  1. Doors open at 5pm EST. Parade of Champions is at 5:45pm EST....can't wait for Friday night!!!
  2. Agreed....I can't think about anything but wrestling right now!!!!
  3. Kevin Hueslman is one of my favorites.
  4. Although I am not a huge fan of girls wrestling boys...I am a fan of wrestling...and if on any given day, a girl who trains as hard as any boy in the room, puts it all on the line to do something she loves and comes out the victor...than I say CONGRATS & GOOD LUCK. The fact is, she made history by advancing to State, and she did it by WINNING MATCHES. This is one talented lady and I'm looking forward to watching her career unfold. As I told a 106 lbr yesterday ~ when she's wearing that Olympic medal you'll be able to say ~ I was there, I saw her wrestle in high school, I was wrestling when she made history, and she was dang good!!!
  5. I know Berry/Maurer could have wrestled in St. Louis but didn't....have Sliga/Berry had a chance to meet this year? Sounds like Indy should be exciting with these 3 in the mix!
  6. Coach Harmon, I think you are so right. As a mom of a three-sporter I can tell you, no overthrown ball, dropped pass, or strike out compares to losing a wrestling match.
  7. Although I am not a big proponent of girls wrestling with boys...I will have to tip my hat to this young lady. Good luck at State - you've already made history by just making it there - can't wait to see what you do in Indy.
  8. I've seen these two wrestle 4 times now...and 4 times...Maurer has been the victor - perhpas the most exciting match was the one at Team Regional where Maurer pinned him in the 4th OT after 2 full periods of Curtley stalling. In fact, yesterday's match was the best he's wrestled Maurer all year. That was not a takedown, and the correct call was made. Hats off to that reffing crew for making the correct call after conferencing. I'm not taking away from Curtley, he is a solid wrestler, but he did not outwrestle Maurer yesterday.
  9. This is a completely ridiculous statement. Just because you saw something, and you thought it was one way, doesn't mean you know what was going on. Perhaps he really was injured and did discuss it with his coach and then went to sit with his dad. Then when it was his time to go, his coach was looking for a piece of paperwork that only his assistant coach had, that he needed to turn into the table help, and he couldn't find him anywhere. I'm just saying...there could have been anything going on. Regardless, this could be a risky move...or it could be a smart move. Either way, who cares?!?! Let the guy do what he thinks is best for him, and let the chips fall where they may. And if he made a stupid comment in the heat of the moment - so what?!? - he's a TEENAGER - they are emotional...and this is WRESTLING - it doesn't get more emotional than this!
  10. Wrestling is so unpredictable ~ at any time, ANYTHING can happen. It's glorious and jubliant, overwhelming, and devestating all at the same time. I spent a LONG day at Evansville's Semi-State yesterday and it was exciting and heartbreaking. To watch so many great wrestlers go down in the ticket round - several Seniors - was simply horrible. I'm torn on wrestlebacks. On one hand, it would give kids like Seng, Kennedy, Rueger, Hoehn - all VERY CLOSE ticket round matches - a chance to earn a spot at State that is truly deserved, on the other hand it takes away from the win the other wrestler claimed that day, and that's just the way with wrestling - on an given day, someone who isn't necessarily better than you can wrestle better than you - and we cannot forget about the refs - what refs you "draw" can be just as important as the wrestler you draw. Wrestlebacks become an especially important discussion though because all semi-states are not equal. We talk about "fairness", but when one or two semi-states are completely loaded, I wouldn't say it's not fair, but it's not equal to be sure. Wrestlebacks would make me feel better - they'd ease that heartbreak that comes from watching a kid I completely love go down, because I know he'd be getting another shot at earning that spot...but...then again...they also cause heartbreak for a kid who thought he'd punched his ticket (often by winning a very tight match). Once you get to State, however, I think there should be wrestlebacks - those Friday night matches are killers and the draws can be so crazily unpredictable, especially when drawing from a very stacked Semi-State - you could be a champ and draw someone who could have easily been a champ had they been in your semi-state. All that being said, some of those ticket round matches at semi-state and those Friday night matches at State are the stuff legends are made of...
  11. Ditto!!! Good luck ~ punch your tickets!!!
  12. Although the list of great coaches is not short on names...I have to give the nod to the Dynamic Duo...Goebel/Helfrich...together they made history.
  13. I'm ready for some wrestling!!!! Good luck to all of the semi-state bound wrestlers ~ here's hoping Evansville's 2012 semi-state is one we'll never forget!!!
  14. I think you at least have to stretch that time frame for Evansville to include '03...MD alone took 10, placed 8, had 7 in the top 3 with 4 champs that year...and I know that other guys from our semi-state placed high that year as well (at least one Bloomington South wrestler finished 2nd to Tsirtsis that year).... I think this year I have to give the nod to Evansville, it's a grinder - some unbelievable ticket rounds...but Merriville has been tough the last few years...and New Castle always has some studs as well With the sheer talent across the state, not only will the Semi-States be chock full of great wrestling...the State Finals next week-end should be UNFORGETTABLE!!!
  15. Great story ~ I'm sure he'll be smiling down on you this week-end!! Sounds like the two of you made some special memories during wrestling season ~ he left you with something you will never forget.
  16. He lost to Dalton Brandenstein earlier in the year when he was at 182 - lost by 1 pt.
  17. Prayers for these young people. May God see Courtney through this terrible accident and help her to a speedy recovery.
  18. you are right...i have corrected it...

  20. No kidding...this was the first time I heard this topic (*groan*) this year....ugh...
  21. This is going to be a good dual - if it happens - but I hope both teams are focused on winning Round 1 first. I never underestimate the will of a champion ~ both teams want to end up champs so, if this match-up occurs, I fully expect it to be a battle to the end!
  22. I am confused by how this works. For instance, I see several teams we have beat by large sores ranked way higher than us. So this is all based on Individual stats - really has nothing to do with a true dual format?
  23. The Team State torunament became meaningless when teams began doing things like substituting their JV lineups rather than wrestling their varsity kids ~ or how about at Team State when several of the schools within 30 miles of the event bring very low crowds. It's also been my observation that if a team or program isn't winning, they begin to point fingers at teams/programs who are. I, for one, will miss Team State, but I'm looking forward to the new tournament. Someone made a comment to me at Team Regionals last night that they were glad that MD moved up in class to give other small schools a chance...ironically, since Team State was not classed, size has never had anything to do with it. If a wrestler was injured, or nursing an injury, then I can see sitting him/her because it is just a few days before Ind. Regionals...however...just sitting them as an "in case" (they "might" get hurt) is insane....they might get hurt the 1st round at Regionals as well. One thing I think is good about the system, is you may have a team competing that has a Senior who wasn't Varsity at a wieght where the Varsity guy is going on to the Individual Tourney, this will give him an opportunity to wrestle a final match. My heart always breaks for those Seniors who get knocked out at Sectionals.
