  1. My issue isn't necessarily with the IHSWCA, but more with the IHSAA. They continue to ruin everything in most sports. They screw up the success factor just because of certain schools and cannot realize that football sectionals should be seeded in some form. Neutral site games halfway between schools for Regional and Semi State contests in other sports as well is hard to grasp.
  2. When will it get to the point like the IHSAA football tournament for this? Selecting teams based on individual results and how well middle school kids have done is not my ideal way to pick teams. Have actual dual meets to determine who gets to compete in state round. How hard is is for the IHSAA to team up with the IHSWCA and do things right? Fix the schedule nonsense and no one gets left out and bids will be earned.
  3. I'd agree national wise it's a problem too. It seems the only thing that reaches out to youth is tv, social media, and video games. Sad to say, but it might be a way to get all 3 styles more popularity in a sports sense. Folkstyle doesn't get much air time compared to softball, hockey, baseball, and lacrosse for college. Only the Olympics will you possibly see Freestyle or Greco. Maybe qualifiers on the B1G network once in a blue moon too. Guess I love too many sports as I say the same for them too.
  4. Just a question and probably an ignorant one, but why isn't the lacrosse and hockey method used for freestyle and greco? For high school, it's "club" teams that basically use or do use the high school. They have their own regulation body like the IHSAA and similar to the IHSWCA. I think giving them to the IHSWCA in that matter would be good. You can start with the big schools like Warren Central, Ben Davis, and etc. They can compete for a State Championship as a team/club and individually. Put one in fall and one in spring. Then use the High School season for qualifiers for the current club teams and individual tournament. Have the High School club/team and non school affiliate club at the same time. Non affiliate on weekends and high school team/club during the week.
  5. Make it into 3 "separate" sports seasons. Each 3-4 months and not overlapping. Make like current clubs but try and use the school name if applicable. Then recruit athletes who play fall/spring sports only bc they want to stay in shape as well as other winter athletes. (Depends on season ) In middle school our kids can play 2 sports in the winter/early spring season. We have a bunch of athletic middle school kids who never wrestle in high school as they choose round ball or swimming and even club hockey. I know some kids would like to wrestle and play basketball/swim/hockey. I'd really love to see 4 sports seasons in youth sports. You could have 4 wrestling seasons for those who want to specialize but still have it for multi sport athletes.
  6. Leave to the IHSAA to screw up a decent for their standards rule with the success factor. They tweaked it the wrong way and will have unintended consequences.
  7. I think PH dominates again and possibly a couple years after.
  8. Thoughts on who may be the Class Team Dual champs, IHSAA team champs, and possible individual contenders. I know, we won't know who will wrestle where yet. However some kids are good enough where it won't matter where they wrestle.
  9. See a lot of argument on how things are handled for "club" and "AAU" wrestling and other sports as well as high school. Frankly, I see the current models of both as outdated. Club/AAU has become a money play in some sports and a click as well in some. Coming from a small school and community, club/AAU was not a priority. We had to have enough kids to have high school teams in other sports. In this aspect, we should have the same sport in high school and club at the same time. High school events Monday to Thursday or Friday. If going to Thursday, then have club/AAU on Friday to Saturday/Sunday if permitted. I'd even stipulate only 2 to 3 high school events a week and maybe club/AAU every other weekend. I would also keep each season 3 months maximum. Athletes limited to 2 sports (4 teams max) a season with restricted minutes/qtrs/innings/etc. Also drop the debate in high school about class and single class events. Yes I'm still advocating both. Some schools can choose to participate in classed events only, some in single class only, and others in both.
  10. I hate how individual results factor into a team dual tournament. Open or change the schedule limitations on dual meets and etc. Have teams wrestle off in dual meets to qualify for TEAM state duals. Everyone knows how much more strategy is put in to shuffling lineups to secure dual meet victories than the individual tournament. Sorry rant over from this least popular poster on here.
