  1. Gotta step up! Go big or go home! Opportunity lost! Pretender not a contender! Gorilla or Chimp sized bid?
  2. In no particular order... 1. Heralded freshman Carter Young apparently did a U-turn after arriving at Northwestern and went back home to Stillwater where he'll join the Cowboys. 2. Rumors are swirling that Northwestern coaches Andrew Howe and Jimmy Kennedy have been/will be let go for refusing to abide by the school's Vaccination Policy, leaving the Wildcats without 2 key assistants going into the season. I hope the rumor is not true, they change their mind or something is worked out. It is also the rumored reason for Carter Young's quick departure. 3. The Collegiate "National Duals" are back and being held in Niceville, FL, just outside Destin and Ft. Walton Beach on Dec 20-21. The field has 12 teams, including 7 of the top 11 according to InterMat. They are: - Iowa - Penn St - Arizona St - Cornell - Va Tech - Misouri - Oregon St - Lehigh - Northern Iowa - Hofstra - Central Michigan - NC State 4. Penn State's schedule came out today. It confirmed their participation in the National Duals. They host Indiana this year and Purdue is not on their schedule, so no visits to the state of Indiana. They go to Iowa City again and participation in the National Duals could mean Iowa and Penn State wrestlers could face off 4 times this year. This also means PSU won't wrestle over New Year's at the Southern Scuffle. 5. Willie Saylor has Yianni D. at 149 in his rankings That's all for now
  3. I was hoping to see him make another run at All-American this year. Hopefully, his next venture is great for him.
  4. Micic isn't a 141 lber. Never wrestled above 133. Been at that weight the last 6 years. His 1st 2 years of an 8 year college career were at 125
  5. USA did have the following medal winners in Men's FS 65kg - Beau Bartlett - bronze 70kg - Bryce Andonian - bronze 74kg - Keegan O'Toole - Gold 92kg - Rocky Elam - Gold 97kg - Braxton Amos - Gold
  6. 7 Push outs.... I didn't see it, but those that watched said he was completely gassed in the first 2 minutes. Jesse Mendez also did not medal. He won 9-6, his first match with a late 4 pt move and a garbage TD at the end of the match. He was down 6-1 with 1:20 left. He lost his QF match 10-0 and the guy he lost to, then lost to the eventual champ, so he didn't get pulled back in to repechage for a chance at a medal.
  7. A quick note for those that don't know, the World Team Trials are coming up in a few weeks. Wrestlers who medaled automatically get a spot in the World Team at that weight, if they want to compete the World Championships. So those weights will not be wrestled at the Trials. Taylor and Snyder, I believe have already said they are in. Dake possibly as well. That will force guys like Jordan Burroughs, Jason Nolf, etc to adjust weights. A side note: Jordan Oliver has said he'll be going to 70kg, not 65kg
  8. They do have them.... called repechage. You only get back in if the guy/girl that beat you gets to the finals. A final wrestling summary: Men's FS - All 5 medaled 57kg Thomas Gilman - Bronze (lost to eventual gold medal winner 5-4 on a takedown in the last 5 seconds) 65kg - US did not qualify 74kg - Kyle Dake - Bronze 86kg - David Taylor - GOLD 97kg - Kyle Snyder - Silver 125g - Gable Steveson - GOLD Women's FS - 4 of 6 medaled 50kg - Sarah Hildebrandt - Bronze 53kg - Jacarra Winchester - lost Bronze medal match 57kg - Helen Maroulis - Bronze 62kg - Kayla Miracle - Did Not Medal/No Repechage 68kg - Tamyra Mensah-Stock - GOLD 76kg - Adeline Gray - Silver Greco-Roman No Medals 9 total Medals 3 GOLD 2 Silver 4 Bronze Definitely the best showing by a USA team in a long time. As was mentioned earlier, 1984 team's earned more medals, but many of the countries with the best wrestlers did not compete.
  9. I'm with you. I hate watching Greco-Roman. I've tried. Occasionally. I'll watch Match videos USA Wrestling posts to You Tube. As soon as I see a match is Greco-Roman, I move on to the another. Tried several matches during these Olympics and the Trials before. Just can't do it.
  10. Don't try your hand as sports reporter. That was the worst description of one of the most exciting Olympic matches ever. Lol. Snyder vs. Sadulev has a tall mountain to climb to become the Match of the tournament, a very tall mountain. For anyone that may have slept through the match, Steveson controlled the first period and was up 4-0. He gave up an exposure and Gable got a reversal for 1 to keep it at 5-2. Late in the 2nd period, Gino got a TD and 2 turns for six quick points to go up 8-5. Steveson scored 2 takedowns in the final 10 seconds to win it, the last with less than a second left. It was an unbelievable comeback!
