Pug
Mark Taormina--From Ft. Wayne--not sure of the year--maybe 1985
xbrick132
Mark Taormina was from Leo High School and graduated in 1984. I wrestled him in the finals at 132lbs in '84. That was my guess also but I think it was either his Junior or Sophmore year.
TheAncientElder
IHSAA Trivia #80 Good guess! Mark placed 4th in 1982 at 132lbs, was an alternate (did not place) in ?83 at 132, and was 2nd in ?84 at 132. Good guess but wrong wrestler, wrong year and he did not place when he was the alternate. See the thread on the other board for the ?clues? or ?hints? that you are looking for. TheAncientElder (TAE) The Imperial Potentate and Grand Poobah of Classless wrestling in Indiana. At state he pinned Don Shook of Noblesville in the first round, lost to Bill Schultz (state champ) of Bellmont in the semi-finals by fall, and pinned Al Lambe of Bloomington South in the consolations. 177 Lbs. John Begley of Warren Central is the highest placing alternate ever in the state tournament. He placed second to Bob Krause of Bloomington North. When Tony Stadler of Pendleton Heights withdrew from the tournament he was the replacement. He decisioned Hiawatha Jenkins of South Bend Adams (11-5) in the first round, decisioned Chris Mahlan (state champ in 78 and 79) by a 5-4 count in the semi finals, and lost in the finals by an 8-3 count. TheAncientElder
D-train, Don't go there! Some of these mothers are/were very creative with names. TheAncientElder
regionrat1, dogboy is currently a spectator/parent at Center Grove HS. I will continue to be a spectator, but I have to tell you I am looking for the elevators. These bleachers are killing my knees. Sam just started his first year of wrestling. I will be about 90 when this kid is a senior. I think I will demand my position as an assistant coach if he makes it to Conseco.
