Oh, they are in much better shape than IU.  That's for sure.  My point was that we aren't seeing the same success at the D1 level that we are at the lower levels.  Purdue might get a couple of guys on the podium, or they might not.  I don't see them with any locks for AA.

I say Purdue will have 2 AA. I would also like to point out the number of AA at the D-1 level that wrestled high school in Indiana. So even if you think Purdue and IU are struggling, I feel Indiana is well represented on the national stage at the D1 level.

We wrestled y'all at Lawrence North Thanksgiving 2 day tourney and you beat me in a good scrap like 7-5 our sophmore year I believe if this is Andrew?.. That was good comp there, 7 quality matches every year... Also do you remember Thadeus vs Jaggers wild match in 2000ish?

Yes! We talked to Jaggers last year at ISWA Freestyle state and talked about that match. Thad had a hard time getting his feet off the mat on his double leg!  The Lawrence central super duels were always 7 quality matches. Jaggers son and my son are the same age and weight, his boy is the reigning state champ. Its fun to see the circle of a wrestling family.

That was my senior year at my weight but I choked in ticket round like I did against your team mate Jerry Gordon my Jr year.. in 04 Naegle pinned Dosher, I remember your team mate Ervin getting Runner up at at 160... Made it worse when I had nearly teched Steckler and Beat 4th placer Branam handily iirc.. After me and Tim Bradley become buddies and training partners I never let him forget he took part in crushing my dreams in 03' coaching Jerry to the win😂

Jerry Gordan took me out Friday night in 03. lost 5-3. He was a tough kid.

  4. Watching college wrestling out on the edge of the mat is exciting! There is lots of action, and scoring which is good for the fans. It should also make things easier on the refs making calls on the edge of the mat.  What is the process for these type of rule changes? When would we know if there are any rule changes?

That's sick!!!! One the loudest I've ever heard it at the state finals and that's saying something.. Not as big of upset or close to but back in the 90s New Castle was wrestling Cathedral when Jayson Madden hit the legendary defending state champ(4x placer and Runner up) Dan Pleak with nastiest left handed headlock, and after Pleak fought his ass off and escaped , he got to his feet and  Madden hit him with the right handed Headlock and pinned him..Madden didn't even make it to state that year and wasn't until the  following season placing 4th..

I always considered Adam Doherty to be the best headlock technician to walk the earth, but Mathew Koontz may have taken the throne.

So as the tournament approaches, and the topic of this discussion, I got excited and found this video of the most exhilarating 10 seconds of my adult life. I still yell at the screen to LIFT THE HEAD!!! 😆

Everyone I know still talks about the big leftsided headlock on Mendez! Instant classic! Seems like he pinned a few top ranked guys early last year at the Perry duels too! Maybe Riley Rust and Estrada?

Here's what it looked like from my seat.

That’s interesting, the ref spoke to his coach the next season and told him that it was the worst call he has ever made and he got caught up in the moment. Maybe you had terrible seats?

  8. I have to say Thadeus Douglas needs to be on this list, he beat  a few guys mentioned on this thread, as well as a  2x all American out at Fargo. At 98 pounds, he was giving up some weight. Lost to Sheets in the semi’s from what looked like a bad call from my seat. Pound for pound the baddest around.
