Not sure if I have seen someone completely dominate everyone like Andrew Howe did. His Junior and Senior years were ridiculously dominant. Not getting tech falled was an accomplishment for his opponents.

I know it will never happen, but I think it would help if teams could enter more than one kid per weight class into the sectional tournament. We lose very quality kids each year because they do not want to sit on the JV. Regional/semi state level kids that can't make the line up end up quitting rather than waiting for their shot on the varsity.

Who gets the vote out of Harrison Perry center grove Chesterton crown point ? Is Harrison adding some impact wrestlers
What about RONCALLI? They return a solid team.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion. I for one as a fan enjoy the "tournament" rather than dual meet format for acquiring a state championship. Even though we, Monrovia, have faired well it doesn't carry the amount of water that an OVERALL state title does. Obviously this is my opinion only.
I love our individual tournament. But that's exactly what it is, an individual tournament. I love team state as well and if we are talking about team state championships, that is the true measure in my opinion. We have a classed team state tournament now so small schools have a team state championship to shoot for.
-
You mean the individual tournament that has team scoring like the NCAAs?
Yes, we would consider ourselves more of a true Team State Champion if we beat Yorktown and Bellmont in a dual meet style tournament rather than out scoring them at Individual State.
We also have a HUGE team picture in our entrance of our school Right next to our 1995 and 1996 state football championship teams and our 2000 state runner up Baseball team.Good point. But in most gyms I go to, I see IHSAA banners for state championships and runner ups or even 3rd place. I don't see IHSWCA banners hanging, not that there would be anything wrong with that. Are you guys putting up the 3rd place team state banner at Northmont?
But you definitely would have put been putting up an IHSAA banner this year if things were classed, and you guys would have gotten it in "the alternate universe with classed wrestling in Indiana".

We do have our 2nd place banner of 2014 in our school gym. We treat IHSWCA Team State as THE true measuring stick for a team state championship. Not the IHSAA individual tournament.Good point. Interesting you bring up Prairie Heights. Didn't score a point this weekend and disappointing for such a talented team. Go with me on this: Say we hypothetically jump to the alternate universe with class wrestling. I would say in that world, they probably would of won the Class A state wrestling championship this weekend. And at 2:00 PM today, they would have had their State Championship assembly in the gym with whole school watching. Coach and wrestlers would of been heroes and the janitor would be clearing out the spot in the trophy cabinet. Cheerleaders would be doing a great cheer and everybody would feeling swell at the ole Prairie Heights high school.
Back to the real world. Coaches are talking while cleaning out the wrestling room, saying "we at least competed with the big teams and got there respect. Don't have anything to show for it, but we put up a good fight".
I thought we had a classed team state for this reason?

I'm saying that if my son attends a small school and is interested in wrestling then I need to realistically consider my options
1. I encourage him to enjoy the small school environment -- one that allows kids to play 3 different sports where a student at a large school may not get that chance. I support the wrestling team in any way possible, and probably try to talk his buddies into trying it with him. I don't expect him to get a look by college wrestling coaches, or really college coaches for any sport (unless he is a freak athlete!). Our school's academic opportunities may also not be the same as BigTown HS down the highway -- they have fancy chemistry labs, new computer equipment, robotics, a huge theatre, etc. I still encourage my kid to take advantage of what opportunities he has and try to excel in his studies anyways.
2. I want him to be a college wrestler (let me restate that -- HE wants to be a college wrestler, shouldn't matter what I want right?). So, in addition to our 5-man wrestling team, in the offseason I take him to RWA or RoadRunner or MaurerCoughlin or wherever. I buy wrestling DVDs so he can learn from others in the comfort of our home. We go to RTCs when they are available. Probably encourage him to wrestle freestyle/greco or any opportunity he gets. We are super excited when he beats kids that we consider better than he is - regardless of what size school they are from. He hopefully increases in his wrestling ability as the years go on and he advances through sectional, regional, ......
There's your choices. If you want to call it "things arent' fair deal with it" then go for it. The second option is the same advice I would give to a kid at a large school that wants to get better also.
Best post on this topic right here..

Everyone has a match so I do not see why the ihsaa would think it's not fair to score the first round. If scoring the first round of semi state isn't fair then I think scoring the first round of regional isn't fair.
-
What is the reasoning for not scoring the first round of semi state?

How many of 300+ points come from the range of 40-70 forfeits?
On our road to 300+ points, we received 3 forfeits in the quarterfinal round. Received by guys that eventually made it to the Sectional Finals.

IHSAA needs to do some adjusting to the weight management program. Sounds like we as coaches are not sure exactly how the plan works. I am at the understanding that you only need 6 qualifying weigh ins, one at scratch weight and one weigh in during the month of January at the weight you plan on wrestling for the state tournament. In the above scenario your sectional weigh in does not technically have to be a qualifying weigh in Ex: kid weighs in at 125.6 a week before sectional then drops back down to 120 for the tournament. If he already has his qualifying weigh ins, a scratch weight at 120 and a January weigh in then he is good to go 120 for sectional. My guys weigh in at their sectional weight for the entire month of January so we rarely have any issues with these type of situations.

Can't beg kids to do it. I have never had long term success with a kid that I've had to beg to participate. Sometimes you have to tell a kid "Good luck" and let them choose not to participate or to quit.

My question was we started the season ranked 3rd. Beat everyone out in front of us including a very tough Hamilton Southeastern squad. With 3 days before the seeding of team state, we drop to 4th in the rankings which led to us getting a 4 seed.. I am sure the rankings have an influence on the seeding for this tournament.

Coaches have received brackets for the team duals. Team duals brackets should be posted on trackwrestling in the coming days. Individual brackets will be posted on Dec. 27th a couple hours after the team duals tournament concludes.

I really enjoy the weeknight single dual meet. Been trying to think of ways we could rearrange our schedule so we could have more of them while keeping our schedule competitive and wrestle all the teams we have to wrestle for seeding purposes. Have not came up with any solutions as of now.
-
Yeah, I was thinking more on why 17 weigh in points would be tough on some teams who try to wrestle all of their sectional teams while trying to get more single duals and wrestling good competition. In some situations 17 weigh in points just would not be enough.
-
We use 6 weigh in points strictly on wrestling teams from our sectional (all are multi dual Saturday duals). If we only had to use let's say 2 weigh in points to wrestle sectional opponents, maybe we would use the last 4 points wrestling strictly week night single duals which would cut matches down by 5 matches or so. Atleast that would be the case for my team. With that being said, we rarely have a kid that has wrestled 40-45 matches before sectional. I do not think it has happened in the last 6 seasons.
-
Make the Sectional smaller so teams do not have to waste weigh in points wrestling so many teams for seeding purposes.
-
Does anyone have a potential price for the new uniform option?

Has too busy of a schedule. But same kid finds time to play a fall and spring sport..

Still baffles my mind that HSE and Fishers are 5-10 minutes from Pendleton Heights but they are sent all the way over to our regional (North Montgomery). I guess you can throw Westfield and Carmel in there as well. They are both about 30 minutes away from Pendleton but drive probably over an hour to get to North Montgomery.
