  1. that's what happens when you get so many non wrestling people involved in a wrestling event. In a hurry to leave? Really, I look forward to this day every year, why would I want to be in a hurry for it to be over? People do have a tendency to be egocentric, like their wreslter's match is the only one that matters.
  2. I love the idea of qualifiers. For cadets and Juniors in high school any IHSAA semi-state qualifier gets automatic bid. For Schoolboy and Cadets still in middle school: Any IHSWCA state place winner get automatic bid. For all others it should be a top two finish at any local ISWA folkstyle tournament. That is one idea: Other idea for if ISWA really wanted to make more money is have four-eight Semi-State qualifiers around the state and take the top 4 or 5 from each age group and weight. Many more participants would be expected at four semi states that were closer to home for people. Driving over weighing in spending night (multiple if your a cadet) gets expensive for someone who is on the bubble of placement skill wise. Think how many more kids would participate if it were closer to home. Just an idea.
  3. Be more respectful of the things you have and don't forget where you came from. Many of you don't realize the growth of the ISWA folkstyle state. It has grown from a small tournament in a sports complex in Bloomington to the Mellancamp facility (with two restrooms)to a dungeon industrial warehouse with leaky port 'o pottys to Lawrence Central(jeeze that was a nightmare made space in a crowded subway look comfortable)to two different weekends at two different schools to what we have now. What we have now is by far the best. I only have one concern.Using Warren Central is fantastic, plenty of space and bathrooms ect.I'm worried that non respectful parents are going to ruin the ISWA's chance to continue to use the school.Warren like most High schools is a tobacco free campus. When I left on Saturday afternoon I noticed hundreds of cigarette butts laying on the ground outside the entrance. It appears to me as if the staff and students take pride in their school. If was the principal of Warren, that very well could be a deal breaker for me using my school. The ISWA does not always please everyone, but with over 2100 athletes along with their coaches and fans getting in and out of that place like it was done this weekend is a small miracle. So if we want to continue to keep using this facility, be respectful, pick up after yourself, dont scratch walls and break things, be careful and mindful that this is a public facility but the school corporation and administration staff has been kind enough to give the stamp of approval. We are only there 2 days of the year the students are there for 180 and they obviously have a nice facility to be proud of.

  5. My oh my, I can remember the very first Folkstyle state and I can remember the old "All juniors to staging area" system. Times have changed and times have changed for the better. Common complaints that the ISWA has fixed: 1. Too much wait time between matches: The complaint use to be we show up wait around for 6 hours and only wrestle 3-4 times. Now the complaint is not enough time? Jeeze get a grip, 15 min is plenty of recovery time for someone who truly is trying to win or place in a state level competition. 2. I never know where my wrestler will wrestle next, making is difficult to find a good viewing area and the viewing area is way too crowded: Fixed, same weight class on same mat all day, you never have to worry about being in the right spot. Also good for spectators who know the kids they want to watch. this is the one of the BEST improvements for our sport I've seen in 20 years. As far as injuries, I noticed very few considering the number of contestants (2100 I believe) and the number of bouts. I would hypothesize the wait time had next to nothing to do with the ones that happened.
  6. Note: USA wrestling not NCAA: So the reference is to National Champs in Fargo. Look Alaska only has 700,000 to choose from for partners, California has 37 mil.... doesn't seem fair to me.
  7. If the issue at hand is practice partners, maybe the IHSAA could amend the rule and allow schools with less than 1000 students combine practices. Would that help? The largest school has 4800 students: The rule could be that schools can combine practice so long as all schools practicing together do not have student population that adds up to more than 4800. So Yorktown (787) Delta (853) and Muncie Central (1698) could all practice together. That way there would be plenty of practice partners to go around.
  8. Should USA wrestling consider Classed National Championship for Junior and Cadet Age division: Divide States by Population: Class A States with More than 10 million People (Seven States) Class AA States with 2 million to 9 Million People ( 29 states) Class AAA States with Less than 2 Million people ( 15 including Wash D.C,) What are your thoughts on this. We could crown three national champions in each of the weights and age divisions. What about classing the Olympics according to a country's size? Three Olympic champions? Thoughts?
  9. Here's a thought: Class the sectional, regional and Semi-States. 4 classes 4 semi-states. You WIN your semi-state you're called a State Champion. those 16 kids are then qualified for the Tournament of Champions at Bankers life.
  10. It may actually work the reverse: think if every year we had match ups of kids who were returning state champs vs. kids who actually had a chance to beat them. A returning 1a state champ could very well be undefeated and be facing another 1a kid who is undefeated..... it could be billed as the next match of the century.... the possibilities are ENDLESS....am I wrong?
  11. He showed real Humility when he pushed Caldwell. His face was NOT straight or calm that day. We have a tendency to look for information that confirms what we already believe. We all have faults and should not be so quick to judge or criticize the actions of others.
  12. Just saying it would not take much longer to wrestle back to 5th place after quarters to get a true alternate.
  13. The IHSAA really needs to re think how they choose an alternate. 14 losses? Really, that's not right.
  14. What time do they let the public into Bankers life?
  15. Blind draw with the blind fold off....duh or blind draw but only one weight in the bag, come on Dude, there are ways. Do whats best for the sport, maybe if we flood the IHSAA with thousands of emails all week they will listen to the voice of the people. My buddies did not die face down in the muck so that someone would see a situation as so black and white and follow the "rules".
  16. Forth Wayne semi state will have at least one state champ. am I wrong?
  17. the problem is the IHSAA compares wrestling to other individual sports. They have been quoted as saying how many times do you get to lose and move on... track, swimming, cross country, tennis, and golf you lose and your done.... so they really don't have sympathy for the wrestling community and the wrestle back thing. I do know that the state finals got changed so that you can earn your spot for 5th, it use to be that the only way to get to go for 5th was you had to lose in the quarter finals to someone who made it to the finals. If you lost in quarters and then the person who beat you lost in semis best you could do was 7th.
  18. I don't think you'll get very many arguments for discussion. you're pretty much preaching to the choir. and beating a dead horse. But go ahead discuss all you want. I would be in favor of seeing them. am I wrong?
  19. What an original idea. But the powers to be have declared no wrestleback on Shabbas.
  20. Hey don't count out the panthers. They could win it with zero champs if it plays out the right way.
  21. I did know that, thats why I posted, but obviously someone else might not as you said only around the body... legs are different... do you need an anatomy lesson on the difference between a human and a fish? I love when you make that volcano out of the onion.
  22. Bennihanna sushi boy.... I think you may want to rethink your answer. Greco ref may be able to shed like on this situation, but I believe I am correct in saying that if the top man locks his hands around both legs to keep the bottom man down it is locking hands. Am I wrong?
  23. My upset pick here is Schoolcraft over Harris. Mark it Dude.
