Davison definitely deserves some love. That was one heck of a tournament run. Unfortunately Kerkvliet stood in the way of a story book ending.

But hey he gave us Indiana boys two NCAA D1 finalists & fun ride.

Hats off to Mr. Lucas Davison!

But in Vito's case his only 2 losses are to undefeated & 2nd seeded Ryan Crookham. Yet he is seeded behind Orine, Shawver & Ragusin who all have 2 or more losses as well & to lower ranked guys.

I understand him being ranked behind Fix & Crookham but not the other three.

Carr's 4 seed makes sense given O'Toole & Mesenbrink are undefeated & he lost to Ramirez.

Ill point out that the bad news always gets more attention, so this isn't necessarily so.
In my interactions, 99% of the time I see good sportsmanship, good behavior and people enjoying the sport.   Just like our news, the negative makes a good story, but it sure doesnt mean that its the norm.  Ive been around wrestling for years, and crazy ***potty mouth*** has always happened.

Not sure what happened in the IHSAA event, but maybe handled wrong, but the IHSAA doesnt look kindly on stuff described.    Im sure this was investigated and acted on.  Guns are so prevalent,  people love them,  but still this is an anomaly.

On the ISWa tournament,  there was a lot of brotherly wrestling love this weekend.  99% of people were great,  appreciative and enjoying themselves. Its like a giant wrestling reunion.  Yes, there was some incidents from passionate people whose behavior could have been better.  But  I dont think the original poster knows the full circumstances of the situation described.   I say look at all the good this weekend, kids of all ages learning sportsmanship, making friends enjoying competing.  It overshadows any negative,  and that crazy behavior is not anything new.   Always some bad apples.

There is always going to be several perspectives. But the way I see it Rooks took advantage of the opportunity that the Teske seeding technicality offered him. While Boarman simply failed to take care of business & may pay a steep price because of it.

    Special Shout to Mendez!

Winning the 141 Title by beating Woods & Bartlett on the way. His interview was sweet. It's clear he has bigger aspirations in mind.

Here is a run down of all the Indiana native's that placed (please let me know if I missed anyone).

    133 - C. Rooks 7th
    141 - Mendez 1st, Lemley 4th
    149 - G Rooks 7th
    157 - Lee 5th
    174 - Baumann 8th
    197 - Allred 3rd
    HWT - Davison 3rd

Brayton Lee could have been in the finals. He lost to Will Lewan in SV in the semifinals, but he had a TD all but secured in the final seconds of regulation. If he would have just covered Lewan's hips he would have gotten the 3. But he had Lewan almost on his back & went for that instead. Lewan was then able to scoot his hips out & square up. Hindsight is 20-20.

Good luck to all these guys at Nationals.

SIACfan got a reaction from Greg Ratliff in How much money do you spend on wrestling?
This is a interesting topic to me.

I am talking sports in general here not just wrestling, but when I was a kid my parents spent very little for me to participate in local leagues & next to nothing for me to be a part of school teams. But back then kids travel sports didn't much exist. Plus kids specializing in one sport year round wasn't really a thing either. Neither was the sport specialized training centers/clubs for kids. It was a very different landscape back then.

But by the time my kids were growing up (who are adults now), the specialization was first appearing, at least to my knowledge. Everything my kids got into, it got extremely competitive & expensive at an early age with travel teams & training.

And one of the things I noticed was all the people trying to exploit kids sports for profit. Now I'm not saying everyone running kids tournaments &/or training facilities is guilty of this, but there are those out there that are guilty of it. In one particular instance, I witnessed a husband & wife who got involved as volunteers running tournaments when their child was playing. They quickly discovered that they could make money doing it. After their child was grown & no longer playing they continued to run tournaments for extra money. After about a decade, both had quit their jobs & were running tournaments as a business. Once my kids were grown & done playing sports, I became an official & worked a lot for them. They would hold meetings in the off-season for the officials trying to ensure they had a large set of officials for the tournaments they were running every weekend 8 months out of the year. They always preached about how it was all about the kids, but their actions got more & more driven by the dollar with every passing year. I eventually stopped working for them.

I'm not certain what my point is exactly, except that as parents just remember what is most important.

Tragically, Lee gets outscored 18-2 by Austin Gomez after owning a 10-4 lead and ends up teched. This is the 3rd straight Olympic cycle at this weight that we are taking a shocking loss and not qualifying this weight.

Zane Richards moves to tonight's semis against Darian Cruz at 57kg.

I have pointed this out many times over the years when people want to argue how good of a wrestling state California is. They are good, but it is more a product of how large their population is verses how good their wrestling truly is.

Below is a list of 2023 NCAA DI qualifiers by state per 1 million in population with total qualifiers in parenthesis.

    1. Iowa 5.0 qualifiers per 1 million in population (16 total qualifiers)
    2. Pennsylvania 3.5 (46)
    3. Oklahoma 3.2 (13)
    4. Illinois 2.5 (32)
    5. New Jersey 2.5 (23)
    6. Minnesota 2.1 (12)
    7. Ohio 1.9 (22)
    8. Missouri 1.9 (12)
    9. Michigan 1.6 (16)
    10. Colorado 1.5 (9)
    11. Indiana 1.0 (7)
    12. New York 0.9 (18)
    13. California 0.5 (18)
    14. Florida 0.4 (9)

As you can see in 2023 while California had 18 qualifiers verses Indiana's 7,  Indiana did twice as good as California if you take into account population size.

California has a one class wrestling tournament - correct?

Given the size of California, that has got to be one of the toughest State Titles to earn.

Do you know the specifics about the tournament? Specifically, do they have wrestlebacks at all stages?
