ASHLAND, Ohio - The Greyhound wrestling team returned to the mat after about a month off at Ashland's Mid-Atlantic Duals Sunday.
UIndy went 1-2 on the day and finished fourth of the eighth teams at the event. The Greyhounds defeated Gannon 24-10, fell to King 21-16 and lost to West Liberty 22-12.
In its win over Gannon, Uindy took wins in seven of the 10 bouts of the dual, highlighted by Ethan Harris' 3-1 overtime decision at 133 and Evan Wooding's 5:48 pin in the heavyweight bout. Josh Kieffer, Justin Kieffer, Jeff Weiss, Aaron Stevenson and Randy Kaufman all also collected wins in the dual for the Greyhounds.
Against King, UIndy opened the match strong, taking wins in the first four bouts. Justin Kieffer took a major decision, 14-4, in the 141 match to lead the strong start. However, the Greyhounds only got one more victory in the match, a 6-0 decision from Stevenson at 184, resulting in the loss.
Three UIndy grapplers took wins against West Liberty, with Harris, Josh Kieffer and Stevenson all closing out undefeated days with victories. Josh Kieffer took a 13-4 major decision victory at 125 to highlight the dual for the Greyhounds.
Next up for UIndy is a trip to the Wisconsin-Parkside duals next Saturday. The Greyhounds will face off with the host Rangers, Findlay, Ashland and Minnesota-Mankato as part of the day-long event.
