  1. Here's one that has come up several times this year. Again, not a real fight I am trying to win, but a discussion point for a discussion board. A has a .688 winning percentage. B has a .677 winning percentage. C has a .661 winning percentage. C beat A head to head. No other H2H or common. No Semi-state QF. Coach 1 says it should be B,C,A because C is above A by H2H and then B has to get the seed by better win%. Coach 2 says it should C,A,B because A is the best win% but C beat A. Coach 3 says it should be it should be A,B,C because that scenario cancels everything out but winning %. Not saying I agree with each argument, but those are the ones presented. Who is correct? Discuss.
  2. And that's a good point. I myself have made that mistake before. I asked Triple B about one this morning just to see if we saw things the same way and we do. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.... Ironically, we were using sectional seeding criteria at that meeting, and it still got squirrelly. I honestly don't have a question. I know some folks ask broad questions because they don't want to have people figure out their games. I just listened to a lot of people over the last couple years interpret the same information two different ways. This site is nice, but it's social media. Can't use it as fact. Just wondered if there was a "casebook" type document that could illustrate commonly confused scenarios.
  3. I understood that part. I have the winter bulletin in my Dropbox so if I have questions it is always with me. But I also understand that even though is is explicitly written that coaches should strive to keep an open mind and avoid seeding their wrestlers upon the desire for unwarranted advantage, emotion and pride sometimes can cloud the logical process of events. This came up at a tournament this weekend and I thought as a member of the coaches' association, I would do some looking and asking to see if I could find a resource for newer coaches to get some questions answered that were unclear or murky. Although I'm sure Robert Faulkens is very well-informed on our sport, I doubt he wants to spend time answering the same questions over and over again if there is another resource to draw from. The seeding criteria is laid out and makes perfect sense. I'm looking more at the awkward head-to-head/common opponent situations that may be seen three different ways. If there is no resource, then I need to go a different way. Just asking.
  4. I understand this may sound odd, but who is the authority in Indiana as far as the ins and outs of seeding? If I have a rules question, there are several officials I talk to for clarification. Is there a "person" about seeding questions? I ask this because A) it's that time of year... There have been several experienced coaches I have dealt with this season that interpret the same information in very different ways C) There have been several newer coaches I have dealt with that I feel are either not as informed as they realize or have been given bad information that they took for the gospel. Any thoughts?
  5. We try to go with khakis and coaching shirt most Saturdays. Friday-Saturday deals are usually jeans since that's what I wear to school Fridays then "Khlassy" on Saturdays. We try to avoid the wind breaker or the wind pants though. Not too windy in the gyms and since I'm fat, it adds unnecessary perspiration to my nether regions.
  6. We need to get to the bottom of this before the TSkiddler and Mr. TripleB'zzz get away with all the commissioner's money! [glow=red,2,300][/glow] Take that! Show us the money!! http://www.dialbforblog.com/archives/458/robin_pow.jpg[/img] We'll show you! I think you guys get funnier every day.....
  7. I get heated when things seem to be a makeup for an earlier missed call. I had a kid wrestling a close match on top late in the 3rd. Bottom guy hits a stand-up and gets close to the line and our kid forces him out of bounds. Not blatant, but as his coach I would say that was his intent. Same situation on the next restart (after much howling from the other corner about missing the call) and the bottom guy walks forward out of bounds as we are trying to pull in. Top guy gets hit for a point for avoiding wrestling. I think the official may have felt like he needed to anticipate the call since he was getting hammered for "missing it" earlier. Tying these things to stalling seems like a better approach.

  11. It was only because you got so much taller since then...
  12. Just thinking... there are copious amounts of open dates topics that have since passed. Could they be cleaned out by someone with moderator powers? May help schools looking find what they need faster.
  13. At regional it would be. Semi-state would be unlikely to be full because a 16 man bracket with full wrestlebacks to 3rd would create a possibility of a 6th match in a day. Unlikely, but my team happens to go to a tournament where we have collected "thirth" place ribbons when this happens. For full-wrestlebacks, a 2nd day would be necessary. Wrestlebacks from the quarterfinal level (ironically the same level in the tournament that became part of seeding criteria this season...) would allow a wrestler in the top 8 to come back for 3rd. 2 ticket rounds in essence.
  14. Paoli places 5 at Jeff Classic - Team 14th of 15 120 - Burton 8th 145 - Rominger 8th 182 - Bostock 7th 285 - Andry 2nd 285 - Miles 6th (wrestled as unattached) Academic Team Members: 120 Burton 182 Bostock
  15. I would say both kids were. That was a great match to watch. French had a pretty good weekend all things considered. Isaiah showed some mettle pulling that out.
  16. One of my kids got called for a slam this weekend. Although I protested at the time (I still maintain there is no polite or quiet way for heavyweights to land on the mat against their will), once you take a wrestler off of the mat surface, you are responsible for returning them in a safe way. Sometimes the adrenaline of a match makes us forget. This is one of the points of emphasis this season for officials and it seems at least to the ones I have seen that they are taking it very seriously.
  17. Shoulda thought this one through before posting in the first place. C'mon man. This can't possibly make you or your program feel better by posting this stuff.
  18. Winners for Paoli: 106 Cody Murphy 126 Nate Burton 132 Garrett Tolen 138 Tyler Apple 152 Austin Rominger 160 Tyler Satterfield 182 Ian Bostock 195 Travis Allen 285 Mark Miles In action this Friday and Saturday at Jeff Classic
  19. I think that is the hard part about moving events like that. Paoli has the facilities and floor space to host a sectional or regional, but at the same time the crew at Southridge does a nice job putting that on every year. We have a new venue for regional (Bloomington South) this season, but that was more due to realignment than anything else.
  20. Looks like the upper weights could be the deciding factors. All four seem to be loaded low, but maybe a little less well known in different spots in the upper weights.
  21. Individual results later.
  22. I was just curious how deep your convictions ran. I understand your reply, but I guess I thought you'd answer the question, not dismiss it. I'm not worrying about your ethics. I think you've defended them well at every occasion. Seems to me you are a very ethical coach. My wondering was more about why certain people or organizations seem to consistently get your critique. If I'm being to critical of you, then just say so.
  23. I think as adults we have a pretty good understanding of right and wrong. To me, it comes down to why you are involved in this sport. I coach because I enjoy working with young people. It's my chosen profession. At the end of the day, I am going to think about the kid (whether he rode your bus or mine) to make my decision. I can honestly say that I would have a hard time running to the official and doing that. If the kid sat there and absolutely chugged water in an obvious effort to add weight after weigh-ins were started, then I would have less of a hard time. It comes back to your ability to make common sense decisions as an adult. You've made several comments lately that are less than flattering about coaches and their ethics. Makes me wonder a bit. If your stud wrestler takes a shot of water in the weigh in room (a clear violation), are you going to self-report?
  24. Don't say that! WADA will send a testing van straight to his front door!!
