  1. Kral, Gelen, and Streck... Who gets the nod at Heavy?
  2. I believe Streck just broke Merrillville's all time sack record.
  3. Well said maligned. I agree completely. It will be fun to watch what Red has in store his Senior year.
  4. Just my opinion 1.) Hughes 2.) Streck 3.) Woods 4.) Covaciu 5.) Cummings 6.) Davison 7.) Torres 8.) Hildebrandt 9.) Lawrence 10.) Black
  5. Are there any individual results yet? I'd be interested to know who beat Hughes.
  6. I think you are being generous. I would take Micic 9-3. No offense to Red, as I see him being undefeated, 4x champ. I just think Micic was great last year. The closer match would be Red his Senior year vs Micic his Senior year. (If both at 126)
  7. I have always been anti-classes for the individual tournament. 1.) I am anti- because of selfish reasons. I think we can all agree that we would like to know who is the best wrestler in the state during the tournament. (Again this is selfish, but it provides me the most enjoyment. That is the most important right. < Just kidding.) 2.) Where do classes end? I know Y2 is ok with breaking it into 2 classes. However, I am sure we can continue to use the logic to break it out into 3, 4 or even 5 classes. Meaning, if we break it into 2 classes there will still be schools at the bottom that dont statistically send the amount to state that the higher 2A schools do. (And so on) 3.) We give the option to Mater Dei to move up to 3A, because they are an anomaly of a small school. Their team and their wrestlers get to wrestle the other top teams. Do we then not believe we can have anomalies amongst individuals in small schools and they can't beat those top individuals? I know Illinois, Ohio, etc all have classed systems. However, it would have been a shame last year if we wouldn't have seen a Micic vs Nick Lee match just because Hanover was 2A, and Nick was in 3A. (Just because Mater Dei decides to go to 3) Those are the type of matches I dread we will not see if we move to 2 or 3 class individual tournament. Yes, we may have seen them wrestle during Al Smith, or some other big tournament but sometimes we don't - just like the Micic/Lee case. We didnt see this until the tournament. I understand the reasons why there are people who want a class system. The numbers support what you are saying. I cannot disagree. I will also not disagree that after the dust settles it will bring in more fans. These are the only points why I would want to keep it. If we can think of a way around these items I could possibly hop to the dark side. LOL (Tournament of Champions?)
  8. If you allow Mater Dei to jump up to 3A during team finals. (Which I agree with btw) Would you allow a great individual to jump up to a higher class if they want to?
  9. 125 - #2 Delgado 133 - #4 Johnni DiJulius 141 - #1 Logan Stieber 149 - #2 Jason Tsirtsis 157 - #3 James Green 165 - #1 Bo Jordan 174 - #3 Mike Evans 184 - #5 Kenny Courts 197 - #5 Studebaker 285 - #4 Bobby Telford 1.) Iowa 2.) Ohio State 3.) Penn State
  10. Just playing devil's advocate here - if the numbers do make a difference why would you stop with 2 classes? If 2 classes were granted and the numbers play out where only 15 percent of the smallest 2A schools make it - then do you keep making more classes to get to where it is about even?
  11. I was just curious on how different clubs around the state fared during the state tourney. Which had the most champs? Which had the most placers? Which sent the most? etc..
  12. Good question. The only reason I want to know is because I think I did relatively well.
  13. I've said my piece. No need to beat a dead horse. Agree to disagree
  14. I guess it depends on your end game here. 1.) If your end game is to get more fans and generate more revenue for the sport - then I believe a 2 classed system is the way to go. (I have been persuaded) 2.) If your end game is to have one TRUE champion - then IMO a single classed system is the way to go. (Still not persuaded) I will not stop supportting wrestling if they move to a classed system. However, it may make me rethink going down to indy to watch it. (You may think I am not a true fan, I am just trying to be honest.) Please note my one empty seat would be filled by 40 others who want to see a family member participate.
  15. You are correct Y2 fans will be gained and fans will be lost. You are just hearing the voices of the fans that will be lost. No one is saying that Cummings can beat Streck, I just think we like to see a clear cut champ. The classed system will undoubtedly pull in more wrestler participation, which in turn brings in more fans. So I can't really argue that point. The fact that people enjoy the current system shouldn't be an absurd idea.
  16. Y2 I think you make a good point here. But to play devil's advocate, last year we would have the Lee vs Micic debate rage on if they were split into 3 classes. Although these larger tournaments may be able to get some good match ups, I don't think it is a guarantee that we get to see all of them. I have come around to see that classed individual may be better for more participation in the smaller schools, I still haven't come around to be convinced that it would be a more exciting finals weekend. (Of course this is selfishly speaking - because everything revolves around me. LOL)
  17. I understand that there are states that have a individual class system and that really does bolster your argument. I am not debating who is right, because it looks like the new wave of thinking will be a classed system. However, I do enjoy the individual non-classed system as it stands currently. It may be a little part of the "hoosier" sentiment when a small town kid can win a state title. (Yes, I know they can still win a "state" tourney with a classed system - just not the same imo) I know the "Tournamen of Champions" failed miserably in basketball, but is this something that could work with individual classed wrestling? I am totally for a classed system when it comes to a team's championship. Good discussion guys!
  18. Here are some of my most anticipated matches and my predicted winner. Obviously, the brackets would have to play out this way - so this is just my opinion. 106 - Triana vs Diep 106 Winner: Cummings 113 - Hildebrandt vs Konrath 113 Winner: Pepple 120 - Reitz vs Ferguson, or Black vs Egli (Both tough Friday matches) 120 Winner: Hudkins 126 - Torres vs Uk or Red vs Molly. (Just because of they hype now) 126 Winner - Red by a landslide 132 - Strawsma vs Coy (I guess) 132 Winner: Lee 138 - Cash vs Johnson 138 Winner: James 145 - Covaciu vs Pruitt or Covaciu vs BAM! 145 Winner: Covaciu 152 - Forte vs Kemper 152 Winner: Forte 160 - Gray vs Schurg 160 Winner: Hughes 170 - Lydy vs Mammolenti 170 Winner - Lydy 182 - Davison vs Hinkle and Parris vs Osborn 182 Winner - Osborn 195 - Howard vs Tonte 195 Winner - Rypel 220 - Larson vs Kral 220 Winner - Woods 285 - Streck vs Oglesby 285 Winner - Streck
  19. Good point OTR 219... Who would be your locks this year? Here are mine... * Red * N. Lee * Forte * Rypel James may be a lock as well, but I think the Cash match can potentially be interesting. With that being said, only one MV semi-state lock, so although I too think Merrillville will have the most champs it is by far not certain.
