  1. I think you've been fed a line of hogwash. How can an official always be in front of wrestlers to award points? It also used to say in the rule book that the official shall use a visual hand count when possible. That just means if can, he will. However, he can start the nearfall count mentally while getting into a better position. Think I'll get a copy of the state finals and see how many times officials are in front wrestlers when they award points.
  2. They used to tell us old officials that reaction time can be from a split second up to 2 seconds. It depends on the situation. Does the rule book say something different about it now? And I'm not sure "a very high ranking ref" should be questioning another ref without knowing all the facts. If he didn't talk to the mat official, then he most certainly didn't know all the facts.
  3. Whose rule book are you reading? Where does it say a ref has to be in front of the wrestlers to award anything? If that were true, only about half of the points that were earned would ever be awarded. And who reminded the ref of that after the match? Apparently, Southern Mole was at the table and heard what happened. Can you say the same thing?
  4. Stupid it may be but it's still the rule. Our coach was suspended for the conference tournament this year for a weight loss issue. A previous coach was suspended for a meet for allowing a former wrestler to come back over Winter Break and attend a practice.
  5. What do you want to bet the IHSAA would squelch this idea. I agree; keeping score the old way and announcing it every so often made for more fun viewing. I'd be surprised if they would let it happen.
  6. The young man certainly has the potential to do so. Good luck to him next year.
  7. I'm not sure an inanimate object, "the draw", can "cheat". Cheating implies knowingly doing something against the rules. Not sure that can happen. Lots of wrestlers get unfortunate draws. And that's what this may have been: unfortunate but not cheating.
  8. LOL.....sorry, but Sam didn't pin all of his opponents. There was a wrestler from Mater Dei (? Rust) that Sam beat on points in the sectional finals. Sam had an outstanding match against defending state champ Steve Kinser from Bloomington South in the regional semifinals that ended on points, too. I'm pretty sure he pinned all the others, though, including Rust in regional finals. The person he pinned in state finals was Dave Walpole who went on to coach Decatur Central.
  9. Jose Felciano.....and he can't see anything.......now light his fire.....
  10. LOL.....at last, we agree on something......and I hope I never grow up and take myself tooooo seriously
  11. Geez.....if you're gonna say something like that, at least you could spell my name right.... ;D
  12. Bummer.....story of my life......the one event I thought I could hold my own in and it's the wrong kind of curls......
  13. I agree....the young lady who sang it at the E'ville semistate sent chills up my spine.
  14. True. My post didn't say he didn't have control. It said he didn't know he had control. I was replying to the post that said "he cant be called for locking if he doesnt know whether or not he has the take down". Just because he didn't KNOW he had control doesn't mean he can't be called for locked hands. If he has control, he's in the top position.
  15. I'm betting THIS will elicit more than one reply......
  16. I agree.....the young man has a lot to be proud of. 4th in the state at 215 for a soph. is fantastic. Good luck to him next year.
  17. That's ridiculous. Sure he can. Just because he doesn't know he had control doesn't mean he can't commit a penalty.
  18. We talking 12 oz. curls here? If so, how can I get to be part of the team........ ;D
  19. by that logic, the refs should pick and choose when they enforce the rules. Don't call some rules when a match is about to go into overtime. Never mind that full nelson or stalling or slam. Let them wrestle it out in overtime. Oh, wait a minute. Stalling calls are on another thread. My bad.
  20. Not the same official as at Mater Dei. There goes that theory. Yes, the official that had the match was at MD but he did not have the match where Knura went ballistic. The locked hands rule states (I'm assuming the rule hasn't changed since the last time I read it) that the offensive wrestler may not lock his hands around the body or BOTH legs when the defensive wrestler has more than two supporting points on the mat. That's what happened. If YOU were the coach of a defensive wrestler in that position, wouldn't YOU want it called?
  21. I remember a time eons ago (back in the late 70's or early 80's) where a rule said if the score at the end of the 1st period was 0-0, you HAD to warn one of thewrestlers for stalling. Don't think that caused a bit of controversy, do you?
  22. Congratulations to MR. Stein, Jim, Clay, Scott, and Drake's dad. It was great to see him run over to the press section and hug his father after the match. Hope you can get you another one next year. Just goes to show you that a stud can overcome coaching........ ;D ;D ;D KIDDINGKIDDINGKIDDINGKIDDINGKIDDINGKIDDINGKIDDINGKIDDINGKIDDINGKIDDINGKIDDINGKIDDING
  23. LOL.....somebody's wanting to start an arguement.....
  24. You don't get advancement points for the final championship or 3rd place matches so I'm guessing it would be the same. I would assume (I know that's dangerous) that there is 1 advancement pt. given for the wrestleback matches where the winners go into the final 5th place match and the losers go to the final 7th place match. No advancement point would be given for the final 5th and 7th place matches. Bonus pts., yes, but no advancement point.
