I know there will be several wrestlers this weekend playing at Lucas Oil Stadium. I would like to recognize our Adams Central wrestlers who will be competing for a state championship this weekend. As a Dad, Uncle, and coach of these young men, I am super proud of their hard work, attitude, and dedication that has put them into this position. AC football kids that have wrestled on our HS team: Blake Heyerly, Alex Currie, Keegan Bluhm, Trevor Currie, Gavin Cook, Braydon Moon, Zac Wurm, Lain Lengerich, Ryan Black, Trace Sonnigsen, Keagan Combs, Cody Lautzenheiser, Gavin Arner, Jackson Becher, Wyatt Smith, Max Kaehr, Matt Heiser, Holden Schumm, Lucas Rumple. The idea of not getting the "best" to state comes up in other sports as well. Look at football- there are multiple examples of top teams playing in the same sectional. For instance in 1A, LCC and Pioneer battled it out in the same sectional for years as two of the top ranked teams. Ft Wayne's disadvantage in wrestling is the large proportion of small schools that it is made up of. And the lack of early opportunities for the large schools that are there (FW Community Schools). I am not sure the IHSAA feels it is a big enough problem to have a major overhaul. Then they would have to for other sports as well. As for travel distances- if AC makes it to regional in baseball, they travel to Whiting (3.5 hour drive). from the Ohio state line to the Illinois state line. So there are other instances of large travel times. So other sports have the same concerns we do. Just not sure the powers see it as an issue to fix.

Adams Central is a small school (1A) that has had a bunch of qualifiers and placers. This year is our 23rd year in a row with a representative at the state finals. Also 41 out of the last 42 years a kid has qualified. Most of the kids are multi sport athletes as well. 2 of our 3 qualifiers this year were 1st team Junior All State in Football this season. -
Just look at how many medals are returning at 132. That weight class is crazy loaded.

That was very unusual for us. Average 3-5 seniors most years. This year only one on our roster.

From the IHSAA Winter Bulletin Coaches should strive to keep open minds when seeding assignments are being decided. The main objective of seeding is to have outstanding wrestlers separated in the brackets so that they will not meet each other until the finals. Seeding shall be based upon the wrestler's proven ability and not upon the desire for unwarranted advantage.
