Question about 1990 Seymour Semi-State

The winners of the 103lb and 112lb weight class are listed as "Disqualified". Does anyone know the story behind this?

103 lbs.: 1. Disqualified; 2. Steve Hofer, Franklin County; 3. Brandon Yates, Center Grove; 4. Jason Bowman, Martinsville,

 

112 lbs.: 1. Disqualified; 2. Chad Tisdale, Charlestown; 3. Randy Brawley, Martinsville; 4, William Anderson, Ben Davis,

I think this is a situation that has been discussed a few times on here, but here's all I could find at the moment.

 

 

 

From what I recall from other discussions about this, the 2 who were disqualified went to different schools and it was later discovered that they practiced together leading up to state.

Yeah that was a raw deal, the story I heard was, those guys didn't have any practice partners. I believe they started talking at regionals and got together. I remember one local (Evansville) coach saying if he were in their shoes rather than get get stripped of any awards he would conveniently "lose" those medals and ribbons. I was a 7th grader that year so that was a while ago, that's what I remember anyway.

That's exactly what happened.  They were the last ones standing from Southridge and Ev Harrison, so they practiced together.  When it came out that that happened, they were retroactively disqualified.
