  1. I wish there would be a lineup to know who is calling which mat. I recognize familiar voices, but don't know names. Other than I think Maurer is calling mat 2?
  2. That was a good match. Lian charged hard in the 3rd period but Haney held him off.
  3. Layne Horn vs. Nate Rioux on Mat 1 right now is the first biggie. Update: Great match with Rioux pulling it out 4-2. Some will call it an upset. I think it was a tough draw for round 1, but not an upset.
  4. Thank you! I was wondering when someone would start this thread. I didn't want to figuring as soon as I did there would be 2 more!
  5. It's definitely a modern arena. I've been fortunate enough to have access to a suite most of the times I have been. But all of the seats are padded. They also have seats at the top of the seating bowl, close to where handicap access seats are. Not sure if they will sell those specifically, but I recommend them. Can't remember exactly what they are called, but there is time for that.
  6. I don't know of a HS gym with nice comfy padded seats like the Ford Center either. I know when I have attended and been there the whole day, my butt thanked me!
  7. I think this year was somewhat of an anomaly. The Evansville and surrounding area teams weren't as strong this year. The strength of this tournament was from schools farther away. Even Mater Dei who qualified 13 and wrestled 11 due to injuries wasn't having one of their strongest years. It wasn't hard to tell that they would likely get no more than 5 kids through to State. With only 11 (I think that's what someone posted) wrestlers from the Castle Regional moving on to State, that had to affect #s. This event has been streamed since 2016 or 2017 (maybe '18) so it's hard to just blame that, though I'm sure it has some effect. I wasn't there this year and don't know if the contingents from BBurg, CG, CE, Avon, etc were normal or down a bit. I'd just chalk this one up to a tournament dominated by 2 schools, both of which are 3 hrs away.
  8. Found it! Here is the match on video. FF to the 42:17 mark to see this wild match! Tyler Fergusen vs. Defending State Champ Jeremiah Reitz - Friday Night 2015 - FF to 42:17
  9. And this landed in my recommendations feed on You Tube, so I figured what the heck, let's watch some wrestling. Nothing like a little throwback wrestling to entertain! 2015 Indiana State Finals 1st Round Mat 4
  10. Man I wish you would have not put a space between Lay and Out in the title. For a good 5 seconds my brain was trying to figure out who Mat Lay is before opening the thread to find out why he was out!
  11. He most definitely is. The wrestlers who have given him problems are ones that are equally defensive and a bit more offensive. Jordyn Raney (KY), Aden Reyes (3-1), Ashton Jackson (3-1), Bryson Terrell (TN 2-0) and Toby Billerman (5-3 SV, also note he beat Billerman 1-0 this year), Evan Dickey (1-0) in the past 2 years. Personally, I'd like to see him open up a bit more against top guys, but I'm not his coach and don't see him wrestle daily, so maybe that's not his best shot. He wins a lot of tight matches too and does open up at times. Just looking forward to seeing him go again this weekend. I'll be curious if he can get a little payback against Reyes Saturday morning. So far he is 6-2 the last 2 years at State with Sat. morning being the bugaboo.
  12. 2014 - if the link below does take you straight there, find the 120lb weight class 2014 IHSAA State - 120 Weight Class
  13. Just went back to look, hoping to see if video was available on TW. It's not. But, the scoring is there and you were really close (close enough not to change your greater point). Sink was up 12-1 and 14-4 in the 3rd period before Alex Johnson got a reversal and then the fall with :11 left. I remember it was crazy! Of course, Johnson finished 6th and then was "rewarded" the next year by injury defaulting to 4th at SS and then drawing Chad Red after Bracket-gate on Friday night. Johnson had one loss in his Senior year going into SS.
  14. Mine dropped for maybe 15-20 seconds, not long after you posted earlier. Was able to recover it quickly though. Glad yours recovered.
  15. Schroeder with a big win over Purdy! 9-5 Schroeder fell behind early to both Henry and Purdy and kept wrestling coming back to beat both. Beating Purdy avenged his only loss on the season, 5-2 at the Mooresville Holiday Classic. Could easily see these 2 again next week. Then again, don't count out Henry or McConnell either, as has been referenced. This whole group is impressive!
  16. Beautiful last second throw by Luke Kemper! Down 7-6 with time winding down, Kemper gets the takedown to back for a 2 and 2 as time expired to beat Andre Merritt 10-7. Merritt had been very impressive all day. Heckuva match!
  17. What problems have you had with Flo today? I haven't had any other than no mic at Table 3.
  18. I must say, outside of a lack of audio at times (and all day on Mat 3) in Evansville, the streams on Flo have been surprisingly good today. I've used the Flo Sports app and had matches going on 2 big screen TV's and another on my laptop, along with the Track Dashboard. The video feeds have been reliable, the quality solid and enjoyable. Of course, the Finals just started, so I am probably jinxing things. But I have blasted Track/Flo in the past for having many issues and today that has not been the case.
  19. Team scores in Evansville are interesting in that Center Grove and Brownsburg are the clear top 2, with CG possibly having an insurmountable lead. The next tier is Mater Dei and Tell City. Not sure if Avon has enough to catch TC for 4th, but it doesn't look like it (without doing actual math). Then Avon, Bloomington South are next. Teams seem to be stuck in groups of 2, at least for the top 6.
  20. Let's hope they do the Finals on Mat 2!!!
  21. Seems like to me they would hold up wrestling on the other mat. I get finishing the match in progress, but starting another just seems odd to me. EMT's just brought a stretcher onto the mat. Hope he can recover quickly.

  23. See my reply above. Goes right along with this. I guess my thinking is if time weren't running out, they'd have let them keep wrestling before awarding the escape (or reversal if it turned into that). But again, I don't know the technical side of the rule.
  24. Just watched it again. Hard to see from the angle we had. I thought (assumed) he reached out and grabbed his near leg as Mills spun around. I don't know the technical side of the rule so you may be right. I thought loss of control wouldn't occur until after the move is complete, aka the spin out and if Vanover grabbed a leg he would have maintained control. I can certainly see the argument the other way.
