  1. My Dad is a retired Athletic Director. For tournament events, he paid every worker (except concessions which the Band worked to earn funds). News alert-- If you have volunteered to be a timer or scorekeeper for a Sectional or Regional, your Athletic Director is either clueless or taking advantage of your generosity because YOU SHOULD BE GETTING PAID. The host site is responsible for obtaining competent (adult...see below) scorers, timekeepers, etc & the cost for those tournament expenses is covered by the gate receipts or the IHSAA if there is a deficit. Here are some excerpts from: 2018‐19 Wrestling Tournament Series General Rules: The center school shall provide and be responsible for tickets, ticket takers/sellers, ushers, announcers, scorers, timekeepers, all necessary equipment for conducting the game or contest, necessary facilities for the competing teams and those directly affiliated with the competing teams (such as the principal, athletic director, coaches, student managers, etc.), facilities for spectators/fans and crowd control (hereinafter known as the local arrangements). Officials A. Bench officials, etc. are to be selected by the center principal and tourney director. Only qualified adult help shall be used as official scorekeepers and timers. Financial Terms A. Sectionals and Regionals 1. Tournament expenses such as officials, help, etc. shall be paid by the center school from the gross receipts. IHSAA shall reimburse center school when a deficit occurs.
  2. I just noticed that & started a new thread. It has to be wrong & surely the coaches/AD's will spot it quickly.
  3. 132 bracket at Perry Meridian is currently wrong. Gavin Rose placed 2nd at WC Sectional but suffered a nasty injury in the championship match & is not listed in the PM Regional bracket. Obviously, everyone below Rose (Defreese 3rd, Collier 4th, Godby 5th) moves up 1 spot. Currently, TrackWrestling has mistakenly put the 5th place qualifier (Godby-Franklin Central) directly into Rose's 2nd place position against Gel Ceja of Perry Meridian. He should be up against the Sectional champ from Southport, Alec Viduya of Roncalli.
  4. It looked like a bad injury. Unfortunately, it must be a bad one. Gavin Rose is not listed in the 132 bracket for the Perry Meridian regional. FC kid who placed 5th in the sectional will participate in his place.
  5. That's on the scorekeeper, ref & coach. Also, using "the scorekeeper may not be familiar with the rules" isn't a valid excuse. If the scorekeepers can't do the job right, then the site needs to find competent scorekeepers. If you petition to the IHSAA to host a sectional site, then you need to put good people in those spots.
  6. I worked tournaments as a scoreboard/clock operator a LONG time ago back when scorers kept track on cards & everyone gathered around the brackets when they were posted in the lobby. Yes, I am that old. The AD who ran those tourneys handled the PA & announced real-time results as matches ended. I acknowledge that my original post was too harsh & somewhat nit-picky. But I will stick to my guns on a couple topics. 1) PA system upstairs on the Mats 3-4 side was poor. As their sons were set to wrestle, I heard lots of families say "Where's he going to wrestle? I don't know" & then scramble to get a good view if it was on 3 or 4 because those mats were difficult to see from that side. 2) Since programs weren't ready around 8:30, I used my own printouts which did not have match #'s. So that's on me for being too lazy to go back down for a program. But I wouldn't expect a kid who should be warming up hard to follow along in a program or check his phone. That's what the PA is for. My best example of seeing a wrestler totally surprised that his Quarterfinals match was set to begin on Mat 2 was the 220-pounder for FC. It seemed like everyone wrestling at the time was around 170 but then it jumped up to his match at 220. I will acknowledge a couple items: - Keeping mat assignment structure is tough for Sectional with so many forfeits & quick pins. It's easier to stick to assignments at higher levels. - I did hear the PA guy direct everyone except coaches & managers with cameras to move away from the mats. Would have helped if someone on the floor enforced that as it kind of led to at least 1 cord pull. - Agree that the towel kids did great though there was a near-screwup in a close championship match. Stoppage & restart at 0:03 so the kid sat down. Ref started action but he & asst forgot there was only 3 seconds left & towel boy wasn't there. Wrestler on bottom kept going & got loose several seconds after the clock hit 0:00. Fortunately, the refs realized what happened & waved off an escape.