  11. Sarah Hildebrandt with 2 dominant wins to advance to the semifinal at approx 5:05 am central time. Kyle Snyder with 12-2 and 6-0 wins to advance as well. He'll kick things off in the morning at approx 4:45 am. Kyle Dake wrestles for bronze at 5:30 am and Jacarra Winchester around 5:55am Lastly, Gable Steveson will go for Gold at about 6:20 am All available on the Olympic Channel or nbcolympics.com or the NBC Sports app
  12. Damn, Steveson was impressive! He had an easy 10-0 win in about 2 minutes over Lazarev of Krgystan in round 1. Next was Turkey's Akgul, the Olympic Gold Medalist in Rio and 2x World Champion. Steveson handled him with ease, 8-0. On to the semifinal tomorrow morning at approx 4:45 central time. Kyle Dake got a solid 4-0 win in round 1 over an iranian with a really long name. Then, Dake got whipped in the Quarterfinal, 11-0 by a Belarus wrestler with an equally long name Dake will have to hope he wins his semifinal against Frank Chamizo to be drawn into repechage and hope for a bronze. Dake didn't look his normal self tonight. Jacarra Winchester at 53kg lost her 2nd round match to Pang of China 6-2 and will have to hope to get back into bronze contention.
  13. Kyle Dake and Gable Stevenson nearing their Olympic openers in about 90 minutes
  14. David Taylor advances to the Final with a 10-0 1st Period pasting of Deepak Punia of India. He'll faze Yazdani for Gold. Helen Maroulis lost her semifinal and will wrestle for bronze. Tonight there's a ton of wrestling..... Gilman in repechage shortly after 9 pm (central). Myles Amine also in repechage and will be around the same time. Kyle Dake and Gable Steveson up around 10:00. Dake is estimated at 9:51. Quarterfinal matches to follow. EDIT: Maroulis was in the semis so she advances to the Bronze Medal match at approx 6:55 am Thursday morning (Central) All can seen live on The Olympic Channel or the NBC Sports app and nbcolympics.com
  15. Just when I think I understand scoring in freestyle, these matches have confounded me. Apparently it's not only me though, as others have uttered the same questions. I don't know how many times I have seen a takedown with obvious back exposure only scored 2 points. Are there nuances I am missing? And I know I am not alone in my dislike of the passivity clock. I'd be okay with it if there were any consistency at all. But there isn't and it ends up being guesswork. A few results from yesterday... Stevan Micic looked lackluster and lost 7-0 to Japanese wrestler, who then lost his next match, ending Stevan's Olympics. David Taylor dominated Shabanu of Belarus and Myles Amine, wrestling for San Marino. He's in the semifinal this morning. Thomas Gilman lost a heartbreaker to the Russian Uguev on a takedown in the final seconds, 5-4. Gilman wrestled close to the perfect match and led 4-3 against the favorite. Uguev did the same in the Quarterfinal, winning in the last 10 seconds, after being down 6-4 and looking gassed. The late TD gave him the criteria win and kept Gilman alive for gold. Helen Maroulis won handily, 8-0 to advance to this morning's semifinal.
  16. Good stuff in here. Includes training partners, support staff, coaches, etc., including good profiles on all wrestlers. I saw this last night and just started reading it today. Not much of a Greco guy, but found it interesting enough to read through it. Haven't gotten to FS yet.
  17. It seems most of the time when I see the chest wrap move, the wrestler doing so is awarded 4 points, which I guess is what threw me for the whole sequence. Thanks for the info!
  18. Thanks again for this. I had some extra time on my hands and went back and watched all three matches again. If you or someone else could watch the Yianni match again and explain to me the scoring in the first :35 of the 2nd period, I'd appreciate it. I'm still a little cloudy on FS scoring at times, but that action happened so fast I was lost. Watched it twice in a row and am still lost. Lee was up 8-0 and then it was 13-4 after the flurry
  19. Fortunately, wrestling should fit neatly into a 7 day trial of either. But my understanding as as yours, is that The Olympic Channel will be the only available coverage
  20. Hulu Live has it. I recommend a free week trial. It's listed on Hulu's site as Hulu + Live TV. It will give you local channels as well. Add DVR service to record in case you can't catch everything live.
  21. The quick list..... In the Semifinals 100 - Nate Smith 126 - Sergio Lemley 132 - Zeke Seltzer 170 - Brody Baumann 229 - Christian Carroll All-Americans in Consis 170 - Codei Khawaja 195 - Evan Bates Lost in Blood Round 106 - Jackson Heaston 126 - Logan Frazier 160 - J Conway Let me know if I missed anyone!
  22. I'd be willing to bet on it. Nick said on a podcast he was going to 133 to beat RBY and then joked he'd go up to 184 and take on Aaron Brooks.
