  1. Can we talk about Peyton Schoettle for just a minute? He placed 8th at U17 51 kg… blood round match was against Shamus Regan… and beat him 7-6. Oh, not sure who he is? Just a Fargo National Champion and a prep National Champion. Beyond that, just a ridiculous resume of accomplishments. This young man is doing big things… total stud!
  2. North Side Redskins Johnny Sewell - 1x State Champ (HWT) Rico Talamantes- 1x State Champ (171?) Eric Early- 1x State Champ (113?) North Side was never known for state champs but these guys were tough.
  3. Lots of respect to all of these guys and they did in fact dominate this year! Those young men are going to do some big things at the next level. Being biased myself, I’m going to put my plug in for Peyton Schoettle. At Marian County, 3 falls and a tech fall in the finals… Mater Dei Holiday tourney.. a fall, tech fall, decision (4th place at KY state championship), and a loss by one point to Isaac Campbell that came with some scoring controversy (watch the video on Trackwrestling). 3 falls at sectional, 2 falls and a tech fall at Regional, a fall, tech fall, and two majors at semi-state, a fall, tech fall, and two decisions (beat the #6 and #2 ranked wrestlers while being ranked #5). I think it is safe to say those who knew him… knew what he was capable of and that he was going to win it. Putting wrestling to the side, he is just a great young man to be around. He is a good student who is humble and leads with a “quiet strength”.
  4. I am certainly proud of our CYO kids as well. Good luck to all of them!
  5. I have seen a lot of aggressive stall calls this year… kid gets hit with his first stalling and in less than 5 seconds gets hit with another. When I have seen this happen it’s in the third period when it could/should have been called in the first. I don’t mind the ref being aggressive but I think that’s too aggressive.
  6. Mr. Obvious… you posted it on a public board where ANYONE can reply. Again, you don’t like the answer than don’t ask the question. I will say I’m enjoying these conversations … I can’t help but think of a quote by Mark Twain… it is better to be thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and reveal all doubt… keep talking… this is great stuff!!!
  7. It was a great match!!! Much better than the sectionals match. Kendrix just didn’t stop… he kept coming after Johnson. Should get real interesting at New Castle!
  8. Kellen Fellure is a beast and totally agree! He will keep rolling!
  9. I appreciate that and good luck to you and your team as well!
  10. Candidly, not sure where you are going with this and thanks for pointing out the obvious that high school students also have seasons. You asked a question and I gave you an answer. You don’t like the answer… then don’t ask the question. I do have thoughts but will choose to share in another forum. I may be “excellent “ but not as good as you. One day I will be as good as you but until then, I will just keep posting my thoughts to the right forum and not getting upset when folks provide answers to my questions when the answer is obvious… congratulations you win the day!
  11. Regarding 4A and 3A… scores after sectional don’t matter even after there was a realignment? Seems strange that some sectionals get easier for 4A and 3A teams and others get harder without accounting for that. The odds of advancing more or less out off sectional and regional are legit. Southport sectional competition has really stepped up while Arsenal Tech’s got easier. This also impacts regionals which in turn affects semi-state. Those are just two “tip of mind” sectionals that I can think of but there are probably more. If you have doubts… talk to the coaches and kids at Mt. Vernon Fortville… sectionals at Southport this year were a hell of a lot more difficult than last year.
  12. Yeah… so let’s talk about registration… for some regionals (one is still open) it was left open past the 13th or the day regionals were supposed to be held. As a result, tons of late registrations and the brackets have ballooned. No excuse for late registrations and they shouldn’t be accepted. While I realize that may not be a popular stance… this is why Central Regionals got out of hand last year in the Fort. Yes, the dude running the tournament cut his nose to spite his face but the late registrations that were allowed killed that tournament.
  13. Maybe because it’s a high school forum?
  14. I love it too and totally agree. I noticed in Trackwrestling other states do this too.
  15. Pat Culp, ISWA President, is the woman behind the curtain orchestrating it with some help from her friends.
  16. I think we should do it. At one point, the NCAA was one division and they evolved. You can make that same case for other states. I coached in TN and I thought it worked out well. I don’t think it hurt the sport and I actually think it helped. Down there, Division 2 is for private schools because they openly recruit… no one cares because they are separate. Then you have big and small public schools and girls. Kids tend to stay in their area but you still have some that move to other schools. You can’t avoid that completely. There was not a lack of talent coming out of the state either… so it really comes down to one question… can folks in Indiana handle the change? Probably not.
  17. Yep… and agreed… I just don’t think the individual tournaments were considered at all.
  18. More so as the season progresses because wrestlers should be getting better. It’s quite possible the dual meet at the beginning of the season was not indicative to what the wrestle is capable of (win or lose). That said, I would think there should be some relevance to what has happened most recently. For example, Greenfield Central beat New Pal by 40 points at the Spartan Classic but does Greenfield Centrals seed reflect that? Maybe… I truly don’t know hence the question. On the front end, I know there are a lot of factors going into tournaments vs. duals and in no way shape or form am I suggesting Greenfield Central is better than New Pal or vice versa. What I am saying is if there wasn’t any consideration given to holiday results, I would suggest for them to be a consideration in the future.
  19. To me, it seems like Holiday tournament performances this past week were not a factor for the seeding. Is this just my perception or did holiday tourney results get factored into the equation? Asking for a friend…
  20. Not sure it is inner city… it’s outside 930 (barely)… still not bad.
  21. I won’t hold that against you!!! Crazy thing… I spent my childhood in Snider’s district… I actually lived in St. Joe township by the ball diamonds and went to Snider football camps… I could have went to Northrop or Snider… I thought I was going to Snider… then we moved across town close to Parkview Hospital. Lots and lots of friends at Snider. As a HWT wrestler, I looked up to Tony Vaughan. Watched him as a kid at Snider and went to watch him at Purdue… he was a bad, bad, man… unreal the athleticism that dude possessed and the strength. Definitely a once in a generational kind of guy. I almost wrestled at Manchester College because of him but instead wrestled at UIndy… crazy because that was when signing a Letter of Intent was not a big deal… you signed it and just sent it back… no signing day stuff.
