  1. A better guess for the Irish would be Harvey at 132lbs, Guhl at 195lbs, Burt at 220lbs, just to help Zach...
  2. Really excited about Rutgers and Maryland both joining the Big 10 in 2014, and it definitely played a role in his decision. He also visited and considered Maryland, IU, and North Dakota State, but loved Coach Goodale and the entire Rutgers staff. He actually had a chance to workout and wrestle with their current Hwt (a NCAA qualifier) and 197lbs while there. Really enjoyed the guys, campus, and only 30 minutes from NYC and the Jersey shore, and what 18 yr old kid wouldn't love that? Their plan is to redshirt Wes and then get him plenty of opens and matches as a redshirt freshman, and then as a sophomore hopefully he will be the guy!
  3. Congrats to another class of 2014 Indiana wrestler Wesley Bernard who has committed to wrestle at Rutgers University! Thanks to all the coaches who has played a role in his development and training, and a special thanks to coach Sean McGinley, Mo Gunn and the entire Cathedral staff, along with Eddie P and all the CIA coaches, and especially his uncle coach Matt Schoettle, and the PM staff who trained Wes until high school! You can see it took a village to train and build this wrestler, lol
  4. Wesley Bernard just made visits to Lehigh, University of Maryland, and Rutgers, he also has been to IU & Purdue, and with 1 more coach to meet with (North Dakota State) he has committed to making a commitment by July 4th. At this point Rutgers by far is where he is leaning, he absolutely loved the coaches, workout partners, and the campus, and he loved the fact that they will be part of the Big Ten by time he arrives.
  5. Maybe because the last time he wrestled at Hwt he got stuck by Winfield, and from what I've heard he is being recruited as a defensive end or outside linebacker in which I would guess they wouldn't want him any heavier than 240lbs I would think. I'm guessing he would be around 240lbs 2-3 weeks after the wrestling season would end, and to compete against the states best Hwt's I would think he would need to be at least around 260lbs..JMO Good luck to Gelen at whatever weight class he chooses!
  6. Not sure what point your trying to make, but what I'm saying is simply that too many of our local wrestlers aren't taking advantage of seeing some good wrestling at this local tourney!
  7. With the quality of wrestlers that come to Indianapolis for this event I'm amazed at the lack of local turn out. I understand that cost keeps kids from traveling to some of the quality tourneys around the country, but when that talent comes to your backyard and some of our good Indiana wrestlers decline to take advantage of it, then it is easy to understand why the national rankings do not have more Indiana wrestlers! I do think the kids who wrestle in these events and do well will tend to be the kids that will have success next wrestling season, and even for the kids who didn't do as well as they would have liked will be better and leap frog over a lot of others not taking advantage of a local event such as this. You simply get better wrestling better competition...Just My Opinion!
  8. If there were others then there weren't many, and they would have been mainly freshman.
  9. s Oh you'll know who he is when the season gets going, and agree he maybe should start off at #3 in the ranking but wouldn't be surprised if he wins it!
  10. I'm pretty certain the kids that are being mentioned would all be targeted as guys to watch with or without being mentioned in these post. It's a wrestling forum and what a crazy concept talking about ranked wrestlers on here, so lighten up Francis, lol
  11. Guhl 195lbs , Burt 220lbs & Bernard hwt all played football for Cathedral this past year...
  12. I think you meant tough, and once again that's not what you said. Enough said anyone that reads can see what was said, and this all started with you taking a shot at a school that produces well rounded educated young people, and the numbers speak for themselves. I do not hide behind a keyboard either, my name is Bob Bernard and I will be at Central Regional Saturday at LN, and ask most anyone who I am I'm pretty sure they can point you to me, and I'd be most interested in meeting you!
  13. That's why we wrestle the matches my friend....
  14. Way to back pedal my friend, but I think most that read your post would say you were taking a shot at their academics when you made your student athletes remark in quotes! You clearly then said you would argue that you could get better or as good at those other schools, and then in the next breath you said although those schools grad & college bound rates could not match Cathedral's, then Cathedral's stats should be even better then they are!!! Own what you said or shut your suk wrong is wrong brother...
  15. I could see Stewart at 152lbs and Corsaro at 160lbs for the Irish! Wouldn't that be murders row Stewart 152lbs, Corsaro 160lbs, and Rypel 170lbs? Some people have all 3 ranked #1! Now throw in Harvey and Bernard
  16. Bailey could be ranked, but nobody really knows Guhl and the fact that he was a freshman last year and wrestled at 220lbs, but will wrestle this year at his weight 195lbs instead of where he best helped the team should be huge for him. Just not sure about Turner, but I bet he may be before next year is done...
  17. Just compete and beat them and quit acting as if they are doing things that are against the rules or that nobody else does. Read the IHSAA Rules Book and tell me what rules they are braking. Its much easier to act as if they are doing something wrong, then to beat them, huh? By the way the Cathedral graduation rate is 99%& college bound grads 97%, and not one of the schools you've mention can match those numbers...Do your research before you open your suk :-X
  18. The Irish should have, the following all in their line up and all listed below could make it to state, with Corsaro & Bernard probable ranked Pre season #1 and Harvey, Rypel, and Stewart ranked in the top #3. Also I think Turner 113lbs & Guhl 195lbs both capable of going to state but their not as well known as the others... That will be a tough line up for anyone to match up with! Lil Bailey 106lbs John Devine 132lbs Ben Harvey 138lbs Brent Larson 145lbs Vinny Corsaro 152lbs Ben Stewart 160lbs Blake Rypel 170lbs Raja Burt 220lbs Wes Bernard Hwt
  19. Corsaro 5th,and Bernard 3rd both finish strong with wins, so Congrats boys, also Rypel takes 5th in Iowa so the IRISH alive and well so far with their spring wrestling... Look forward to seeing Harvey, Corsaro, and Bernard on the same roster at the scholastic duals next weekend....
  20. Corsaro wrestling for 5th with a loss to the #1 seed Law, which very well could had been a win getting a takedown at the buzzer that was called off, and the 2nd loss in OT...Bernard wrestling for 3rd with his only loss coming to a PA wrestler who is in the finals....Go IRISH
  21. I know Cathedral is sending Harvey, Corsaro, Bernard...Good luck to our Indiana Teams
  22. Sorry if I took your post out of context, but I think Cathedral has always had a bad rap on the recruiting subject, because as a private they have to advertise for students as does Park Tudor, International just to name a couple others. When your graduation rate is 99% of your student including athletes, and your college attending grads are at 98% I don't think your a problem in today's big picture of schools. Thanks for the kind words concerning my son, and yes he wants to wrestle in college, and some interest from both parties are from Purdue, Rutgers, Maryland, Northwestern, Navy and Indiana in no particular order.
  23. Great kid, Great family Ben & Angie), Great coaches! Congrats Cody stay hungry, and Wes and I wish you the best....
  24. It tells me plenty that when the IRISH beats up on Roncalli especially in football how you folks cry recruiting, but when you had your run on us you only heard great game. Do you understand the differrence between a private and non-private school is, and if so go find out where Park Tudor and International kids come from because they are not even close to all area kids. Yogi Farrell went to Park Tudor and his brother from the same home went to Perry Meridian, so is somebody recruiting or could it be a family choice. As a private school Cathedral has no boundries for students, Roncalli has between 11-13 Catholic feeder schools on the southside without another Catholic high school anywhere around, and I cannot name 1 public school that can say that so cry your river somewhere else.
  25. I went to Cathedral back in 1973 and my brother who is a coach at PM went to Cathedral so I have a little more than your 2.5 years invested at Cathedral so try a new excuse my friend!
