  1. Last year MD won this early season match up by like 20 point, then lost to Castle by like 12 in the team tournament. Castle improved, while MD went stagnant. Coach Shaffer will undoubtably drive that point home this year. Hopefully some people in the know can post some prospective line ups on here so we can converse.
  2. Any thoughts on this early season match-up?
  3. The Holliday classic has loast some of its better competition in recent years. At one time they had the team state champions from Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama at this tourney. It is sometimes hard to get teams to travel a long distance to get their butt whooped. ;D
  4. Karl, the data from the whole country is more broad based than yours on Michigan. Half to 2/3 of the states with class wrestling are worse than Indiana. How is it delusional to believe with those numbers that MAYBE class wrestling doesn't help a state improve?
  5. Obviously teams that do things right are going to be the ones that have success. LaVille HS has hard working kids and coaches but have basically zero chance of having post season success because they are in the same sectional as Penn, Mishawaka, and SB Riley. Let them compete with teams of similar size and see how things shake out. Castle's coach has never complained about being in MD's regional. He just kept working until he beat them. Hmmmm?
  6. Yes. But the point manvswild is trying to make is that class wrestling is not a panacea. There is NO PROOF from other states that it evens the playing field or makes things more competitive. If ,as Y2 stated, the state tournament has almost no bearing on college recruiting, then what is the point in switching to a different system that is un proven, and we won't be able to switch back from. If you want to get more teams to team state and more individuals to individual state, lobby the IHSAA to increase the numbers at these events. That is unless of course all you want is to get YOUR team there, and then class is the only way you have a chance.
  7. Did I read this correctly? Indiana beat Illinois? I thought it was impossible for a state with a single class format to compete with a state with multiple classes. How can this be?
  8. All any program needs is a couple of coaches like you and they will continue to improve. Congratulations on a great season.
  9. I thought MD was going to be in serious trouble the next year against Hobart. Hobart had almost everyone back from that team the next year but didn't make state. What happened?
  10. Almost all wrestlers at Individual state wrestle sooooo conserative it is almost boring. That is smart for the individual series. But alot of those wrestlers open up their offense at team state where bonus points are critical. Everyone said that all Blake Maurer did was block and counter. Most of them only saw him at state. The fact that he broke the state record for career take downs and just about every offensive record at MD says otherwise. Wrestlers at team state have a tendency to let it all hang out.
  11. I will throw in a vote for Gabe Cook of W. Vigo. I believe he was the first and only state champ from his school and went on to wrestle for either IU or Perdue. All natural ability in HS.
  12. You seem to misunderstand me. I want Castle to win. I would rather be able to say we lost to the eventul state champion than to say we lost to a one and done at the state finals. All I was implying is that you cannot compare a three time state champ, one time fourth place finisher to a one time 7th. Bonus points would be scored in this match if it happened. I hope it will, but I don't think it will. Mishawaka has a tough road to get past Cathedral and then Crown Point. I don't know if they can do it. Castle will have to get past Delphi and then either Belmont or Perry Meridian, who are both tough and tournamet tested and expierenced. Whoever wins it this year will have to earn it the hard way.
  13. I did not say Castle would lose. I said it was highly unlikely that Mishawaka's three time state champ would only get a three point decission against a one time 7th placer.
  14. One comment to catfish: Harper pinned Simms last year at team state. Seitz will be lucky if he only gets teched.
  15. If you really want to screw something up, let the government run it. I think something needs to be done about hte IHSAA, but giving it to elected officials with political axes to grind is the WRONG ANSWER.
  16. I am amazed there are only 2 pages to this thread to this point. Such an even field this year. I thought there would be more chatter.
  17. That plus the fact you can count the number of teams in Indiana who have beaten MD in the past 10-15 years on one hand. And with one exception these have all become state champions.
  18. I am biased, but I don't think either match would have been close. ;D

    Y2!!!!!

Thanks. I figured it out after I posted this. :

    Y2!!!!!

I think there is a mistake on your 112 bracket for the Evansville semi-state. Michael Brown from Castle took second at regionals. It appears he is in the 1-4 matchup. If this is incorrect, my appologies.
  21. Great wrestling. I wish the fans would take a lesson from the wrestlers. I saw only one wrestler let his emotions get away from him, and one of his coaches quickly addressed that situation. 103: Kuhn still a stud, don't lose faith Nut. 112:Great championship match. Down to the last second. 119: A. J. is a stud. The rest of the state had best watch out. 125: Reitz and MD again, MD this time. 130: Castle was tough in this one. 135: Dehaven peaking at the right time. 140: Simms. 145: Richards over Zeke this time. 152: The kid from Princeton suprised me. 160: Takedown in overtime for Easterling. I had to leave after this match. A couple of notes to the Castle fans: If you were upset when all the MD fans cheered when Alex Greismer beat Michael brown, you need to remember every time you and everyone in the gym cheered when ANYONE from MD lost. We never had the sherriffs threaten to make us leave. And finally to the Castle fans yelling"you're not going to state", enjoy your trip, you earned it. If you win, then you may talk trash to us.
  22. What time does this fiasco get under way tomorrow?
  23. I didn't like the refs either, but they were consistant the whole night. You can't ask for more than that out of refs. Castle out hustled, out wrestled, out muscled and out performed MD in every aspect of the meet. They were clearly the best team. They had a great team strategy and stuck with it throughout. Good luck at team state.
