  1. Roncalli's Davis, Josh Kieffer and Justin Kieffer all win titles by fall
  2. Roncalli has a 30 point or so lead on 2nd place Warren heading into wrestlbacks and championship matches. The following are the championship matchups: 103 Davis ® vs Barajas (FC) 112 Kieffer ® vs Kemp (FC) 119 Kieffer ® vs Mooreland (WC) 125 Kieffer ® vs Williams (SH) 130 Odom (WC) vs Dickey ® 135 Williams (MV) vs Pearson (NP) 140 Decker (WC) vs Varga (GC) 145 Waldroup (NP) vs Bartley ® 152 Jennings (NP) vs Larner (SH) 160 Durphey (SH) vs Holaway (GC) 171 Phelps (NP) vs Gruell (GC) 189 Johnson-Jones (WC) vs Dyson (BG) 215 Berry (WC) vs Halbert (NP) 285 Bell ® vs White (WC)
  3. Patascil is a demon on top. He punishes his opponents.
  4. I don't really think Arlovski exposed Fedor. Fedor picked his spot, like he's always done. Plus, Arlovski is one of the 4 or 5 best HWTs in the world. Fedor put him to sleep with a pinpoint punch. Fedor wins by skill much more than natural ability. He is equally dominant on the ground or his feet. People said Fujita exposed Fedor when he rocked him with a punch--Fedor finished him soon thereafter. Randleman suplexes Fedor on his head--Fedor submits him quickly thereafter. CroCop starts landing some counters to Fedor--Fedor puts him on the ground and controls him. Everyone says Minotauro will submit Fedor if it goes to the ground--Fedor stays in Nogueira's guard for basically the entire fight and lands some of the most brutal GnP in MMA history. Lindland gets underhooks and tries to suplex Fedor--Fedor reverses him in midair and ends up in a dominant position when they hit the ground. Anyway, my point is that Fedor really doesn't have any known weakness. He can be cut, like every person, but he can also fight through a nasty cut, like he did with Lindland. I don't think he's going to slow down any time soon. Unlike Minotauro, he hasn't taken a bunch of poundings. He's ended most of his fights pretty quickly. Also, Penn never fought in Pride. He did beat Gomi, a 155, and Gomi is good, but the fight was in Hawaii and just 2 months after Gomi lost to Hansen. GSP has beat far better competition IMO.
  5. Ouch! Perry losing to Rella ain't good for the cause. Perry is great when he's on, but he has lapses like this. Great win for Powless, though. He's really coming on.
  6. Fedor didn't actually lose by cut, at least not in the traditional sense. He was cut by an illegal elbow 17 seconds into the fight, but the fight was part of a tournament, and RINGS needed someone to advance, which obviously Fedor could not do. So, basically, he didn't really lose at all. No one has ever beat him, even by a fortunate cut. Not only is he world-class in sambo and judo, his punches are as accurate and powerful as anyone in MMA. I think he is a good choice for #1 on the p4p list, and I laugh when I see experts like Josh Gross say that Anderson Silva would beat him. My p4p is: 1. The Last Emperor, 2. GSP, 3. Spider Silva, 4. Penn, 5. Torres/Evans
  7. Agreed. That's a huge bummer about Lovitt and Rutledge. Both are awesome wrestlers and were very likely to place well at Conseco.
  8. Vallimont came back and beat Manual the next day at 165, so I think Young's win was fully legit. He looked great. I'll be shocked if Jaggers techs Kelly or Andrae. He has one techfall this year, versus a Cumberland wrestler. I do think Jaggers will win, though, possibly by a major. IU should win at 125, 157 (although Nemec will not be a pushover) and 174, with realistic chances to win at 197 and HWT. As solid as Young is, it would be a large upset to beat Sponsellor.
  9. Machida is still relatively unproven. His big win is Tito, which is fairly impressive, but it doesn't mean what it would've meant 5 years ago. I think he has a great chance to beat Thiago (another relatively unproven fighter with a great W/L record), but that doesn't mean he'd beat Liddell, Rampage, Forrest or Evans. I root against Machida because of his style. While his ducking, side-stepping and dodging is good for his self-preservation, I think it sucks for fans. I would hate for his style to become the norm in MMA. I think GSP will win. He's the best athlete in MMA and his training is second to none. The only clear advantage I see for BJ is with offensive submissions. I think BJ is a quicker, better puncher, but GSP has a wider variety of effective strikes, and his kicks are far ahead of Penn's--they are basically even on their feet. George is among the very best takedown and control guys in MMA; no doubt he'll put Penn on his back eventually. GSP is such a hard worker; I think he's improved more than Penn since their last bout, which was incredibly close. I see a very close fight, with GSP winning 3 rounds to 2 due to his takedown and control and superior conditioning.
