I may be wrong here but with wrestle backs don’t you run into the possibility of wrestling the same kid twice in the same day??  If those two kids split matches, did you really find out who the better wrestler is that should advance??  This comes up often at sectionals.  If wrestle backs are there to get the best 4 through, you are still going to have instances where we still don’t know.

What about weight classes like 126 this year where it is loaded??   You have about 6 guys that have traded losses all year long and two are going to be left out.  I bet you don’t get the same four two weeks in a row even with wrestlebacks.  To me that is the beauty of our sport.  It is whoever is best that day.  No system is going to be perfect.

Those crazy losses are what makes it fun. Bethel upset one of the greatest Indiana wrestlers in decades and shocked the state. Sure Lee was top 5 material - but on that day in that match he didn't end up on top. I'm sure you can look at every sport and one team that is better than another gets put out and another team moves on.

No wrestlebacks.  Thats what makes SemiState round 2 so beautiful. Its very tough, and the way it should be.  No other sport can you lose at sectionals, regionals, and semi state and still be a state champ.

I, personally, like the win or go home drama the ticket round at semistate brings. It's the most fun-filled round, hands down. There will always be people we know are more deserving of getting to state than someone else, but that's the beauty of the system. Yes, the draws can be brutal to some. Yes, it's not 100 percent fair, but that's life.
Probably my favorite moment at the New Castle semistate was in the ticket round watching Dru Berkebile. This kid absolutely is better than some others moving on. He had some brace on his leg and wasn't able to bend it. He barely could get in the down position and he had to take shots practically standing up. But when he lost, knowing his career was over, he saluted the fans and moved on. I'm sure that was tough for him, in a perfect world he would be healthy and advancing to state - but he moved on. A career isn't defined by one loss.

I don’t think the current system should be changed bc a few coaches are not in favor of the current system.

I believe the current system brings the cream of the crop to the top. Handle the pressure, you move on. And yes, I see the value of seeing what a kid is made up of by coming back through the Cons bracket.....isn’t that what ISWA for?

Brad Springer 152 from Southridge had a great day!!  Beat Foster from Floyd in the Semis and then followed it up with a win over undefeated Foster from North Knox.

Michel and Schank both wrestled great today. Michel has been underrated all year and Schank keeps getting better every week. Best of luck to them next week.

Just curious to why all the picks against Michel. He is 2-0 vs semi state ranked kids. He has beat 5 kids in the semi state bracket and has beat rolley and seri who have beat fuller.

I'm old school, okay just older.....I am from the day you wouldn't have made it to SS, because they only took 3 out of Regional. Both my 11th & 12th grade years I went to SS as a 3 seed & left SS as a 4th seed. Losing junior year 4-2 to a 1 seed and beating a 1 seed as a 4 seed my senior year. Some people like being the underdog or wrestle better from that position. You are never out until the whistle blows at the end of the match!

    Evansville Central  #1, #2 and #3 seeds @ 160 go down in the semifinals.  MD's Macartney Parkinson (25-5) pinned #1 Princeton's Chase Wilson (30-3) and Ev. North's Shawn Coane (19-8) pinned both #3 North Posey's Colton Gamblin (28-11) and #2 Pike Central's Colton O'Neal (34-4).

My question is how often does one get the opportunity to pin 2 Colton's in one day?

The field is Harrison, Reitz, Memorial, Union County, Louisville Trinity, Fern Creek, Southridge, Boonville, Pike Central, and South Spencer.

I would say Union County is the clear front runner.

The powers that be speak out of both sides of their mouths when addressing this question.

They say NO when they want to seed the event and invite teams not based on geography aka 3 teams from each semi-state. Then they say YES, when they want the all-in format and teams with 2 or less athletes aren't counted.

Last year a team would need 5 RETURNING state champions and one other sectional participant to make the top 20 teams in 1A.
They can count anyone they want, that's not an issue.

If they were to say that you need 7 or more wrestlers at sectional to qualify it would shift the cut-off lines for all three classes.
