  1. According to Chicago area Comcast.... Monday 3/9/09 at 1:00PM CST (2PM Indianapolis time) Tuesday 3/10/09 at 9:00AM CST Saturday 3/14/09at 6:00PM CST
  2. You could also get the 4th point if the defensive wrestler was bleeding and caused the match to be stopped after the 3 point criteria had been met
  3. The region is comprised of multiple counties though right? Don't take me too seriously, just giving you a hard time. just two, lake and porter. and porter county only has 4 schools that have wrestling programs. 5 now... Hebron started their program last year (Portage, Valparaiso, Chesterton & Boone Grove)
  4. Championships starting on the BTN right now!
  5. Isn't that about the same as saying that you're taller than Huelsman?
  6. Y2 and Karl Hungas on the floor together? IndianaMat has arrived! Thanks for the updates guys. I see that they will broadcast on the BTN tomorrow, Sunday, at 1:00PM CST.
  7. Team Indiana still needs to line up approximately 6 score table workers for the IN/IL event to be held at Wabash College on Sunday, March 15, 2:00PM EST. If you happen to know of any officials, or just wrestling fans, who might be planning to attend this event and might be willing to work a score table, please have them contact Coach Trent McCormick ASAP. We will need to get your name and shirt size, so we can order you an event t-shirt. Unfortunately, there isn?t any pay involved, so please understand that it would be a volunteer position. There is a brunch before the event that you would be more than welcome to attend and if you enjoy wrestling you'll have the best seat in the house!!!!! Trent McCormick tmccormick@yorktown.k12.in.us
  8. Congrats... Purdue landed a good one. Much success Braden, but don't forget to get that officiating license somewhere down the road
  9. Absolutely no offense taken on my part, and I don't think there would be by any other officials....northern or southern. Although your knowledge of how it works is evident, I still thought there was a good question in there, and one that has been asked of me many times, so it was a good forum to post a response/explanation for the masses. It's true... we need more officials and we need them from everywhere. I'm still thinking that we can talk that Comcast guy that use to coach at Lowell in to donning the stripes
  10. You can officiate the Team state finals once every 4 years. Once you call the Team state the next year you cannot do the team series at all. The following year you could work only to the Team Regional level, then the Team SS level, and then back to the Team State. With the elimination of the Team SS you will now only do the Team Regional for the 2nd & 3rd year, and then back to Team State in the 4th year. That could change, but that's the way it is for now. You can work the Individual state for 2 years in a row, and then you have to sit out for at least 2 years. That being said, you can work one of the state finals 3 out of every 4 years, and this was Greg's year to do neither. Last year he worked team State, this year he was out, and next year he will be eligible to work the individual finals again. Two first time officials work the Individual state finals each year. Although there's no set number, 1-3 first time guys usually work into the Team state each time. Having this rotation insures that experienced officials earn their way back in each year, but it also gives other guys a chance to advance in as well.
  11. First of all, there are only 12 officials at the Individual state finals (13 only if you count the supervisor of officials) Also, Pete Schroeder is from the south side of Indianapolis (Perry Twp) , Jon Hammond and Frankie Medvescek are from the south side of 40 in Plainfield 129 officials applied for the sectional, and 7 pulled out for one reason or another prior to the tournament. Of the 122 remaining applicants 21 were from "the south" if you define Hwy 40 across the state as a north/south dividing line. A few others live in Greenwood, Plainfield, Terre Haute, etc., so for arguements sake we can say they are not from northern Indiana. Of those 21 from the southern part of the state, only two were eligible to work the individual state finals... Steve Anslinger, Evansville, and John Gillespie, Bloomington. A few other sectional officials from the south that have state finals experience were not eligible this year. That list includes Greg Moe, Sulphur (recently relocated from north of Ft Wayne), Glen Crocker, Lawrenceburg area, Orlando Fontanez, Greensburg, and Kevin Huelsman, Jasper. The others were not eligible. Advancing in the state tournament series is based on several criteria: 1. The official's GPA based on coaches ratings 2. Scoring at least 90% on the Part II test 3. Having at least 10 votes to work a sectional, 15 to work a SS, and 20 to work the state finals 4. At least 5 varsity matches 5. Strength of schedule Unfortunately, the number of officials in Indiana is a direct positive correlation to the population of the state... most of the people and officials are from Indianapolis or above. Being a southern Indiana boy from Princeton, my current Valparaiso residence is only a label... I'm still a southerner at heart and I feel the pain! We need to recruit more new officials everywhere, especially in the south, and the schools in the south need to make sure they vote and support the officials that they know. There's a good young crop of Evansville area officials that are 3-4 years away from being state eligible... Mike Goebel, Tim Alcorn, Curtis VanNess, Jacob Holtz, Aaron Wyatt, Andy Chandler, Rob Clausheide, and Brian Hays. That number goes down as fast as it goes up, though, when Fontanez and Crocker have basically retired, Gillespie, Pat Babcock, and Mac Dubbs are past 55, and Anslinger, Huelsman and others have kids that are getting to the age that dad wants to watch rather than officiate (the same reason that retired Scott Wallis and Mark Mastison 2 years ago). It's a numbers game...........
  12. Congrats Coach Atwood and Delphi.... you represented your school and community well
  13. I've attended all 14 Team Staet events, and this was definately the most exciting and evenly matched across the board. Congrats to Coach Vlink and the Bulldogs, as well as Coach Tonte and the Falcons, for a great final. The semis were even more exciting, as Cathedral and astle represented well. If you were a fan, coach, or wrestler, you definately got your $8 worth today!
  14. Correct... no weigh-ins at this meet, however, they do ask that the kids are within " a reasonable" amount of their weight class. The 7 lb weight allowance I was thinking of was the Indiana/Illinois match that takes place on a state wide basis a few weeks later.
  15. This scramble may only have been topped all weekend by the Friday night match between Kieffer and Raley on Mat 1... There was a non stop scramble for about 1:20 with more whizzers than I've ever seen in one tournament, much less one match. It was sad that one of them had to lose... great match and very well officiated by the big man, Beef Faulkner!
  16. They get a very generous weight allowance... I believe 7 lbs?
  17. I'll second that.... Beside being a Steelers fan, Bill's an all around good guy and a credit to wrestling in teh region :
  18. I used the Indianamat.com brackets at the weigh-in on Friday night... much easier to read!
  19. Good luck to Drake and his family. I spoke to him after he received his award and other than being very stiff, he was in great spirits!
  20. Isn't that a potentially dangerous hold Congrats to Taylor on his win, and the mental attitude award.
  21. He did not complain whatsover... disappointed, yes, but he handled himself very well, as all Cathedral wrestlers do whether they win or lose. Good luck next Saturday!
  22. He was not DQ'd....... Pulling back the finger was determined to be an illegal hold, the injured wrestler could not continue after the two minute recovery time, and because the injured wrestler could not continue due to the illegal hold he was awarded the match by injury default. Although he lost the match he was not disqualified from further competition. Had the act been determined to be purposeful, he would have been assessed a penalty for flagrant misconduct and would have been disqualified from any further competition. He also would have had to sit out his first match next season. Both the wrestler and the coaching staff accepted their penalty in a professional manner and without question
