  1. I believe Truver was a State Qualifier the year before, not last year. Regardless the kid wrestled his butt off & has proven he's a force to be reckoned with.
  2. Reitz & Black put on another performance, 8-7 Reitz.
  3. So let us see who would be on this make believe "Region All Star Team" 106 - Colton Cummings - Lowell 113 - Michael De La Pena - Merrillville/ Rickie Rodriguez - Hammond Morton 120 - Jeremiah Rietz - Griffith/ Brendan Black - Hobart 126 - Gaige Torres - Portage/ Jason Crary - Munster 132 - Zach Donaldson - Crown Point 138 - Clarence Johnson - Merrillville 145 - Jacob Covaciu - Merrillville/ Steven "Bam" Lawrence - Portage 152 - Mike Kryzston - Andrean/ Kodie Christenson - Lake Central 160 - Drew Hughes - Lowell 170 - Scottie Sopko - Hobart 182 - Andrew Davidson - Chesterton/ Jake Kleimola - Lake Central 195 - Nick Fowler - Calumet/ Matt Hedrick - Portage 220 - Morgan Kral - Crown Point 285 - Shawn Streck - Merrillville That looks like a pretty solid squad!
  4. Portage is without a doubt part of "The Region"! Lake & Porter County.
  5. Great job on the rankings. You'll never make everyone happy.
  6. Would that background story have anything to do with Ramos's cousin being an Assistant Coach at Hobart & wrestled for Portage under the lights?
  7. Pretty sure Rietz lost to Hildebrandt last year at the Harvest Classic

Predictions? Match-ups? Have at it.
  9. I do not see Tyler Ferguson listed in the rankings. Is he expected to be ready for Sectionals?
  10. Noticed on the results page Clarence Johnson wrestled 145# against Brownsburg. Was hoping to see the results between him & super frosh Brayton "Five Hour Energy" Lee. Wonder if we will see Clarence back down at 132#?
  11. Does Brendan Black need to be added to the conversation?
  12. How about those Portage Indians defeating the Crown Point Bulldogs for a 2nd time this year, 34-21.
  13. Thank you for providing humor to all of this hook and half. In some peoples eyes it will be seen similar to the BCS, always in question. A lot of people put in a lot of hard work & we should not discredit that. Congrats to all the teams involved & to the 1A, 2A, & 3A State Champs. Just like anything else it's a work in progress. If you are not continually trying to improve you're not doing yourself justice. When will the talks begin for next years participants? Looking forward to seeing who will represent for next year.
  14. "This year, Region teams would not have made much impact at Team State (IHSWCA 3A Team State, for short). Portage appears to be the best team in NWI. They were defeated by Penn, 39-24, who finished third at Team State. It also seems unlikely that Portage would be able to beat Warren Central. Portage has beaten Cathedral, who tied for ninth and Franklin, who finished seventh. Portage would have been the fifth or sixth best team in the field, last Saturday. Crown Point or Merrillville would not have cracked the top eight." The Portage/Penn Dual could have gone either way with multiple matches decided by 2 points or less & both teams having key wrestlers out. The 39-24 score does absolutely no justice. Kudos to Penn for being the better team that day, they earned it. But my point is Portage very well could have went to the IHSWCA 3A Team State & placed in the top 3. Your assumption above is completely wrong!
  15. Jake Hartman was part of an unfortunate circumstance involving Torres last year. He is a fine young man & a heck of a wrestler that should not be underestimated.
  16. Ohhhh... How in the heck do they get so much scheduled?
  17. Great job Chad! Proof hard work pays off!
