  1. Definite no disrespect here, I'm a proud Charlestown Pirate alum that cut my teeth in the Jeff Sectional (w/ Floyd and New Albany). I have many friends that have kids on the team and am still friends with many of the coaches in the that sectional. But the depth is not there, right now, and I think they are in for a long day Saturday.
  2. The question is why the numbers are so imbalanced as well. 86 schools feed into Evansville SS, 82 into New Castle, ECC only has 73. There is an extra Sectional worth of teams that feed into EV and NC more than the other Semi State. Ft. Wayne has 77.
  3. So 3 of the top 4 teams at 4A team state. The top 4 teams at 3A team state, and a top 4 team from 1A team state? Loaded…
  4. Not quite as big as Crawfordsville, but Jeffersonville has a large disparity as well. Take out Silver Creek whose program is only about 5 years old, and the 2 sectionals are very similar. Jeffersonville 2099 Silver Creek 913 Corydon Central 730 Charlestown 717 North Harrison 687 Crawford County 415 Clarksville 395 Providence 327 Henryville 299 Borden 214 Rock Creek Academy 176 New Washington 174
  5. It's because all the teams pass each other going opposite directions to sectionals.
  6. Isaac Campbell Floyd Central is not in sectional bracket.
  7. Maybe the best wrestler there, too.
  8. Sounds like this where Semi State should have held, not the gymnasium.
  9. The best part is that Corydon, North Harrison, and Crawford County drive past Floyd Central and New Albany to get to Jeffersonville, while Floyd and New Albany drive through Corydon to get to Southridge.
  10. Franklin was extremely young last year in a loaded sect/reg and have some good freshman coming in.
  11. Charlestown has a very good freshman class coming in, could really surprise some people,
  12. The gap between Crown Point and Brownsburg/Center Grove is not that big, was my initial point. In the early 2000's the gap between Mater Dei and the rest of Indiana wasn't even close in a dual format. And in 2003 tournament format wasn't close either. In a time and era without Academies, clubs and kids moving around to wrestle for the best programs possible, they built and developed a machine that dominated this state for a decade and did it in a school with 500 students. Crown Point is an incredible team and program, as are Brownsburg and Center Grove. All are probably better than MD was back then.... Everything is better in 2023- nutrition is better, medical care for athletes is better, the overall wrestling product is better today than it was 20 years ago. But the level of dominance over the field now vs. what they did back then is not comparable.
  13. Both are fantastic and have been fun to watch. Just my opinion but I tend to lean towards Mater Dei based on how far ahead they were of everyone else in Indiana at the time. The gap between the top 3/4 is not that great currently IMO.
  14. Mason Parris. Just a single loss in the state semi-finals to the champ at 182! Match came to the final seconds, if I remember correctly.
  15. Schoeff looked great at Evansville this past weekend.
  16. Jackson Heaston vs. Luke Rioux EV 113 Clay Guenin vs. Kyle Harden NC 170
  17. Place went nuts last year when Jared Dunn stuck Logan Miller in a headlock.
  18. How does this affect high school eligibility? Lots of top tier Indiana kids, compete for a different high school then they do for middle school, how would IHSAA handle eligibly,? Would your freshman eligibility be based off where you competed in 7/8th grade?
  19. Robert Rosbottom (Jeffersonville) and Steve Minton (New Albany) did in 1999
