  1. Hopefully we can add Drake Stein to this list. I am sure he will have more wins than anyone. (I think he is close to Leeks record right now) I would say Greer right now but if Drake can defend his title he will be the best in PCHS history.
  2. I do not think they have faced each other since 2008. It would be the rubber match between these 2. Drake beat Anthony at the Al Smith that year but lost to him at the state finals.
  3. Just wanted to congratulate Drake on his big win Saturday! Drake is the 1st state champion since 1998 when Josh Hardy won back to back titles at 171lbs. Congrats also to Coach Maglis and Coach Leek! You guys do an awesome job! Enjoy the win guys! Congrats to all other state champions, runner ups, placers & qualifiers! You all should be proud of what you have accomplished! A dream for most, a reality for YOU!
  4. Knight, stay retired.... None of your people have touched Stein the last 2 years and maybe 3 (Not sure of the freshman year). Welch twins seem to have a lot of respect for him as I see them chatting during warm ups a lot of the time. Stein winning does not mean it was a down year, beat a 2 time state finalist and state champion!
  5. AWESOME! Congrats to Drake!!! WTG.... Way to go out Coach Maglis!
  6. There may be a couple guys down in the southern part of the state that may give Duck all he wants! Go get em Stein!! I think Weiss will give him all he wants as well!
  7. Yes I sen the nod and grin once Weiss made the escape in the 7th period at the regional. I will say that Drake & Jeff have the upmost respect for each other. I see them talking throughout the day frequently and seen them warm up together last year at SS. This battle was a good one last year at 152 and has even turned more intense this year at 171. I want to see Drake bring home the title this year but if for some reason he does not Jeff better have the hardware! I do not know Jeff personally but he seems to respect his opponents and the sport and that means a lot to a guy who takes his young kids to these events. My oldest son mentioned to me several times today about kids throwing headgear, rails and trying to fight on the mat. I told him if he ever tries that he will never see a mat again. Win with grace, lose with grace..... Someone out there is BETTER than you no matter how good you think you are! (Words from my father when I was younger) JW
  8. Thanks, couldn't remember the school. Very impressed with his actions both in victory and in his only defeat. Need more like him in all sports!
  9. 1st of all, What an awesome display of wrestling today in Evansville! Congrats to those who have moved on to state, and congrats to those who qualified for SS but was unfortunate not to move on today! You all should be proud of your accomplishments!! Just a few of my opinions about some of the kids: Cody Kendall what can you say? Beats Kief in the ticket round and then pins the previously undefeated Kuhn. Amazing day for this young man. Kief: I seen the incident, do not want to speculate but NOTHING said would of made me act that way!! You are a bright young man with a tremendous future in the sport you love. Keep your head up! Welch's (Include Luke!) You guys are the best I have seen on top! One gives up 1 point to Simms the other has pin and 2 Tech Falls before handling Richey Ritchey, WOW that is all I can say..... this kid is BIG! Josh Sampson 145lber (edgewood maybe? Mustangs) this kid was the ultimate class act, showed respect for his opponents after a victory and congratulated the Welch after defeat. Helped everyone up off the mat every match I watched. Ultimate Sportsman! Stein & Weiss IV Stein ties series 2-2. Only losses by each wrestler by the hands of the other. These guys know each other in and out and show great sportsmanship every step of the way. All in all a good day even though only one of my Tigers have moved on (Best of luck to the WHOLE Evansville SS next week in INDY!) JW
  10. I would venture to say Stein beat him 9-2 at the Al Smith in Mishawaka. I think he ended up with 12 losses after McMurray beat him for the 6th time.
  11. Weikel wins in OT... No WAY!
  12. I have been reborn...... They call me Holmes, Johnny Holmes!
  13. Not saying Stein would of won, but he did take Anthony down rather easily in the 1st and did beat him 9-2 in December. There was no doubt if Stein breaks out and gets the 1 point we would of had a hell of a match on our hands. Like I said Anthony was very impressive for a Freshman as well as Drake being a Sophomore. I look for both to return next season for sure!
  14. Explain this to me so I can understand then Twisted... Did they give Quiroz 2 back points after the injury? Quiroz started down in the 2nd period and had a reversal and 3 back points when Stein was injured. Stein did not escape or the score would of been 5-3 correct? How can Quiroz get 2 ponts for a takedown when Drake never escaped? None the less the kid won the match by default. I would venture to say dropping a kid on head is not a safe return to the mat which is in the rule book, but I am not the ref. Best of luck to both Anthony and Drake next year. Hopefully these mystery points don't appear next match!
