamson / Castle 6th – (6) Mercer / Martinsville 7th – (14) Finch / Ben Davis 8th – (12) Freeman / Terre Haute South 285: (Place / Seed / Name / School) 1st – (1) Murphy / Terre Haute South 2nd – (3) Brewer / Northview 3rd – (9) Hinton / Ben Davis 4th – (5) Moss / Delta 5th – (2) Hale / Owen Valley 6th – (7) Cambron / Mooresville 7th – (6) Spilker / Plainfield 8th – (8) Cox / Castle
  6. Totally agree if it’s organic. Big win and the crowd is in to it? Go ahead and have some fun as long as sportsmanship is kept in mind (i.e celebrate yes, push ups on top of your pinned opponent - no). If it’s not organic, like going crazy after every match including when you pinned a 1-7 JV fill in, it’s still okay I guess but you look like a clown. But point well taken GHH that this needs to be fun in addition to hard work. Clearly there are ways to get excited and celebrate without disrespecting an opponent who was at least brave enough to try this sport. Thumbing the singlet doesn’t bother me in the least.
  7. Curious about thoughts on here with the original comment about dealing with kids refusing/complaining about dropping 3 lbs to help the dual team. Not attacking that post at all but curious on how coaches balance the dual v individual side of this sport. We all know this sport is both a team and individual sport. And there are lots of good lessons in sacrifice for the good of the team and helping those around you (as well as yourself) get better. My question is whether or not anyone times this mentality along with what point of the season you’re in. In other words, are there kids you ask to cut weight for the dual season (team) while allowing them after the holidays to stop cutting if their ambition for the state series is a higher class with less scale watching? Do you let them wrestle off at that higher class and get some experience there as the duals wind down and conference and sectionals get ready to start? Or do you promote little to no movement after pecking order is established.
  8. Coached against Jamon Cole in the Middle School Rugby State Championship finals match in the spring. Great kid and he ended up being named State Championship Player of the Match in the final. I didn’t know he wrestled too so will be excited to watch his growth.
  9. Thanks for the update. Can you let us know how to re-up the Silverback? I bought the magazine and don’t mind doing it separately this year but when I go to the “Subscriptions” menu tab it says my current one expires 11/16/2023 but there is no link or button to renew. I 100% could be missing something obvious so advanced apologies if so.
  10. New Castle Semi-State parent on here just eavesdropping on FW. I have to say, this write up is awesome and I appreciate everyone that puts time in to these rankings, the IM magazine, or any positive wrestling chatter to highlight this great sport and its athletes. Well done. Can’t wait to see how things shake out with the new weight classes.
  11. Wondering how golf and tennis are still going to be broadcast. That part wasn’t clear to me from the article. Bummer, but agree it seemed inevitable with the rise of streaming content.
  12. In case you haven’t seen, just a heads up that it was announced today that the IHSAA State Finals for the vast majority of sports (including wrestling) won’t be broadcast on TV (cable) anymore. They will be available behind a pay wall to be streamed. IHSAA site has more details. Bummer. I always enjoyed going in person but setting my DVR to record while I was downtown so we could rewatch at home.
  13. There is now Grippo flavored beef jerky and bottled dry rub for grilling out. As for the dry rub, it’s basically a bottle full of the dust you get at the bottom of a box of Grippos. So, I say just buy the box and use that instead. You get the dry rub and then, bonus, you just ate a box of Grippos!
  14. I wasn’t aware Jones and Dickman wrestled each other! I kid, I kid . . .
  15. If this really happened I totally agree. I know plenty of “good wrestlers” who would want to ask for this exception in the future so they don’t have to get home after 10pm (3 hour drive) and miss the Super Bowl. Coaches too.
  16. Thank you @SIACfan I think the sentence in your explanation that cleared it up for me and was most helpful was - “Think of it this way, just because there is loss of control doesn't necessarily mean the wrestlers are in a neutral position.“
  17. Not arguing what you are saying as I’m not as savvy about the nuances of the rules as you. But I find this very interesting. Fully agree with #1-3 and see those situations all the time. But for #4 I’ve even seen that go 2-1 with 2 going to the wrestler re-gaining control and 1 for the wrestler with the escape but then getting taken down again. Key word being “re-gaining” which implies control was lost in the first place. If control is lost they’re neutral, right?
  18. I think Miguel Rojas also won Indy Nats and is in the Frosh/Soph State field.
  19. But who didn’t enjoy 50 parents huddled together in the back stairways in the only locations people got 1 or 2 bars of service? Whoops, I disclosed the secret location. Kidding aside, Southport did a nice job of setting up big screen monitors around the gyms with Track running through mat assignments.
  20. Powell from Carmel. Hands down. Thought we were watching Billy from “Stranger Things”. Well done young man!
  21. Yep and totally agree. My pic and video snippet weren’t intended as trying to show one better than other. Was just showing gym set up and fun crowd as many of us don’t get to see these pics of other semi-states. New Castle was near empty too by the time we got to 285 placement matches.
  22. I don’t doubt it and pictures can be deceiving. Wasn’t saying one was better than the other, just showing the cool experience at NCSS while people claim gates may be down everywhere due to streaming. This 10 second video clip from last weekend of the New Castle Fieldhouse crowd is pretty cool: IMG_7491.MOV
  23. Go back to general admission for sure. The chaos was an enforcement issue and not a rules issue. I’ve asked before, but who among us wouldn’t agree to a $2 security up charge? Use that $2 x thousands of fans and you can more than hire enough security to make sure people aren’t throwing 20 x 10 foot blankets and sheets over seats to hold them. $2 fee a ticket and you have lots more security enforcing “no holding seats”. Then it’s simple enough - get there as early as you want for better seats and to sit with your schools. Heck, the chaos is over after an hour - you can send half that security team home after the first hour and go back to 80 and 90 year old ushers. Seriously - $2. For the price of a (cheap) coffee, you too can help us avoid TicketGate!
  24. Bummer. Would love to see these places filled to the rafters for these kids. Here was New Castle last weekend
