  1. The Montgomery/Rueger match was good. Rueger got caught and Montgomery earned back points. Rueger was able to put Montgomery on his back, but couldn't hold it...and I think time ran out in the period. Have you seen Montgomery's build? His legs remind me of McGrady's - solid base.

  4. I know it wasn't 2003...I'm pretty sure MD won the Coaches Trophy that year. I thought it was 2004 (Escobedo, Escobedo, Tsirtsis and Hernandez (?)...I thought they were the only 4 to place...all champs of course, but they won the Coach's Trophy...maybe I'm wrong...but I don't think so. Anyways, it was just something I was thinking when all the IC kids kept advancing...I wouldn't be surprised if they accumulated the most "points" at Semi-State yesterday - all 5 kids did great!
  5. Congrats to the Indina Creek wrestlers, they were exciting to watch and I wish them all the best of luck at Conseco. But...I did want to point out that I believe I read on here earlier in the season that IC didn't have a full team, not sure if this is correct or not...BUT...this is the kind of situation where a team has the opportunity of winning the coaches trophy (under the old format of declaring a State Championship) based on a handful of great kids, not an entire team. Griffith (2004 I think) is another example...I think Lowell is one as well. Not taking anything away from IC, these kids are great, but just pointing out how a few kids can win the TEAM the trophy, under the old format, so if they do decide to take away Team State, I hope they come up with a better system than the previous one.
  6. Boomsma...1:34 fall, 16-0 TF, :35 fall, 4-0 over a very good Kuhn...this kid is on fire!!! Ditto on Rieker...although Princeton's Griesemer could be a sleeper...thought he wrestled well all day Malloy -TOTAL BEAST Phelan Montgomery...impressive Weekly...he was so aggressive and his brute strength - WOW...but Richey looked good too I agree with all of your statements...we've got some talented wrestlers in the Evansville Semi-State
  7. Funny...I was cheering for Rickenbaugh to make it to the finals with Welch...once Sims wasn't going for the title, I was for Welch all the way. I don't think I've made it any secret that I'm a fan of those Welch boys, love to watch them wrestle. In fact, I was just talking about the State brackets and was thinking that the Evansville Semi-State, for the most part, got kinda crappy draws...except the Welches...oh that's right...they are the bad draw...
  8. This sounds like a terrible situation. At E'ville SS, at least one match the clock ran down about 10 seconds after the ref called out of bounds. The match was stopped and the clock was fixed immediately. That's what you're supposed to do....leaving it in the hands of the refs to do a 5 second count is too biased...we've all seen different reffing styles...you get one ref who counts out so slow the kid's on his back for 10 sec and they get 2 nearfall...the next guy refs a kid on his back for 3 sec and he's already got a 5 count. Sounds like bad decisions all around.
  9. I've spent ALL DAY the past three Saturdays at wrestling hearing the entire gym explode like CRAZY when any MD wrestler went down (and many, many years of this happening), so I don't think ANYONE from this area should be complaining if MD fans cheeer against a kid here and there. I wasn't cheering on Reiker, however, I did want him to win, but not because I don't like Trevor, we've known that kid for years. If something would happen and one of the qualifiers would be unable to continue onto the State tourney, Henderson would be the alternate because Reiker beat him in the round to go, so that could be why some of the fans were cheering for Reiker. That being said, I was cheering like crazy for a lot of kids with no association with MD...Johns, Whetstine, Wedding, Hoehn, Konrath, Rueger, Stein, Kelley, Mastison, Welch (and Welch and Welch), Rickenbaugh....bottom line, when they aren't wrestling an MD kid, I want kids from my area to win - quality wrestlers is what keeps our Southern programs strong, and they continue to become more competitive. On a side note...Most Impressive stat under the lights... "Trevor Moody, ranked #1 in his class with a 4.0 GPA!"...now that's impressive
  10. Rueger is no joke, he is a tough wrestler, and should not be underestimated, he will learn from this loss and move on. That being said, Montgomery was on fire. Those legs of his give him such a solid base, and I think he and Tsirtsis would be one heck of a match. And from what I heard from people on the floor, he was a super great kid. You always like to hear that. Good luck to him next week-end, it was a joy to watch him wrestle.
  11. I got a look at this kid for the first time last year at Semi-State and was totally impressed. He looked great this year at Semi-State, what a beast! I like this kid, he takes it to you from minute one, I'd put him up against anyone. Can't wait to see how he does next week-end!
  12. At the MD 5-way Seng wrestled all but one match, Vibbert wrestled against Boomsma. I do think Seng and Lykins met that day and I believe Seng won (sorry don't know the score).

  14. Ummm...I think you might be confused about who is an MD fan....where have you seen them being unkind?!?
  15. Tim Scott was injured in practice and Rob Mallory replaced him right before the tourney. Keep in mind, Rob wasn't really a JV kid, but a tough Senior wrestler in a weekly wrestle-off battle. When he had to step in to fill in for Scott, he showed his true grit and made a great run at State. Both Scott and Mallory were talented wrestlers, and again, this situation showed the depth of MD's wrestling room that year.
  16. I gave you a wahoo!!! Maybe a few others can help get you back in the positive.
  17. In 1996 and 2007 MD sent 11 to state, in 2003 MD sent 10 to state. Although MD sent more in 1996 and 2007, MD placed 8 of 10 (4 champs, 1-runner up, 2-3rd's, 1-6th) in 2003, which I think is the most they ever placed in one year. They also sent 10 in 2002. In 2003 they didn't send 14 to semi-state (that was 1996).
  18. I think they might have got all 14 to Semi-State that year (2003), and then took 10 to State, and if I'm not mistaken they placed pretty near all of them...
  19. I don't know if you guys have seen this article, but I read an article about him earlier this week, and today there is an article about his condition, and the fact that he is breathing on his own now. MRSA is serious, I hope we are all taking the time to make sure our wrestlers stay healthy. http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local-beat/Condition-Upgraded-for-LI-Wrestler-Infected-With-MRSA-115718314.html
  20. That is exactly what I was going to say...I even have notes in my booklet @ that match about the 3rd period ride...
  21. Congrats! There is nothing quite like having a son!!
  22. I think both teams are solid, and one thing is for sure...this match is sure going to be exciting! If this is indeed the last year for Team State, it will be bittersweet. I've seem some pretty awesome matches at Team State through the years and heres to hoping this year doesn't disappoint!!! Good luck to all of the teams who will be competing for the Team State Championship. I've run the lineups in my head about 20 different times and have come up with about 20 different outcomes, too close to call, I'll just have to wait and see!
