Ancient Elder: Female state qualifier?

Tonight, at CIA, I saw a friend that I haven't seen for awhile...Mrs. Hildebrandt, mother of female wrestler, Sarah Hildebrandt. I mentioned to her that I felt there was a race on for the first female to ever qualify for the IHSAA state finals in INDY. Of course, I was only guessing and I couldn't locate my copy of the Ancient Elder's book so I was wondering...has there ever been a female qualify for our state finals? If so, has any ever placed?

After seeing Sarah Hildebrandt and Kayla Miracle wrestle, the race is ON for who will qualify for state next year...IMO, both could do it next season!!!

Do you really think both could do it next season?  I've never seen Kayla Miracle wrestle but I have seen Sarah Hildebrandt and I believe she has a legit shot but she'll also be a senior next season and will have toiled for three years at the h.s. level.  I think you're putting too much pressure on Ms. Miracle by putting her in this discussion.  Let her at least wrestle one season on varsity before you start putting such lofty expectations on her.

RELAX.

The statement was "COULD" do it next season...chill out. These two are not of couple of PIXIES here! Too much pressure? Give me a break! I know Mr. Miracle and Mrs. Hildebrandt would agree with setting lofty goals and working to reach them.

Save your caution for knitting class, not for these two fine wrestlers.

You have no idea how dangerous knitting class can be.  Those needles are pretty pointy.  I guess I see the value of flying under the radar.  Kids don't need some guy they probably don't even know putting a target on their backs.  BTW, I'm not really worked up about this subject but thanks for caring enough to tell me to relax.

To the contrary, I know both wrestlers and their families fairly well...but I appreciate your sentiments.  :)

I don't think Kayla or Sarah will be flying under anyone's radar not if you are in tune to what is going on with Indiana wrestling over the past years.

Evidence #1: Sarah was 1 match away from qualifying for state out of the M'ville SS.

Evidence #2: Kayla is a 10x state champion (I believe) in the ISWA and a Tulsa placer, anyone with this resume' (boy or girl) coming into high school is going to be an immediate threat!

Anyone who doesn't believe that these two have a chance in being the 1st female state qualifier in Indiana next year is in denial...and that's not a river in Africa! I wish them both the best of luck!  :)

It's a different ballgame once you get to h.s.  Kayla wrestled 91 at folkstyle state this year.  That means she's probably not going to be much heavier than little Brooks when he was a freshman when she starts the wrestling season next year.  Her resume, tho impressive, can't compare to Brooks and he didn't make it to state his freshman year (tho very close).  The weight and upper body strength she'll be giving up will be too much.  It will take her a couple of years to get it figured out  (much like Sarah).  I think it's cool to see a girl compete in wrestling so please don't take my next statement poorly but she has very little chance of making it to state next season.  Sarah, on the other hand has a great chance of making it but her time competing at the h.s. level has given her that chance.

You make a valid point, I would have to agree but I know for a fact that Kayla weighs much more now than Brooks did as a Freshman...having weighed much more than 84lbs a couple of weeks ago. I don't feel that she will be facing the same weight dilemma that young Brooks dealt with. If she stays at 103lbs for awhile, she will have no problem with strength, anyone that knows Kayla can attest to her strength.  It may take her a year or two but she was the first female to ever win middle school state and judging by the past winners of that tournament, it is not out of the realm of possibility for her to be the first female to qualify for our state finals.  It was done in Ilinois and other states so it's interesting to see IF or WHEN it is done here?  :)

She wont be able to stay at 103 too long considering this is most likely the last year for the weight class.

I was able to see some of her matches first hand at Middle School Duals and I have to say I was very impressed.    I feel for any wrestler who looks across the mat and says, "Oh, I got a girl" when they wrestle Kayla...

As for Sarah, she has proven herself at the high school level and has one more shot to be our states first female qualifier.
