If my memory serves me correct, one of the best stories I can recall was Abe Martinez from Gavit High School. I want to say he was a 3rd placer at the Sectional back when they only took the top 2. Someone could not wrestle at the Regional so he was the alternate and filled the vacant spot. He caught fire and I believe he ended up placing at State. Maybe Coach Jay of Matburns can help me with the details seeing that he bleeds the purple and gold of the Gladiators!

If this coach injury defaulted his kid, when he was not in fact injuried, just to make sure he got the best possible draw to make a trip back to the State Finals. Then I will be the first to say that that coach lacks INTEGRITY.

Hey Dolph I am sure if he asked he could find plenty of play by play guys out there. Hats off to them for just even being there though. Nice to see wrestling getting a little coverage. Unfortunately I believe the girls start their tournament series and the werstling coverage will get bumped.

Vlade had to withdraw due to a medical reason. I believe it was a bad laceration to his hand. Not sure the specifics, but he did not participate today.

I would like to take a minute and applaud Chuck Barnett. I spoke to him Sunday at the Crown Point kids tournament. I found out that he passed up on tickets to the AFC Championship Game being played in Indy to ref on Sunday. NOW thats dedication!

I am gonna have to beg to differ OTR, ECC Sectional can probably be right up there with Calumet with the amount of changes Saturday morning.

GrecoCoach, Wow. That is something I wish the IHSAA could have sent out. It would have been nice to do that at other Sectionals. Nice idea to set up everything so that pigtail matches are against lower seeds.

Using some of the logic I am seeing posted here, you would have to tip your hat to the Shelbyville coach for trying to assure that his wrestler gets the best possible shot at making it to Semi-State or beyond. I am not saying the critera is the best to use, but it is the critera layed out in the winter bulletin.

If my memory serves me right, Coach Vlink has been coaching for about 20+ years, I don't believe Maldonado has. Don't get me wrong, he is a great coach, but so is Dave so, let's give him a few years to get that Championship as well.
