  1. West noble has 2 wins and Whitko is 1-1.
  2. Avon sure is tougher getting +7 instead of -12 for forfeits at 106/285.
  3. Wawasee about to finish off Rochester, up 48-8 with a couple matches left. What happened to Rochester? I was looking back at their state series results on Track last year. They were supposed to be bringing back their 7 best guys, but only 5 of those best 7 are on their roster. I'd seen their results seemed down, but I hadn't investigated. Not having 4 returning semi-state qualifiers and another 20+ win guy has really hampered them.
  4. What are some of the key updates so far?
  5. I'm going to guess a little lower bc they're always so conservative with ranking freshmen. I'll guess they'll slide Singletary and Stencel up, put Parris right behind them at about 17 or 18, drop Hillger behind Parris, and punish Dhesi by dropping him to 5 or 6.
  6. He's clearly the favorite, but I think the gap between him and the field is much less than it was between Snyder/Coon and the field. As others have suggested, what's fascinating is that there's no real pecking order at all here like in many years past in this older man's weight class that's typically controlled by established veterans.
  7. First "varsity" (i.e. "attached") win
  8. I hadn't been following Conner Tolley, so I did a bit of research after his Scuffle performance, where he ended up 2-2, dropping a 6-0 decision to #13 Voss and a 2-1 decision to Stanford's top guy, who is 11-5. In his first 3 seasons at UT-Chattanooga, including a redshirt year, Conner won a grand total of 6 matches. He then got the varsity spot last year and went 11-8, finishing 3rd in the SoCon (only champ advanced to NCAAs). This year, he's got 9 wins already and could be a dark horse for an NCAA spot. It's looking like the SoCon defending champ Heino, a Finnish world teamer who made it to the NCAA blood round last year, is going to redshirt. If he does, Conner will be right there as one of the two or three contenders for the conference's automatic bid at 285. Very cool to look back through his results and see the big jumps in the quality level of his results. Great testament to persistence and hard work--lots of guys stop wrestling or transfer out of D1 after taking the kind of lumps Tolley did for 3 years.
  9. I wonder where he'll get ranked. Losses to #17, #18, and an unranked guy, but wins over #1, #9, #18.
  10. It determines the duals state champions in 3 classes but not the IHSAA state champion.
  11. Tolley picks up a 2nd win, 9-4 over Rasmussen of Stanford. He needs one more win to advance to Day 2 and two more wins to place.
  12. Other results not mentioned here: After having pinned nationally ranked Stencel of Central Michigan earlier this year, Parris gets the favor returned by Stencel and then ends up 5th after a FF win in the 5/6 matchup. Lucas Davison with a big-time 6-4 win over Flo #6 Caywood to take 3rd place. Top 5 at 197 end up being 1. Flo #3, 2. unattached Sloan (who beat Davison in a tight one in the semi's, but whom Davison beat at Dream Team), 3. DAVISON, 4. Flo #6, 5. Flo #4. Great tournament for Davison!
  13. Our high school class of 2018 phenoms are killing it at Midlands this weekend. Brayton Lee is wrestling unattached for Minnesota at 149 and took out Flo #'s 16 and 17. He then dropped a 3-2 quarterfinal decision to 157-lb national #6 Pantaleo of Michigan. Lucas Davison is seeded #6 and rolled through his first two, including the #11 seed, before winning his quarterfinal over the guy who took out the #3 seed, perennial US Greco world-teamer, Joe Rau. He's got an unseeded guy who took out Flo #4 Warner of Iowa in the semi-finals. Mason Parris is seeded #5 and smashed his first two guys before beating Flo #9 Hillger of Wisconsin, 9-6, in the quarters. He'll have the 8-seed Jennings of Northwestern in the semi's. The #1 seed, Stoll of Iowa, forfeited out in the quarters. Based on seeds, Parris and Davison are both favored to be Midlands finalists as unattached true freshmen!! Let's do it!!
  14. I follow what you're saying and I agree. I know for sure, though, that they're largely going on what coaches are saying will be their up-to-date lineups--which may include additions or changes not seen yet this year. As I said, this is in an effort to be as accurate as possible and may or may not fully reflect season results that were skewed by non-current lineups.
  15. It's definitely a question of "how good is each team TODAY" that determines seeding. Otherwise, loaded Cathedral teams, for instance, would typically be way underseeded because of perennial early-season football impact on strict results. It's because of their "today" philosophy that the committee has been so accurate every year.
  16. For duals, outside of team state, Traicoff has generally been the top, but N Montgomery and others aren't far off this year
  17. Whoops...I was thinking it happened on the 22nd. I scrolled until the first batch of 12-22 results was past and thought it hadn't been entered. thanks for the heads up!!
  18. Results?? Lots of analysis on this thread with no scores.
  19. I like it. Duals require 14 weight classes. Tournaments allow whichever 14 guys you want to enter. It would make the state series very, very interesting.
  20. Sorry if I missed it somewhere: anyone know if Evan Ellis is wrestling somewhere this season? I saw he's not on the Brown roster. Any word on why Brock Hudkins isn't wrestling this year? Taking his redshirt finally?
  21. Anybody know why she made the move up to 62 from 59? I thought she looked more dynamic at 59, but it could just be down to that being a more crowded weight for us domestically.
  22. Kayla thrashes the Uzbek and advances to the bronze medal match against a very tough German girl who has been their senior world team rep the past 3 years. Both Kayla and the German, Niemesch, have teched all their opponents except the Ukrainian who beat them (who is also a senior world-teamer that won bronze at the senior-level euro's this year). The finals start at 11am eastern time this morning. Kayla should go on the mat at about 11:45 or a little after.