  7. Frankly, I was surprised that Warren Central struggled yesterday. While they had plenty of personnel on site, it wasn't well run: - extending delay in the middle of wrestlebacks -- I'm guessing the computer system went down - seemingly random moves to different mats & a lousy PA system making it difficult to hear who's up -- I saw several kids who had no idea that there match was up NOW. Watched one kid who was still in ALL of his warmup gear, had to find his headgear & then told to spit out his gum on the scorers table. - either I should get my hearing checked or they had NO SOUND at the end of periods & relied completely on kids to tap the refs (naturally, those kids can lose focus during such a long day) - poor use of mats at the end of early rounds -- they would shut down 1 of the mats with 2 or 3 more matches remaining at the other mats - no security to keep random fans off the main floor or to keep fans from standing at the balcony rails - timing & scoring equipment plugged into outlets that easily got knocked out by wrestlers, managers etc who tripped over the cords - no programs available until just before the 9am start I expected better from one of the biggest schools in the state & a top wrestling program.
  8. From IndyStar article: It wasn’t until the 132-pound bout where Warren Central’s perfect start was put in jeopardy. Greenfield-Central senior Gavin Rose led Warren Central’s Aundre Beatty 3-2 in the final period. But as Beatty knotted up the match with an escape late, Rose went down. For more than 10 minutes, trainers, coaches and support staff surrounded the senior wrestler as they stabilized his left ankle and helped get him off the mat in a wheelchair. Rose, who finished seventh in the state at 113 last season, came into the sectional finals match with a career-best 32-2 record. As he was wheeled out of Warren Central’s gym, the senior received a standing ovation. “He’s got the biggest heart of any kid I coached. It’s disappointing, but we’ve got to wait and see what the doctor says,” Greenfield-Central head coach Josh Holden said. “I know he was in pain but that doesn’t always mean you’re done. I think that was his fear and that’s why he was so emotional, he was just worried about next week. “He’s probably telling the doctors right now, ‘How do I wrestle next week?’”
  9. If you look at the seeds (located under Information-Auto Seeds), the kid from George Washington is now listed as 6th out of 6 wrestlers in 160.
  10. I have been away from the sport but regained interest this year. Sorry if this is dumb but I have a question about Wrestlebacks in the Sectional. Are these statements correct? In 8-team Sectionals, losers in the 1st Round/Quarterfinals still have a chance to place in the top 4 & advance thru Wrestlebacks. In those Sectionals with 9 or more teams, any wrestler who is drawn into a 1st Round/Round of 16 match & loses that match is completely eliminated from the tournament.
  11. Are the brackets shown at TrackWrestling final? Or can schools currently listed as 'Forfeit' enter a kid to wrestle in that spot?
  12. Never gone to this tournament but I plan on going this Saturday. Do they break the day up into multiple sessions or just go straight through? I imagine the day will start out slowly with a number of byes, forfeits, mismatches in the opening round.
  13. Yes, they SHOULD ALWAYS count the Bonus Points from Friday night. IHSAA program said 105.5 for Warren. I bet that next year's program will show Cathedral holds the record at 108. So you will have to take your case directly to the IHSAA.
  14. For the record, I am neutral. So please don't beat up the messenger. This is for all you Mathletes out there. *** Official Team Scores: Cathedral 108, Brownsburg 100.5 If the Melloh-Mulkey match went the other way, Brownsburg gets 2nd (12pts for 2nd+ 2pt advancement in that match) & assuming Cathedral gets 3rd (9pts for 3rd). Plus, Snyder wouldn't have gotten the 3-point team penalty. So BB gets 8 more points & Cath gets 5 fewer points. Hypothetical team scores: Cathedral 103, Brownsburg 108.5
  15. This year's IHSAA program says the record was 105.5 -- 2016 Warren Central. I just checked & Warren had 2 pins in that Friday session so the stupid no-Friday-night-bonus-points rule lowered the points from 109.5 to 105.5. And now Cathedral holds the record at 108.
