  1. upset?? lol... why would you assume I'm upset? my debate is that it's unfair to seed wrestlers ahead of others that have placed here based on another event. why would I have to be upset to believe that? it's by far the predominant standard of seeding
  2. you sure about that? just a glance at the brackets IL kids with high seeds that didn't qualify for state but did well at the harvest last year isn't this is the second or third year they've seeded this way?
  3. no I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying that as it is at all elite events #1 criteria should be previous appearance at that event. it makes the seeding far more objective. in an earlier post it was mentioned that this format, which they just started last year, was to attract teams. doing that makes it far less objective and more subjective by adding variables to the process that have nothing to do with the al smith. so any other tournament as primary criteria is not only unfair to returning performers but also to the tournament itself. the state finish would be a good #2 criteria.
  4. at the al smith absolutely. state finals would be a good #2 criteria. I'm sure that's how the al smith did it 2 years ago. you will have kids seeded lower than kids they beat at this tournament last year. I'd like to know if anyone can name an event other that the al smith that doesn't use returning placers at that event as 1st criteria. I've never been to one. and this is exactly my point at great tournament does not use a different tournament to seed itself. no one is saying they can't do what they want, and I'm not sure what the state tournament being seeded or not has to do with it.... the ihssa doesn't run the al smith. really?? lol yeah I hadn't thought of that good.... point? wow...
  5. making #1 criteria a different event is by nature subjective. there are also many other variables when going outside the current event for #1 criteria specially when that event is 2 months later in the year. opinions should be way down the list along with how the event actually playes out. seeds should be earned. this current criteria doesn't reward past al smith performance. al smith has been a prestige's tournament for years and now is taking a back seat in it's own back yard. not sure how this format would attract teams
  6. @145 Crary 3x finalist gives up the one seed to a 1x 4th place finisher
  7. last year champ should. there will be lower placing al smith kids from 2015 seeded ahead of al smith finalists and champs from 2015. that's... well... ridiculous. can't ever remember a tournament that used a different event as #1 criteria. unless it was a first year event or event qualifier
  8. great idea... so a kid could be a three time champ here but placement at a different tournament takes precedence. yeah good... glad that wasn't my idea
  9. While adding my roster into track it looks like #1 criteria is state place over placement at Al Smith. is that correct?
  10. And why exactly was this postponed??? it may end up "postponed" again... This was an "open" holiday date Munster will have several unavailable including their head coach. very interested to know why this was cancelled on such short notice( 2 days). I'll be going to the conference supervisor and state comish about this as well.
  11. Is the Nov 4-6 date an eligible tournament for Indiana HS wrestlers this year? Do we go by first competition date, or first practice date?
  12. Very COOL!! Congratulations to Jer and the entire family!! I know Mom and Dad must be very proud!! A great day for Griffith wrestling!
  13. We don't have high participation numbers at our high school. But I've already proposed something similar to our AD bringing in a high profile clinician to do some freestyle camps and incorporate some other training activities where the kids compete not only wrestling but in cross fit type stuff to make it more interesting. I've involved several of the older kids as well to give them some ownership in promoting. getting some good response so far. baseball is tough to go up against in our community though.
  14. Wait, What? So "for starters" limiting conversation topics, or free speech will help??
  15. Well put. I don't think anyone has to go out on a limb to understand that the failure of the ISWA to right the ship came from desire to do the right thing, at some point. Even in my present situation, of having two boys who just returned to practice this week from documented injury yet were ridiculously passed off by the ISWA, I've tried to see their path. Yet, after we see what is clearly last minute scrambling with "midweek mayhem" and "studapalooza", we also clearly see, that's it's not about "the kids", but about "some of the kids". And I suppose mine aren't "some of the kids", so we are out as a result. We've been long time ISWAer's as well, going on 10 years now. Apparently our dedication doesn't account for much. it did get us a good slap in the face though. We've not spent a single year in wrestling that we didn't start working on freestyle after we were done with folkstyle usually after cedar falls. My suggestion: If it's truly about "the kids" then abandon any type of qualifying and allow ALL to compete. until then "about the kids" is just gas.