  10. That kid is a man-child. I couldn't believe the raw talent he showed last year. It looks like all he needs is mat experience.
  11. Raley is very deserving of some serious acknowledgment. As Y2 mentioned earlier, though, national success is HUGE in the eyes of college recruiters. Again, this whole thing is very subjective and it depends on what each of us value, in terms of what makes someone 'the best'. In addition to the lack of recent national involvement by Raley (It's a shame he didn't participate in the Scholastic Duals--Kenney, who Raley beat for his state title, did a great job, so I'm sure Raley would've also), it also probably slightly counts against him that his title was at 103, against mainly underclassmen. I'm not knocking him or anyone else on the list or not on the list--he's a great wrestler, no doubt about it. I think he deserves props for being an elite wrestler at a non-traditional power high school, and one that is very small to boot.
  12. This is what I submitted, along with the reasons for my selections.... 1. Christopher Quiroga--I don't think anyone, no matter what part of the state you are from, can dispute this. Cashe has had the best regular season of any wrestler. By best, I mean the most big wins. He's had some success nationally as well, especially at the Scholastic Duals this past summer. 2. McMurray-He brings serious national accomplishments along with 2 state placements, including a state title. He's in a man's weight class and has wrestled a tough schedule. 3. Tsirtsis-He's not such a Johnny-come-lately. He has a national reputation (ranked in all-classes by WIN--the only freshman ranked at 125). He's beaten Wright a couple of times in the past calendar year and he's wrestled a brutal schedule. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins a state title this year. 4. Wright-Maybe the best national credentials of any current Indiana wrestler. I can't penalize him too much b/c he lost to two great wrestlers (#1 & 3 in my book) and I would rather a kid seek out the best competition and lose occasionally then have a sparkling, undefeated record full of lesser opponents. He's gonna be tough to oust at 119, although personally I feel that is the state's strongest, deepest weight class. 5. Duckworth-No one talks about him, but he's a strong favorite to win his first title this year at a man's weight class, as Y2 is fond of saying. He also has strong national credentials. I really hope he and Atwood get a chance to decide the winner under the lights. 6. Sandefer-Mandefer just wins, baby. Who's gonna beat him? Maybe McGinley, Surma, Stahl or Sims? He'll have some tests, but he's a defending champ for a reason. I put him here because he has 6 wins vs. the top-12 in his weight, versus 0 losses. 7. Roach-I probably should've had Roach higher, coming off of his huge win over Illinois' Holmes. The defending runner-up is a strong favorite at 135, although there are a half dozen or so kids who are capable of beating him. Excellent national credentials here as well. 8. Shrewsbury-He kind of gets overlooked, but CP wrestles a very challenging schedule and Shrews just continues to amass the wins. Y2 has won me over with the argument about wrestling at the higher weights. I think he's as big a favorite as there is, with the exception of maybe Chalfant. Also has strong national cred. 9. Runyan-It seems like he's been doing this forever, but Runyan has been dominant in Indiana this year, again, wrestling at a heavier weight. He doesn't have the same national credentials as some of the guys ranked above him, but I think he'll nab a title this year, although Myers will present a strong challenge. 10. Harper-It's kind of blasphemous to have Harp this low, but the strength of his candidacy is his 4 year domination of Indiana. Like Runyan, he's lacking elite-level national credentials, but few wrestlers in the history of Indiana wrestling have been as consistent. He has the 2 losses this year, including one by fall (although it's hard to penalize anyone too much for getting pinned by Cook's cradle). Still the favorite at 130, in my mind anyway.
  13. Thank you all very much. It means a lot coming from all of you. This is a great site and I'm very glad that I can occasionally contribute to it.
  14. You just have to ask someone where the Media check-in is. Richard will have contacted the school's AD by the time you get there, if you've spoken with him. You show your ID and you get in free.
  15. Ruggeri hit the lateral drop several times in the state series. Dude was as slick a HWT as you will see in Indiana, and Indiana has produced some really good HWTs in recent years.
  16. The broadcasts are strong but Chertow needs to check his biases at the arena door when he walks in to announce. Although he was a little better by the end of the PSU/IU match, early in the broadcast he repeatedly demeaned IU wrestlers while praising PSU's wrestlers.
  17. My favorites are Tsirtsis, Dolly and Kinser. BTW, Jay Borschel's moustache is the equal of Dennis' moustache. Those are some intense lip growths.
  18. Haha...ok, I can't argue with that. I know Cannelton and Tell City are very close.
  19. You're right, it's Adam Morisson-like in its hideousness.
