  2. The Zionsville Wrestling Program is excited to announce that Doug Welch will take over as head coach. The native of Newburgh, IN was the IHSAA State champion at 152lbs. in 2011, IHSAA State Runner-up in 2010, and 5th at the IHSAA State finals as a sophomore for Castle High School. He continued his career at Purdue University where he was an NCAA Qualifier and ranked as high as 9th in the country at 157lbs. While competing for the Boilermakers, Coach Welch won the team's Boiler Up Tough Award, was an academic all-Big Ten selection, and was Purdue's male recipient of the Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Award. We are excited to have a talented young coach like Doug Welch that will eat, sleep, and breathe Zionsville Wrestling for years to come and do things the right way. Congrats Doug and welcome aboard!

  5. First, a medical redshirt was looked at as a possibility because Cashe did miss significant time during his redshirt year with injury. But, it would have been a gamble.

Quality wins since 08-09: Nikki Triggas AA, James Nicholson AA, Chris Dardanes AA, Zach Horan AA to name a few.

Regarding Wrestle offs, I believe it is the coach's responsibility to choose the line up that gives his team the best chance to win, like every other sport.

  6. Just so people are aware, last year Cashe had a serious staph infection that put him in a hospital for 2 weeks and then he couldn't walk on his own for 6 weeks after that. He had his knee scoped in January. So, he wrestled at Big Tens with around 10 matches under his belt and never never being able to put more than 2 weeks of solid training together without injury.

So, before we all jump on the Ayersman bandwagon (who didn't place at the MSU Open yesterday losing to 2 people I've never heard of), realize wrestle offs are overrated by most people in determining who the starter should be. You see a guy every day in practice and you can keep it close.

I wrestled at Purdue and wish all Boilers the best. But, lets not get ahead of ourselves. Cashe has proven numerous times he can compete with the best in the country. A wrestle off win doesn't mean crap.

  7. We still have some spots available for this camp. It really is a great opportunity to learn from some great coaches and wrestle with some studs from across the country. And, you can't beat the price. $100 for 5 sessions with D1 coaches with a combined 8 NCAA Titles and an Olympic Medal.

  8. Lawrence North will be hosting a camp on May 21-22. It is a 2 day camp, 5 sessions, for $100. The following clinicians will each do one session over the two days.

Mark Perry (current Univ. of Illinois asst coach, 2 X NCAA Champ for Iowa)

Carl Perry (former Univ. of Illinois asst. coach, NCAA Champ)

Joe Dubuque (current IU asst. coach, 2 X NCAA Champ)

Scott Hinkel (Purdue head coach, NCAA All-American)

Nate Carr (3 X NCAA Champ, Olympic Bronze Medalist)

This is an outstanding opportunity to learn from great wrestlers and coaches at a price you can't beat. We have studs from all over the country coming in that will also be great practice partners during the camp.

If you are interested, email me and I will send you the information/registration sheet.

    Camp Schedule

    Session II: 1-3PM

    Session III: 4:30-6:30PM

    Sunday 5/22

  9. IU assistant coach Joe Dubuque will be running the LN RTC tomorrow (Thursday 4/28)

    Joe Dubuque -

    2 X NCAA Champion

    3 X NCAA All-American

Let's have a great room for Coach Dubuque. This a great opportunity to learn from a outstanding coach.

    6-7:30pm

    Enter door 7 or 11.

  10. Nathan Boston is 2-0 and in the quarters against the #1 seed. He pinned an Ohio kid and beat Dalton Macri of PA (was 5th at Super 32) 6-3. Not sure how the other Indiana guys are doing. I'll post when I get a chance to look at the updated brackets.

  11. Nathan has accepted a full athletic scholarship to wrestle for the Indiana University Hoosiers!

As far as I know, it's unprecedented for a freshman to receive that type of offer from a big time program in the sport of wrestling. We are all very proud of what you've accomplished and this is a testament to the hard work you've put in and the sacrifices you've made up to this point. Congrats to you and your family! You've earned it.