  16. Coach makes some excellent points. But I'd be very surprise if anyone's goal was to "hurt" the ISWA. The only way individuals that feel "wronged" by establishment of any kind, to voice their displeasure is through protest, in this case boycott. So while it's difficult to disagree with coach hull and the fact that the boycott path hurts the kids and Indiana wrestling first and foremost. History has shown absolutely that if your not prepared to step out of line for what you believe in, NOTHING will change. Least of all establishment. I was not really in favor of this "boycott" until the ISWA "process" hit me at home. And I'd be surprised if that wasn't the case with most, if not all, that are choosing this path. IMO it's the governing bodies responsibility to be flexible in these situations. And they have not been. Here's a crazy idea... NO QUALIFICATION necessary for freestyle state. NONE. If the number one goal is truly to have the greatest number of kids compete in freestyle, why then are the kids and their families given any challenge at all when it's come to competing???? I don't think it's a stretch to say numbers at freestyle state would be very nearly equal to folkstyle state if no qualification was necessary. I've stayed away from getting involved in this since my kids were absolutely screwed by the ISWA not granting a waiver for their documented injuries. In the beginning, I wanted to give the ISWA an opportunity to do the right thing in granting injury wavier. It's very simple. We have doctor and PT documentation but still denied. And I'm supposed to respect that type of irresponsible leadership from our governing body??? It's pathetic. But, this is just my story, and my sons are only two Indiana wrestlers. But both want to have an opportunity to compete if they are physically able. From where I sit, it would appear to be a simple case of indifference. Granted, appearance can be deceiving, until it's consistent. And if nothing else it has been consistent. Allowing these "situational qualifiers" is nothing less than a slap in the face to those kids that have legitimate situations that don't allow them to compete or qualify. So, PRAY TELL. What, EXACTLY, would be the worst case scenario of no qualifying for freestyle state??? And would it even approach this debacle?
  17. RWA is still pushing freestyle based on the fact that it will just make you a more complete wrestler. So that's our goal, regardless of any ridiculous sanctioning bodies ignorance. A philosophy I, and I'm sure most others, absolutely agree with. My two aren't back to full practice yet, but we're right there. So freestyle is it for us now with the central regional May 20 in Kalamazoo, as was recommended to me by the ISWA in the breath after the waiver I requested due to injury was denied. Not gonna slow our roll due to the ISWA's "plan". Just an adjustment and a LESSON LEARNED. Fool me once...
  18. And yet I was denied a waiver with a documented medical condition. I like the word pathetic here. an embarrassment would fit as well. And if what your saying is true, lets throw in hypocrisy. If it were offered free to all today I'd take a pass.
  19. Okay I've flip flopped a bit on this issue. But now I'm done with freestyle as far as the ISWA goes. And for good. And i'll recommend the same going forward. Both my sons had injuries at folkstyle state one shoulder another ankle. both were forced to stay home from cedar falls and both were also forced to miss scholastic duels opportunities in Crawfordsville this weekend. Neither has been released from the doctors care and are currently rehabbing. Even though neither may be ready by the first weekend in May I wrote the ISWA for a waiver given the fact that neither will have an opportunity to qualify due to their injuries. I was told NO. I have all the documentation needed from their doctors yet still NO. Two kids that want to compete and are physically unable to qualify yet cant get a waiver. No waiver even in the case of medical issues is unacceptable. It shouldn't be this difficult to compete. Just avoid these ridiculous issues and forget that the ISWA has a freestyle event.
  20. exactly! got me too. Well played on April 1st!!!
  21. Big shout out to RWA for finishing 5th as a team at Cedar Falls, competing with 17 wrestlers. Not too shabby boys! Congratulations to the wrestlers and coaches! RWA PRIDE!!
  22. LOL so that explains the high winds today. A lot of swings and misses.
  23. sorry dude. IMO a swing and miss on drew hughes as 2nd runner up. Red is #1 at 132 and won his 4th. But hughes has done it all this season both during and after the hs season. he has been a road warrior as well maxing out his frequent flyer miles "making weight" and winning. Getting his college plans set hasn't slowed him down either. There is NO "dig me" in this kid. For me if there's a face of IN wrestling the we project to the national wrestling community in 2016 I'll take Drew Hughes! All that and a bag a chips!!
  24. of course there would. But I'd be surprised if any wrestler invited to this event in it's history has missed weight.
