  2. Prayers going up from west central Indiana! Please let us know when the bracelets go up so that we can get some please!
  3. Coach Hicks email received and sent back! Randall will look into those! Thanks for the info!!
  4. How many coaches are involved?
  5. Bryant Haynes looked pretty good at IHSWCA this past weekend. Beat 10th ranked Jared Timberman in the championship match. You may be right he may be someone to at least watch!
  6. I have to say this is the first time that I have been around here for the high school season (my son is a freshman this year) and the first time I have bought the preseason mag. My son and I really enjoyed looking through the magazine and seeing a lot of names that we knew and many more that we don't know yet. I want to thank you for the hard work you do and just wanted to let you know that we appreciate all that you guys do! Keep up the great work!
  7. Sent an email. Let me know. Thanks much.
  8. Wasn't there a try at this many years ago? For some reason I'm remembering a raised mat being involved. Seems like it was in the late 80's or early 90's.
  9. The Terre Haute North Middle School team is looking for duals or weekend tournaments for the 2014 season. If you want to get together let us know. We may be able to host you or come to your place. Thanks everyone!
  10. I might be able to work something up for you guys in the way of a website. Give me a holler and we'll see what we can do together.
  11. Got to spend some time watching Scott this summer. He is a beast and has no give up in him. Really enjoyed watching him at Daytona and Fargo! He should be podium bound this year!
  12. You know I'm a forgiving guy, and no, no kid died from the incident, but at the same time it had been in the high 90's all day. The coaches told the kids early in the day they would lose 3 pounds just from the warm up they were going to do. So the coach was aware of the heat that was going on. To then take the kids out and have them do anything ON THE ASPHALT was idiotic at best don't you agree?
  13. Quick update I just received a call from Mike McCarthy with an explanation and an apology. We were missed because our son is quiet and didn't complain. Thanks to Mike and the coaching staff that put in the time and work to get this team to Fargo and all the extra they have to do while there! One coaches stupid move should not make us condemn the entire coaching staff these guys bust their tails so our kids can compete at this level!
  14. Yep, no contact at all from the coaching staff, team leader or the ISWA. My son is an incoming freshman and complains very little when it comes to a coach or staff of a wrestling team. Maybe they just missed us, maybe they didn't even know he had the injuries. I know they had my home number, cell number and email address. You have seen the pictures I posted, to explain what I was told by my son, the boys had completed their regular practices for the day and were going to go on a short team run. The temperature had been in the 90's all day, while one coach was supposed to lead them in the run something happened and he did not take them. Another coach took the team out for a run and stopped in a parking lot where the boys were told to do push ups, wheel barrel runs and bear crawls among other things on the hot asphalt. When I got to the Fargo Dome to watch the competition I observed several boys on the team with tape on their hands to cover the blisters on their hands. No rumors coming from me this is what I was told directly by more than one of the boys and observed with my own two eyes.
  15. Just a quick FYI as a parent of one of the boys I was only made aware of the situation by my son. No one from ISWA or the coaching staff contacted me about the "situation" before I got to, while I was at, or since I have returned from Fargo.
  16. Here is a couple of pics. hand.jpg was one day after the training incident on the left hand and hand1.jpg was from two days after on the right hand. My understanding was parking lot training early evening. http://www.lamamoto.com/hand.jpg http://www.lamamoto.com/hand1.jpg
  17. I am glad you had it as well. Like I said my son really wanted to wrestle in it. Put a middle weight class in next year and I'm sure he'll be there!! I thank you for stepping out and giving the kids another opportunity to wrestle in a style that they have not wrestled before. Thanks again. ;D
  18. The biggest problem we had was the tourney was between Disney Duals and Fargo. My 145 pound son wanted to go but without knowing the weight class he would be going I didn't want to throw him out there against a 285 pounder and end up hurt before Fargo. after looking at track it looks like he would have just missed the cut and would have had to wrestle in the heavy division. He was disappointed, but didn't want to chance it. If it fits in and you run it again next year I'm sure he will be looking at it. ;D
  19. Yeppers my boys birthday is Sep 24 so he has been an eighth grade cadet this year. quite honestly it is a bit of a disadvantage for ISWA anyway as he get 2-3 days of club practice a week instead of the 5 days high schoolers get + club practices if they go. Pays off I'm sure when he gets to high school, but makes for some frustrating matches against sophomore kids sometimes.
  20. I'm going to overstep my boundaries here a bit, but to me the real question is why would we even have to question whether an 8th grader could step into the spot? I have an 8th grader that would take the opportunity as well, but Indiana has plenty of junior kids, why can't we get enough to field this team? That is the problem that as a community we need to figure out how to fix.
  21. In my humble opinion the kids are what we should be worried about when it comes to cutting weight. We all know that there are coaches out there who push kids to cut weight for the "betterment" of the kid. I, for one, am of the mindset that kids should wrestle their "true weight" when at all possible. Cutting weight is a horrible part of this sport. when I wrestled back in the stone ages I was forced to either wrestle hwt weighing 225 or cutting to 185 to make the next weight down (showing my age lol). My son to this point has never cut more than 4 pounds to make a weight class that he had wrestled for the year. Yes he is just an incoming freshman, could he be a monster two weight classes down? Probably but I would rather he enjoy the sport and do well. (yes he is making the Daytona trip and fargo trip as a first year eighth grade cadet). Again just my opinion but we might see some more exciting matches if the kids weren't wrung out before they step on the mat.
  22. Where is the cut between lightweight and heavyweight?
