  1. The biggest problem with your suggestion is the ISWA folkstyle season runs approximately the same time as middle school. That creates a problem for Novice Schoolboy and Cadet wrestlers to qualify.
  2. I am confused. The ISWA used matside pairings, bout numbers, etc. and finished a 980 competitors tournament in approximately 10 hours. One of the weight classes I paired had 37 wrestlers in it. The only down time was waiting two times for the film crew to show up to tape the final match and, at the very end, a 15 minute rest time for the wrestlers between bouts. I worked the entire day and only had one parent complain. During that time, I had 2 bathroom breaks and no food. By the way, I'm not sure what tournament director you spoke with but for the last 3 years, the ISWA tournament director has been Patt Van Horn (not a man). To say that the ISWA does not listen to suggestions is an unfair statement. They do listen and changes were made this year to help with the flow of the tournament.
  3. Wrestling will take place in both the fieldhouse and the gym. The gym holds 2500 spectators. Yes, it will be close for spectators in the fieldhouse but with only 10 mats in the fieldhouse and 6 in the gym there will be more room for spectators.
  4. The ISWA had every intention of this being a 2 day event, as in 2010. The problem they encountered was, that after they committed to Ben Davis, their AD announced that no one could have use of the facility on Sunday....Saturday only. That decision pretty much dictated that they host it all on one day. No one is happy about it. Personally, I would rather take a beating. However, sometimes you have to play the cards you are dealt. It is my understanding that the powers that be, at Ben Davis, have changed their mind and in 2012 the facility will again be available on both Saturday and Sunday so the ISWA will be able to split the age divisions as in 2010. As for a bigger facility, I know the ISWA has searched everywhere. There is no middle ground. The Fairgrounds West Pavilion would be the only really affordable option (approximately $22,000 for 2 days) but it is not available in March. Everything else with adequate seating is either too small for 16 mats or totally out of the price range the ISWA can afford. You can't just tally up entry fees and spectator fees and say.....mmmm, alot of money. That is gross profit. There are numerous expenses: referees, hotel rooms, hospitality, awards, mats, trackwrestling, etc. Also, Ben Davis is not free. That is kind of like saying. gee you make 80,000 a year, why can't you afford a 3,000 house payment. Sorry! I always try to remain all business but some comments just get the best of me.
  5. To the best of my knowledge, the ISWA has never provided a check scale at Kids State Finals.
  6. If you have a current 2010-2011 USA Wrestling Coach's membership card (not a copper or bronze card), you will be admitted into all ISWA State Final events free of charge. If your copper or bronze certification appears on your coaches card you do not need your copper/bronze card. You will, however, need to show your picture ID. If you do not have a coaches membership card you will need to produce your copper or broze certification card and a picture ID in order to be at matside.

  9. Great Post.....one of the best I have ever read on this site.
  10. Lawrence Central used trackwrestling. The results should be there.
  11. Results are located on the home page directly under News & Updates which reads as follows: CONGRATULATIONS TO AVON WRESTLING CLUB WINNER OF THE 2011 ISWA ELEMENTARY DUAL TEAM STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. For Detailed Results.......Click Here
  12. Congratulations to Avon Wrestling Club, winner of the 2011 ISWA Elementaty Dual Team State Championships. It was a great tournament and enjoyable to watch our young wrestlers compete in this format. Detailed results have been posted on the ISWA web site. www.iswa.com[/url]
  13. The typo on the front cover of the book is entirely my fault and I sincerely apologize to the wrestling community for the error. I feel terrible about it. The typo was caught but the front covers had already been printed and the printing company said it would cost an additional $2000 to re-run the front cover and would cause a delay in the printing and mailing of the publication. I agonized over the decision but in the end decided to go with the book as is rather than spend the kids money to correct it and create a delay in mailing. In retrospect, maybe I made the wrong decision. Please do not place blame on others in the organization as the book is solely my work and my responsibility. Again, I sincerely apologize for the embarrasment I caused. :'( Sharon Dowden

  15. The ISWA will implement matside pairing at both 2011 Folkstyle State Final events. They are also working on ways to use matside pairing at FS & GR State. However, FS & GR are a little more difficult using vertical pairing. Also, training is being offered to clubs who want to use matside pairing at their event. Patt Van Horn and Pat Culp have both offered to train all who are interested.
  16. Brey is correct in his assumption. I was attempting to clarify the rules but in doing so, apparently I have caused further confusion. The ISWA is aware that many wrestlers who belong to a community club seek additional training from CIA, Red Cobra, Contenders, State Street, etc. This in no way excludes them from competing for their community club. The rules for this event are somewhat difficult to define and since this the ISWA's first attempt, it is a work in progress. However, be assured that all community clubs are allowed to enter. They just can not recruit wrestlers from a neighboring club in order to beef-up their team.
  17. As I understand it, the rule was changed in order to allow wrestlers who attend a club in a in a nearby school district or community to be a part of the team, because there is none offered in their area, Also, there are parochial schools such as Mater Dei, Roncolli, etc. that should not be excluded. However, a wrestler must be an active member of the club and practice exclusively with that club on a regular (weekly or bi-weekly) basis. Also, I think it does matter where they live. If a wrestler shows up on a team roster but lives a great distance from where the club practices, his/her membership should be called into question. The rule was modified in order to afford as many clubs as possible the opportunity to participate, not to give any club license to load a team by recruiting wrestlers from outside their community.
  18. I heard that Mater Dei is also on board.
  19. Jim Irsay of the Indianapolis Colts is giving away $25,000 on Christmas Eve to a needy charity. He is taking votes on Twitter so please reply to his tweet and vote for ISWA member club, Take Down Crime! It could really help with a great cause. Even if you are from out of town you can still vote for us. The most votes win, so vote, vote, vote...and if you don't have a twitter account, sign up for one so you can vote! Pass it along to all of your friends, too. 20. Not yet but hopefully by the end of next week we will have it locked down.
  21. According to Chris Lynch, ISWA Folkstyle Director, if you are participating both days you will only have to weigh-in one time. The weigh-in from the All-Star competition will also be used for the Community competition.
  22. Detailed information is available on the ISWA Tournament Schedule at www.iswa.com Entries are now being accepted for both the All-Star and Community Divisions.
  23. Freestyle State Finals Location Confirmed The 2011 ISWA Freestyle State Finals will be held on May 14-15 at Avon High School, 7575 E. 150 S., Avon Indiana Complete Details and Schedule will be posted ASAP on the ISWA web site www.iswa.com [flash=200,200]
