  1. Shaking the opponents hand and then the opposing coach only shows respect and it is a tradition that needs to be continued. The sportsmanship and comradarie we have witnessed by these young wrestlers has been something that has attracted us to the sport. What started as support for our grandsons has now blossomed into a genuine love for the sport of wrestling. To see 2 young men going all out against one another and then pass by each other after a hard-fought match and shake hands or even a brief hug or chest-bump has become a wonderful thing to watch. These guys "get it" they know what it takes to be out there on that mat. It would be a shame to see if a no-shaking trend develops and spreads to other schools. What is wrong with shaking the opposing coaches hand? I noticed earlier this year at a dual meet where the opponents did not cross the mat and shake our coaches hand and wondered why not. I think it may have been New Castle and I think there may have been a thread about the subject earlier this year. These coaches deserve respect and that is a good thing to cultivate in our younger generation. I would be interested if anyone would be inclined to share their views on this subject once again. Why would you not shake hands?
  2. How does Tuxedo=Business?? If anything a tuxedo equals opulence and class.
  3. Dusty Kief from Franklin Community High School!! I think he was the only unranked wrestler in the finals. He wrestled very well all day and was impressive. This young man was a very much improved wrestler from last season. Nice job Dusty!!
  4. It will be great wrestling at 119 as well as 112 and all the other wgt classes. I can see both Kieffers in the finals on Sat night and I am definetly buying a season ticket for all 3 sessions! Tony Bell from Roncalli looks good to me also and could go all the way! Who beat who and who dominated who is all over now except in the minds of the wrestlers. Both Kieffers KNOW they can beat anybody else in their weight class. They have confidence and ability. The quest all season was to make it to STATE and now it comes down to who wants it the worst. All these boys are very talented and have put in a lot of hard work all year long.My hats off to all the boys!! Look for an old fart with a gray flat-top and a Kieffer shirt on.Please come up and tell me your screen name so I can put a face with you name. My wife thinks I am completly"ate up" with wrestling but I sure have enjoyed the season and I love this discussion board. Keep up the good work all of you that make it possible.

  6. To old82---I hope your Justin wins if mine doesn't. There are 3 Justins at 119 one of them shopuld win-the odds are in their favor!
  7. The upper bracket where my grandson {Kieffer}landed looks really tough. He starts off with Raley the state champ@103 last year and then faces last years runner-up Kenny or another state qualifier in Petrov. After those matches it stays tough as he goes up against another state runner-up Eppert and or state placer in Brooks. Then when he gets to the final it's another state champ in Brandon Wright. I don't see Wright getting upset,if he does that is one tuff wrestler. There are 2 wrestlers in the upper half of the 119 bracket I did not see last year at the state tour. Another poster had it correct--this weight class is insane! If he wins this weight class I think I'll take him to Cozumel for Spring break! He will have earned it!!
  8. will there be anybody with IndianaMat shirts at New Castle? or how about at Conseco?
  9. I dont believe there will be any anti-climatic finals match at team state. I think the bottom bracket has plenty of firepower and will provide a good match for whatever team survives the top bracket. I sure would like to see a Marion County finals and I believe it could be Cathedral --Perry with any luck and you know those Irish they do get lucky sometimes. ;D
  10. The last time Roncalli met New Castle was Dec.13 at NC. I believe the match went into the last matchup with Roncalli ahead and then losing by 2 pts.I can't remember the entire New Castle line-up so I won't predict a final score but I do see Roncalli winning this time. The Roncalli team has really improved thru-out the year and I expect the NC boys have also.I just feeI like our boys did not wrestle their very best last time and they are going to be ready to advance. This team match-up alone will be worth the trip to Seymour and the Rebels advance to Center Grove!!
  11. Congrats to Coach Hasseman. Franklin Community has a great program thanks to his hard work.
  12. there will be a Kieffer in the finals------possibly 2 or 3
  13. I have a few questions for the coaches on the board. Do you keep tabs on the GPA of all wrestlers in your program? Would you know for instance the cummulative GPA of varsity wrestlers? What do you do to encourage continual scholastic progress? How do you discipline the "slackers" Do you feel there is a disadvantage or advantage either way that a teacher/coach/school employee has over a volunteer coach from outside the school system?
  14. I would have to rank Tyler Willis @ 160 very high due to the weight class he wrestles. I also like Joe Kieffer @125 from Roncalli. Along with Mullens these are the top frosh I have seen so far.
  15. I've always thought Lake County should be considered part of Illinois and just compete in the Illinois tournaments. Is there anybody else who ever thought this?? LoL ;D
  16. Wasn't Samuels given a late reversal to beat Blackwell by 1 pt? I was there and it was a wonderful match that I agree maybe should have been for the championship but I would also agree the blind draw system for the state finals is probably the best system.I would hate to hev the responsibility of seeding all those great, qualified wrestlers in each class where would you start and how would you finish?? I know one thing and that is I will be holding my breath if any of my grandsons make it to state again just to see the draw because it can be such a mental thing.
  17. This question and poll is very interesting and it yet again proves why this board is so interesting and entertaining. The actual question of whether it is ethical is kind of misleading and I see we have many differing opinions already.I started school in Nevada at age 5 and graduated at 17 I have always wondered what that year would have done for my matuity both physical and mental. I did not really consider the question that much when my own children started school as both were born close to the first of the year.My wife and I have discussed the matter many times since then and agree we should have maybe waited on one child who was reaaly small for his age. I think the real dicrepencies in maturity creep into the issue when one child starts early and another child is held back by his parents to mature more. These two individuals could be close to two years apart and that could be a real issue. This has always been the case though and it will always be. I don't see a ethical question at all it just a parental choice that a parent can make as to their own child.
  18. Justadadnow----- I expect the 3 Kieffer boys to make the finals along with Dickey at 130,Williams at 152 ,Lutgring at 160 and Bell at 285 and that is seven total so I was hedging a little when I predicted 6 to make the finals before.
  19. Joe Kieffer is the youngest at 125,He is a freshman this year and I predict that he will climb to the top spot on the podium at New Pal on Sat along with his brothers. I beleive Roncalli will have at least 6 in the finals at new Pal.
  20. Yorktown was very impressive at New Castle 12/13 .They have a very solid lineup very good at upper weight classes.
  21. What is the format of the New Pal invite? Is it a seeded tournament?
  22. I also have the Home page bookmarked and I like the format. Good job!
