We had 131 referees apply for the Sectional. We need 128 referees to staff the tournament. While we were in the meeting with Mr. Faulkens going over the tournament series, his administrative assistant came in with a note that two referees had dropped out. Others will drop before the end of the week for a variety of reasons. We will end up using veteran officials who did not apply for the tournament and first year officials who have had good recommendations.

The number one reason new referees do not continue is abuse from coaches and fans.

We do everything we can to train them and keep them going. In the Indianapolis area our association offers a class and we have a mentor program, where the new officials shadow an experienced official. We have association meetings where we discuss situations and rules throughout the season. It's an uphill battle.

Like it or not, referees are part of the sport. Without them there are no events. Our sport is doing everything we can do increase the number of athletes. We need the same effort to increase the number of referees. We should be in this together, but sometimes it seems we are fighting coaches and administrators.

Yeah, then after he's done there next week he can transfer to Beech Groove and get shots at regional and semistate at some other kids! Now that would be great for Indiana wrestling (sarcasm font)...SMH. This is nuts.

Every year for the last century (sarcasm) but for a long long time, there are always a decent amount of kids cut down a weight class right before sectionals. This is not something that is brand new in the world of high school wrestling. I don't know what all this fuss is about. Is it because it's happening in one of the state's top programs year in year out? Is it because it's involving a blue chip freshman that could have made a very deep run in the state tournament @ either weight class? I am seriously confused as to why this subject is drawing so much attention. Personally I don't feel any of the above questions should even be asked, because we all know this is nothing new to wrestling. I believe this can easily be summed up as a simple case of "I'm taking my ball, & going home"

It does seem funny how your roster could be full but you say you need two more. I am happy to be apart of the program I am.
It would suck to be a wrestler who makes the T-Shirt but doesn't make the roster.

    Here's my thinking....

You got PM people calling out Avon people for looking for kids when the roster is full for an elementary team. Implying they want "better" kids at that weight than what their program currently has and thus questioning loyalty..you with me so far?

But then on the other board you have a PM parent saying that the program is, how shall we say, not being straightforward with arguably the best wrestler in his weight class and forcing him to do something he will not allow his son to do..be unhealthy in the sport. Thus he questions the PM loyalty.

Thus pot calling the kettle black on the loyalty issue.

Again, just my opinion and seems ironic. No offense.

I hope you take the time to talk to Coach!  I hope the best for Brayden and your family!  Brayden has been an absolute pleasure to watch and he is a legitimate stud.
I will say however I know with 100% certainty that the Coach is a outstanding person also.

I can't speak to the High School situation because I am simply not in the know other than being a fan. From a loyalty stand point I agree how the interpretation can be "Pot and Kettle" .
I am just reading these issues as you all are having no prior knowledge.

However the Elementary situation is called "Trophy Chasing". Our Elementary Team has had the opportunity to have kids wrestle for us that are not in our room and
simply say no each time. The thought process is we lose with our guys and win with our guys! This would be different if we didn't have a full team of course. I have
heard our Coaches say we would love to have your son wrestle for us as long as you are enrolling in Perry Township and have every intention of being committed to
our program. It would be difficult for me to hear your son can't wrestle because the Kid from another area is better and we just wan't to win.

That is why it I am happy to be apart of the program!

Marion County  =   Lance Ellis   or  maybe Steven Bradley although my pick is Reece Humphrey because of the Collegiate and International Success
