  1. If it could be figured out, it would stop a semi like we're likely to see this year at 125 with Tsirtsis and Quiroga. What a shame that won't be the championship.
  2. Vision Quest is great and the showdown match between Shoot and Lowden is actually done fairly well. The actors are actually hitting some moves, not just throws. The best, however, is when the coach, at practice, is wearing a collared golf type shirt under his singlet. Hilarious!
  3. Hopefully not make it up at all and cancel it for the year!
  4. Everyone always talks about the toughest SS overall but I did a quick comparison of the four SS's and the number of state ranked wrestlers in each weight class and found the following (I stopped after 119 because after that weight there was too much weight disparity between state ranked wrestlers and how they were being ranked in their individual SS's). If a particular SS had the same number of ranked wrestlers in a class, then the SS with the highest ranked wrestlers was ranked ahead. 103 112 119 New Castle (6 ranked wrestlers) New Castle (6 rw) Merrillville (6 rw) Merrillville (6 rw) Frt Wayne (4 rw) New Castle (4 rw) Evansville (3 rw) Merrillville (3 rw) Evansville (4 rw) Fort Wayne (1 rw) Evansville (3 rw) Frt Wayne (2 rw) This isn't saying where the champ will come out of, just which guys will have the toughest row to hoe to make it to state. Just thought the numbers were interesting.
  5. Norton of Carroll beat him in the semis and Larowe beat him in the 3rd/4th match. Against Larowe, it was tied and, if memory serves, in the 3rd, Larowe got a reversal and caught Sheets for a 3pt NF. 130 was absolutely stacked. Just finising in the top 4 was truly an accomplishment.
  6. I think that the addition of this class would be interesting...so many kids in the weight range weighing 235 or 240 have so much trouble with a 285 stud and this will give them a better competition class and i think it will increase some more of the kids coming out to wrestle. so many come from football and dont want to lose the 20 lbs for 215 and dont want to get hurt at 285. I think there is a happy median to be reached for these guys. After all it is all about the kids, not what is considering "quality" wrestling. Anyone that has wrestled HWT or 215 can tell u there is more going on than they are given credit for. Very true! Try stepping on the mat with a guy 70 lbs heavier than you and see how much "Quality" time you have during that 6 minutes! LOL! Ask Daniel Meyer from Bellmont. He just won his conference tourny at hwt and only weighs 195! That was probably because he's athletic and knew how to do actual wrestling moves. That's more than most heavyweights are able to do.
  7. If they add a weight class around 200-240 lbs I will puke. There is so much less quality wrestling around those weights.
  8. If he is that big the football coach will want him. The only person I have seen that has been able to be good at wrestling and good at football in this area is Aris Allen. I watched Tyquan Hammock make it to semi-state two years ago when he was a Soph at 215 and he looked like he could wrestle and play football. Had he stuck with it he would, I believe, easily be standing on the podium at state this year, if not last year as well. As usual, football won out and Luers was deprived of a superb athlete not being on the mat.
  9. I saw on the results page where Nix (Bish Dwenger) beat Lovejoy (Luers) by disqualification. Anyone have the story on this match?
  10. Did the matches scheduled from last week (Carroll vs Norwell - 1/13 - and Dekalb vs Columbia City - 1/14) occur or were they moved to this week due to weather? If so, when are those bouts scheduled?
  11. Y2 - Maybe my persepctive is a little different. My Dad, due to lifelong health issues he suffered from before he passed away, was able to only see a very few of my high school matches. I would have loved for him to be involved in the sport I excelled at but it wasn't in the cards. So now, when my son speaks with me in the stands for a brief few moments, I don't push him away. I enjoy the bond but don't take advantage of it. As far as comparing football to wrestling, it's apples to oranges.
  12. I agree that the kids should be on the sideline cheering their teammates on either during weekend tourney's or duals. However, I don't mind when my son, usually a couple of matches after his, walks up into the stands and spends one or two minutes talking about his match with me. He quickly vacates and goes back to the sidelines to cheer his teammates on. I don't see a big problem with that.
  13. 215 Mills HS (Fall) 285 Foster HS (Fall) 103 Bowman HS (Fall) 112 Franklin HS (Tech Fall) 119 Rushing HS (Dec) 125 Smith HS (Dec) 130 Larowe EN (Fall) 135 March EN (Fall) 140 Krock EN (Dec) 145 Conley EN (Fall) 152 Moore EN (Maj Dec) 160 Natusch HS (Dec) 171 Hope HS (Dec) 189 Carter HS (Fall)
  14. Y2, I wasn't saying that I knew all NHC schedules, I was just saying that making up a bunch of cancellations the week before NHC conf, in my mind, wouldn't be great for preparation. If I were were a coach, I'd like that week free of duals. Pound the kids hard for one last week before the post season because once that starts, it's a mental and physical meat grinder. However, I'm no coach so my opinion in these matters should be taken with a grain of salt.
  15. The NHC Conf Tourney is next weekend and I believe that most of those teams would like a week of pure preparation in the wrestling room rather than have to mess with a dual meet where a guy only can wrestle a max of 6 mins on a particular day as opposed to a couple of hours. Additionally, the conf tourney sets off the post season run so I think having all duals and tourneys wrapped up before the week before conf is vital to the NHC. However, other conferences are running their tourneys this weekend so it might not matter as much as I think.
  16. Snider v Homestead is cancelled tonite
  17. Thanks Y2, it is a cool addition to their site, just can't determine conference records from it.
  18. Does anybody know the results of the New Haven v Norwell (scheduled for 12/4) and the Columbia City v Norwell (scheuled for 12/18) duals? Were they postponed due to weather top be made up at a later date? If so, when. If anybody can provide more than just team scores (actual results is what I'm looking for), it would be appreciated. Thanks
  19. How the heck do you get 336 takedowns in one season?? Even if you get 50 matches in a season, which is on the high end, thats still averaging a little more than 6 takedowns a match. That's amazing.
  20. I know I'm a heretic for what I'm about to say but I have very little interest in team state especially when it coincides with the indivdual post season. I remember a couple of years ago Austen Ruich of Carroll probably would have rolled to a state appearance when he got injured in team regionals. He couldn't make it out of individual regionals due to the injury. The only way I'd get truly excited about team state is if it occurred after the individual tournys were out of the way which I don't think could happen because it would extend the season too long. I'm sure I'll get ripped for this post but it's what I believe. That being said, no one will stop Mishawaka.
  21. Who went 5-0 on the day at the Whitko Invite?
  22. I hope they never add a 240 lb weight class. Why do you think most people at a tournament leave after 215? Heavyweights are boring to watch. I know there are always going to be great athletes at that weight class (Chico Adams, etc.) but a lot of them have barely any idea how to wrestle. They just flop around on each other until one of them goes to his back or they lumber around the mat and bump into eachother until one of them somehow manages to win. I'd rather watch two 103 lbers fly around the mat at least attempting to execute actual wrestling moves than heavyweights just try to use their weight to win a match.
