  1. That is an excellent point. Today I was reading a thread, I believe it was the one discussing Bobby Cox, and someone must've said that 5 or 6x. Of course what do I care, I don't have a dog in this fight!...ooops
  2. I've stepped away from HS coaching, but it seems every corporation has a different policy on this situation. I know there have been many times our administration said "No!" to practice when a few miles away they were practicing. We've had kids get together at a local gym to workout, but NOBODY associated with the program could be present. If a parent(s) supervised then it wasn't violating corporation policy. I hate to see that happen to anybody.
  3. WOW!!!Great job Drake Stein....I was a little ashamed of the lack of TV coverage by the local stations....but who cares. A great tradition at this wt. for Princeton Community: John Boes (2x runner-up), Josh Hardy (2x champ). Great prep. Jimmy M. and Clay L....you two had him ready. JB
  4. Now that is funny!!! Well...maybe were not talking about the same toy...but it's still funny! JB
  5. I think there are many examples of Mater Dei kids who were JV until their Senior year, and then had a great Senior year. The Mallory kid is a great example, but what about one of the Mayers. Was it Joe that took over late in the season? The Sheu boy got hurt and I think another Mayer named Nick took over for him and finished well. Help me out MD fans!
  6. Yes...he died in a car accident...I believe. He spent a few weekends at my home in Ft. Branch with D.J.! He was a very fun loving kid. I'm not going to comment on the incident, but outside of that 1 event I only saw a very couteous young man who could eat the heck out of spaghetti.
  7. That's funny Tom! Fantastic job at Eville SS this year...as usual! I am just glad the officials didn't start putting quotes from coaches on here in that one thread. Someone asked me about this on Saturday when I told an older, a little slower official who was reffing at Castle Inv. and wouldn't visual count near-fall then...BAM...he would award it. I asked and he said that he just counted it in his head...I told him that I didn't think he could count to five without using a visual aide...uhhh..-1 team point Gibson Southern. LOL
  8. MatChick: Aaron helped me one year at Gibson Southern with MSchool some. What a great young man. I called him once this past summer about something and left him a message claiming to be Alex Tsirtsis...I can't tell you his response on here when he called me back though...LOL! JB
  9. Thanks for the pm and clarification on that Spider. Anybody that knows me knows that I am going to defend my brother. The bad thing about e-mails, texting, etc...you can sometimes miss the humor or sarcasm intended. And I forgot that Chuckles was a moderator! XCard: REFEREE are you kidding...I'm like spider on that one...there's not enough money! I was the Head Coach at Gibson Southern until this year. Notorious for being hard on officials...lol! A second official is worthless if they're not in position...which should always be opposite of the other official. I think that too often the 2nd is cautious about making a call for various reasons: ie. afraid it makes the other official look bad or maybe they're just sleeping (jk stripers)!! I do think that seniority plays a role sometimes. A younger official is not as quick to offer his opinion to a more experienced official. JB
  10. Good point by samaj: I thought it was a very well officiated SS at Eville! There were some very young officials, but they did a stellar job with some very intimidating coaches...lol! Ditto on...a well officiated match is the one when you think back and cannot remember who the official was.
  11. Spider monkey: If you're going to goes as far as insult someone who does wear the stripes by name you should at least show enough intestinal fortitude to not hide behind a screen name. Dr. John Barnett I see that the moderators took your indiscretion off before I posted. Thank you Y2
  12. Hey...I have some of those goggles too!
  13. WOW! Great day and Castle with 4 champs.
  14. BB145: Am I missing 1? I know they had a great day but wasn't it 4 champs and a 4th? 5? I wish it was 6 because I wanted to see Wikel get through...I've enjoyed watching him wrestle.
  15. Bluebolt: I counted 23 maybe either of us is wrong, but regardless...great day for Castle Regional!! JB
  16. I was right there and saw the whole incident. Don't know what was said for sure, but I've been around long enough to not make a judgement on a kid's life expectancy on his competiveness and desire to win. Bob teaches his kids to wrestle hard! Stan (Pike's coach) has a jewel in Kendall. He had a great day and beat 2 dynamite kids in Kief and Kuhn. It did get out of hand a bit, but Kief will be back...as will Kendall. Congrats to Cody!! And Kief...I'm sure he'll learn from this and be back better than ever next year. Just one man's opinion and don't mean to piss anyone off. JB
  17. If I would've known it was all this I wouldn't have asked. I didn't get to see the Regional this year first time since 88. I was at a singing competition with my youngest daughter, and no...I wasn't singing she was. LOL WOW! Sgt. Major Seward..that is cool. Could you imagine telling LaRock..."no you didn't get the promotion!" jb
  18. Hey GW...how you doing? I know I wrestled for the USMC prior to you enlisting, but either Wetzel or Seward told us about one Marine wrestler that they would tie a string on his ankle to one of their ankles so if he got up in the middle of the night it would wake them. He supposedly had a history of getting up in his sleep and power drinking some water and then not recall it the next morning. It was probably one of them two...lol! John Barnett
  19. See how music always calms the soul! Now for a verse of Kum By Ya! JB
  20. ROTFLMAO!!! Yeah...the Kinks were playing I believe.
  21. I tried to post earlier and it didn't go...now I'm glad so I could comment Bob. Anybody that knows you Bob knows that your integrity is without question. I've been involved with wrestling forever it seems and I've never heard of such a thing. And like you said...111 other kids didn't have a problem with either scales. Plus...tampering with the scale? That's ludicrous! That would take someone from Warrick County that heads the Dept. of Weights and Measures and any tampering from anyone else would VOID the scales certification. I don't see how someone could try and swing blame towards Castle. Man...I would've blown my top...or a heart valve anyway...especially since it pulled a GS kid into the ordeal. John Barnett P.S. Same goes for you nutsdad! I've always thought you and your son are both classy individuals. Best of Luck next week and beyond
  22. Heard there was a big dilemma with Reitz protesting that the scales had been tampered with?
  23. I think Gillespie just celebrated his 101st birthday while officiating the Castle Invite for the 38th consecutive year.