  16. Real questionable call. By the time he slapped the mat, his right shoulder was up & the Peru kid was tilted. Refs need to make the SIMPLE calls instead of the super-close, split-second controversial calls in the final seconds of state semis.
  17. Whoa. Is that statement accurate? Can anyone else on the forum back that up? (Not doubting you, Oldtimer...I'm just curious.)
  18. I believe WC set the record in 2016 with 105.5 pts. After semis, it is Cath 100, BB 87, Col East 85.5 If the Melloh-Mulkey match went the other way (along with removing the 3pt coach flagrant misconduct penalty), the scores would currently be: BB 97, Cath 93, Col East 85.5 plus all 3 teams would each have 3 wrestling in the finals.
  19. So with the 3pt Flagrant Misconduct penalty, that's a 17 point swing. Brownsburg is out. Can Col East catch Cath? Doubtful.
  20. Coach Snyder has been thrown out for the rest of the day???
  21. 14pt swing in the team points. That match will probably end up winning the team title for Cathedral.
  22. Team Scores 1. Brownsburg 100 2. Chesterton 80 3. Cathedral 67.5 4. Yorktown 67 5. Portage 54 6. Hobart 49 7. Columbus East 47 8. Monrovia 42 9. Mater Dei 40.5 10. Perry Meridian 40 11. Avon 39 If Activity Points from Friday's matches weren't removed by the IHSAA rule, teams would flip-flop at several positions: 3rd-4th, 8th-9th, 10th-11th. 1. Brownsburg 103.5 (+3.5) 2. Chesterton 86 (+6) 3. Yorktown 71 (+4) 4. Cathedral 69.5 (+2) 5. Portage 57 (+3) 6. Hobart 52 (+3) 7. Columbus East 50 (+3) 8. Mater Dei 44 (+3.5) 9. Monrovia 43 (+1) 10. Avon 42.5 (+3.5) 11. Perry Meridian 42 (+2)
  23. Brownsburg hasn't clinched it mathematically but it would take a miracle to catch them. BB has a legit shot at breaking the all-time scoring record set by WC last year. They will become the 5th different champion since the team state title returned to this format 5 years ago. Nice showing by the region with Chesterton 2nd, Portage 5th, Hobart 6th right now.
  24. Where do you see those detailed deductions on TrackWrestling? I don't see those details (but I am not a paid subscriber either). Based on a quick review of Team Scores, it looks like these teams are incorrect. Bellmont - 3 wrestlers advanced. Site shows 10 points, should be 9 points-- won by major at 170 but the Event Director has not posted the 1 point deduction. Lawrenceburg - 2 advanced. Site shows 4 points, should be 6 points-- won by pin at 220 but the Event Director apparently posted a duplicate 2 point deduction. Laf Harrison - 1 advanced. Site shows 5 points, should be 3 points-- won by pin at 220 & the Event Director apparently posted this 2 point deduction to Lawrenceburg instead of Laf Harrison (those wrestlers are in the same bracket).
  25. http://www.ihsaa.org/Portals/0/ihsaa/documents/quick%20resources/winter%20Bulletin.pdf I found this at the top of page 82 of the IHSAA Winter Bulletin. Based on the last sentence below, it certainly appears that TrackWrestling is correct and that ZERO Team Points will be awarded for Pins/TechFalls/Majors in tonight's opening round. VII Scoring Individual and team scoring shall be decided according to Rule 9 in the current Wrestling Rules. Six places shall be awarded at the sectional. Team scoring in the sectional shall begin at the quarter‐finals level and not before. Only four places shall be awarded at the regional and semi‐state levels. Scoring at the Regional, and Semi‐State level will begin at the round of eight. Team scoring at the State meet will begin during the opening round with advancement points. Is this a change from the scoring used for past State Finals tournaments? Granted, I'm just a fan but it seems like a strange decision to me. There are no byes or forfeits & no easy matches at this level. In my opinion, if you pin any opponent in the State Finals, you earned those bonus points-- whether that occurs on Friday or Saturday shouldn't matter.
