tskin
As we all know returning champ in the same weight class has decided a #1 seed from time to time. I pray no sectional has any battles for the #1 seed where it comes down to this in 145lbs, 152lbs, and 160lbs. Due to the new weight classes the IHSAA has released that to be deemed a returning champ in the same weight you must have wrestled in the following weights last year.... ... In light of the fact that there are ten new weight classes, the following will apply for determining returning champion and runner-up for the current weight classes: 2011 2012 103 106 112 113 119 120 125 126 130 132 135 138 140 145 145 152 152 160 160 170 171 182 189 195 215 220 285 285 This is a corresponding weight class listing. Please plan accordingly. Robert E. Faulkens ... As you can see three of the 4 weights that remained the same will be getting somewhat of the shaft, So in essence you can be the ruturning champ in 45, 52, or 60 but not be the returning champ. lsk10135
Possibly could at Crawfordsville.
Loki27
If you are the returning champ and can't get to the finals as a 2 seed then that is one stacked sectional!
Y2CJ41
Maybe some common sense could be used by the coaches at the seeding meeting and that would prevent issues like that.
tskin
well I would hope but on seeding you have to go by winter bullitin. Honestly I think it would be rare it come into play but just the fact that is how the IHSAA decided to run with it was weird to me.
NICfan
If you are the returning champ and can't get to the finals as a 2 seed then that is one stacked sectional! or do to a messed up seeding meeting you have the best two wrestlers seeded 2 and 3 and then everything gets messed up
lsk10135
@ Crawfordsville, 2011's 130 Champ, 140 Champ, and 145 Champ all at 45 this year. None have seen each other and haven't lost to a common opp.
Walter Sobchak
NIC fan you are correct... someone comes in with a 10-1 record, no common oppenents and gets #1 seed and #2 and #3 seeds are really #1 and #2 seeds then the #2 could miss the finals. Somtimes in seeding meetings where coaches are emotional, common sense isn't common at all... AM I WRONG?!?!
tskin
lsk10135, looks like the 140 champ will be one seed since he is the "returning 145lbs champ"
Thornton
Maybe some common sense could be used by the coaches at the seeding meeting and that would prevent issues like that. Like 2 years ago when Brandon Wright was a #3 seed at his sectional behind Kieffer (legit since Kieffer won their 1st meeting), but behind a wrestler from another school (I'm not certain of the school so I won't comment) who had a better record, but had never been to state.