  11. Youth and high school sports have it all wrong. College and professional/Olympic sports are to blame. Majority of kids and parents are focusing on one sport all year long regardless if it's wrestling, basketball, baseball, football, soccer, hockey, lacrosse, softball, volleyball, or etc. All in hopes for a free education and/or a payday which maybe a quarter or less will achieve. The 3 styles of wrestling are a good example. Then we wonder why kids get burned out or become injured. There are 12 months in a year and we can have 4 sports seasons in which kids can play different sports and use different muscle groups. Limit sports seasons to 3 months max. This would help smaller schools compete in more sports as well. If you only want to do wrestling all year, then have freestyle in the fall, folkstyle in the winter, greco in the spring, and do combination style of the three in summer. Freshen it up for the kids.
  12. Sounds like it was a big misunderstanding and everything has been worked out. Wasn't just one wrestler but 3 that were affected in 2 different weeks. No matter what decision was made I support the team and staff. Good life lessons for us to become better people. I apologize if I offended anyone.
  13. This case, I know mentioned wrestler won wrestle off with other wrestlers for spot. The wrestler now filling the spot won wrestle off against different wrestlers at another weight. The one filling the spot decided to move up a weight class and did not have a wrestle off before seeding meeting. Both wrestlers competed for the team at conference last week and coach decided it was up to lower weight wrestler to choose.
  14. The weigh in rules and etc need changed. I do need to brush up on them, but there are some crappy situations this time of year. I know of a wrestler who could have weighed in at a lower weight this year to better his individual chances but couldn't because he needed to fill the lineup usually 2 weight classes up from where he could have weighed in. Now he isn't even getting a shot to compete this weekend. I've saw this before and some kids choose not to wrestle again. Cannot blame them when they do not.
  15. This is the kind of crap we need to get out this sport. This kid and many others in the state sacrifice for their teams and then gets the shaft at even competing. Some have wrestled up a class or more bc of various reasons for teams and then it's all taken away for another individual's success. Sorry, just a major pet peeve of mine in this sport.
  16. Mostly talking football in that post but ok. The wrestling programs not as much. The one comparable I had was AJ and Barry getting the programs going. Yes you have the better program and more bodies to do it. Yes the styles are different as well. The post was not about bragging rights but I did like the football game this year. That was the main point as Bellmont didn't schedule AC in football for numerous years and not AC ducking out like many have said. I realize this a wrestling forum but all of those schools are close enough. Jay County, Heritage, Woodlan, and Leo,and Norwell are fairly close or bigger than Bellmont. Plus you can still schedule other events and schools.
  17. It would ensure we would have the AC vs Bellmont game in football annually. Plus you play most of these schools already in numerous sports and would count for more than bragging rights. I was saying before the NE 8 formed.
  18. Make the Ihsaa do it but then again, we can all laugh at the notion they even care. They'll probably make us stop seeding actually. They claim in other sports that random draw is the fairest way to determine a champion.
  19. The ACAC was asleep and should have offered Bellmont and Norwell during that time. Could have had Norwell, Bluffton, SW, SA, AC, Bellmont, Heritage, and Woodlan. If they went to 10, could have went with Jay County and Blackford or Leo and Garrett again. I'd probably would have went Jay and Leo.
  20. It's why they should have an independent person putting in stats as well as the coaches. Have 3rd party reps at duals and tournaments.
  21. Sounds like a computer system can fairly determine this criteria. I personally do not like previous tournament results as most are outdated and have little bearing to the current year. Plus the freshman factor. Have a computer seed and then coaches discuss the validity of the computer seeding.
  22. Looked like Norwell had a small squad but they were quality wrestlers from what I saw.
  23. Well if you're Kermit the Frog then I'd guess you could say that.
  24. Exactly! Don't forget hog wrastlin' either.
  25. All I ever see on the guide for it is Pregame and the actual Pacers game. Then when a state championship weekend for the more popular sports, you see those. Finally the individual tournament made it but I was in person on Saturday night. Drove through that crappy winter storm to get there but it was worth it dodging sliding off cars all the way down I-69.
