  1. How did the OT in the Johnson/Harvey match go down? It is cut off at the end of the broadcast.
  2. Po...you are correct. There was no head-to-head between Mullins and Kirk Johnson. Mullins gassed out against Montrail Johnson in OT at NCSS. KJ beat Montrail in the finals convincingly. At State, Mullins handled Reece LeFever (whom, himself has had some national-level success) 3-0, although Mullins was in control throughout the match, in semis. LeFever beat KJ by 3 or 4, I think, in the match for 3rd place.
  3. LOL. Great response...glad you didn't take it personally! wahoo for you.
  4. It's been established that Tsirtsis is a given at #1....Everyone else is breaking it down to include other worthy wrestlers. Your question was "who would be favored at a higher weight?" That was my answer. You could have just hit the quote button, and typed in " I agree." Rather, than saying the same thing I did, just taking 4x longer to do it. :
  5. Jackson would be favored @ 145 if anybody other than a rare talent like Tsirtsis was there. So, I think an exception has to be made. Also, I think Mullins would be the favorite @ 160.
  6. I don't see the same matchup happening twice. 170 & 160 at NCSS are absolute minefields. Irick is very, very good (I noticed him @ semi-state in '10 initially). However, don't underestimate Decker and Massengale. Then, when you throw Mappes, Bowman, Quiroz, et al, into the mix at Bankers Life, I don't think we get a repeat performance. Should be fun to watch.
  7. Yes, it is. In his final match, the last 2 periods his opponent looked like a ski jumper the way he was leaning forward but keeping his hands by his sides. After the first period, he knew he wouldn't get them back if Patacsil got a hold of them.
  8. Exactly, this year it seems there will be much more maneuvering than in recent years. Almost every weight class 170 and under could see some late-season changes. It will be interesting to see how all of those 120 & 126 lb. studs choose to position themselves. Should make for a great show at Bankers Life.
  9. Since everyone else is picking their horse in this race; I'll take Bernard.
  10. Here's my rundown, per your request. 106: Boston dec. Micic 3-0 NC (loved watching Micic at State last year-you may be right...but only 3 pts either way) 113: Brooks dec. James 3-3 (Haven't seen James, but sounds like the real deal-edge to Lil Brooks on experience and being tough as nails) 120: Todd dec. Petrov 6-3 NC (Petrov's great, won't get majored because he is so technical-however one wrong move and Todd's strength could lead to a fall) 126: Ayersman dec. Phillips 6-6 (Actually, I prefer a rematch of last year's final with Campbell) 132: McKinley maj. Forte 10-6 NC (Haven't seen Forte--therefore, a compromise between dec. and fall) 138: Bova dec. Hartman 13-6 NC (Impressed with Hartman's mat smarts at state last year) 145: Tsirtsis fall Corsaro 13-12 ( Maybe Corsaro's length can keep him off his back?) 152: Mullins fall Brown 19-12 NC (Mullins' strength and skills get the bonus points) 160: Johnson dec. Logan 22-12 NC (Haven't seen Logan, so giving him benefit of doubt here; though I think Johnson could get bonus pts.) 170: Willis fall Crocker 28-12 NC ( Willis quick, strong and technical, haven't seen Crocker but doubt he can avoid bonus pts.) 182: Lynde maj. Schaeffer 28-16 NC (Haven't seen Schaeffer-will give the bonus pt on Lynde's resume alone) 195: Sliga maj. Berry 32-16 NC (Sliga's quickness and technical ability gets bonus here, if not the fall) 220: Kral dec. Kenny 32-19 NC (TBH don't know much about either-so I won't counter your prediction) 285: Bernard dec. Hall 35-19 NC (Impressed with Bernard's athleticism before last year's injury, he wins this one.)
  11. No bonus points for Todd, McKinley, Mullins, Johnson, Willis, or Sliga? NCSS wins by a dozen at least.
  12. Criteria is plural. It should read, "Bellmont wins on the eighth criterion." ;D
  13. Did they face each other in the Broncho Duals last year? If so, how did that match go?
  14. exactly right, mtv. The first couple of years the top 2-3 teams at each level probably would not change. Those next 5-6 is where the real advances are made. When those teams make the state quarterfinals in their class, it creates excitement in the towns and school districts, which drive the participants to improve and strive toward a title. Eventually, the traditional power teams are really challenged to stay at the top. By-products of this process are more interest in, and better quality of wrestling overall.
  15. Classing the team title would undoubtedly be a good thing for wrestling. I have witnessed, firsthand, a community rally around a softball team on their road to a 2A state title. That team probably wouldn't have been able to compete for an unclassed title. The town citzenry got excited when word got out that the local team could win a state championship. I'd bet there are alot of little girls in our area that got introduced to and developed a desire to excel in softball, that otherwise would not have. The same thing could happen with wrestling.
  16. He would then lose the revenue for the school and program. Why do that when you have the fieldhouse?
  17. Bash....that unwritten rule I mentioned goes beyond sports as well. It is in place because more harm than good is generally done to that activity, when the rule is ignored. Those that care about the game ( a point I made earlier in the thread) are better served by refraining from such worthless banter. It just makes for bad public perception for everyone involved. It boils down to tact and respect (for the 100th time), that's all.
  18. That's the point, Bash! He commented on the individual young men. He could've said something to the effect of "New Castle has 3 kids on the list but their competition is suspect." That alone would've been tacky (every year at the finals, kids come from all over with stellar records that almost everyone assigns to a lack of top-tier competition; but people with tact have enough RESPECT for the competitors, to not voice those thoughts publicly), but he didn't stop there. He then made the remark about "Peck seems to build his schedule to inflate records." He has eliminated happenstance at that point, and crossed over into pretending to know the Coach's intent. He broke an unwritten law among true sportsmen (some things you have to accept and one shouldn't attack the character of those who have reached the highest levels of the sport). Then he proceeded to list the kids' names as a means to validate his worthless statement. Read the entire thread, facts were never called into question. It's not possible for me to reason with someone on this matter, that just doesn't understand the tact and respect aspect of things. You either get it or you don't, and obviously you don't. This is my last comment on the subject. Step down...next case.
  19. Considering Peck is atop the win list, it isn't much of a leap to say RG was implying he doesn't deserve that honor, and only has it by using questionable scheduling tactics. That is highly critical of character. I'm sad for you that you can't comprehend that, but at the same time thankful that you proved my point. Most people understand if NC is hosting supers, they would be unavailable to travel those weekends. RG's and other's' comments imply that Peck and his kids "dodge" the highest competition. I think Peck would welcome all comers to those duals. On a win percentage of all matches in the state finals...I'm guessing NC's records would compare favorably to any other program's. To split hairs about not reaching the ultimate pinnacle, is extremely petty. Especially, when you downplay great kids' achievements to do it.
  20. "Peck seems to build his schedule to inflate records," is not criticizing his character? You must be about as sharp as a marble. Peck has the best wrestling venue in the state. He uses it to host super-duals, probably because they produce revenue for his school and program (it also places more work and responsibilities on his shoulders) . Also, I'm speculating he does so, in order to provide his kids with as many matches as the IHSAA allows, to give them ample opportunity to improve. I don't know who RG is or what school's wrestlers he supports, but, I wonder if his team's coach is calling NC's AD to get in on those super-duals and have their wrestlers face the likes of those young men whose accomplishments he belittled. I want to offer RG my congratulations on having an administrator "buddy" to replenish his cool points after he makes such idiotic remarks. To the uninitiated and himself, I'm sure that makes him appear cool. :
  21. Well said, Jay! At least someone has their priorities straight.
  22. Anyone else notice that his coach was dippin', and wearing blue jeans in the corner?
  23. This tragedy makes everything we discuss on here, seem so trivial. Lord, please watch over this family and give them the strength to carry on.
  24. It's not the accuracy of his comment...it's the tackiness and lack of respect. If one has been a champion in a sport (which someone said RG has), and one supposedly cares about that sport (which he must, in order to devote the time to his rankings); then he should possess enough tact and respect for others that are advancing the sport and performing well in the sport, to refrain from such pointed commentary. As an adult, even just a tinge of class should prevent him from downplaying any kid's achievements. So, to do so when it involves a Hall of Fame coach and a couple of the state's most-decorated wrestlers, displays a total lack of cooth. Even if Coach Peck was Indiana's losingest coach, rather than the state's winningest...he deserves the respect for spending time trying to improve young men's lives. All of the wrestlers, whether accomplished, or JV, deserve respect for the effort and dedication. >
